The LoC is looking better and better all the time! Love the choice of backpack, and that sculpted armour looks really neat! I'd personally keep the existing plastic guts and add some sculpted detail on top of them -- there's being confident in your abilities and then there's being needlessly ambitious (I admit it's a tough line to walk) ;)

That knight is looking amazing, and sculpting arrows in the less corrupted parts will do a lot for him. Also, the chaos lord looks nice, though I must say it bothers me a bit how in 8th it's usually better to field your HQs barebones (at least for CSM), which removes a lot of the coolness of badass weapons if you want to go fully represented. Still, you made quite a good job, reminds of the Dawn of War chaos marines.

Wow, page 200 has arrived. Man oh man. That's been 4,5 years in the making and it's been such a ride so far. Thanks for all the comments, critique, insights, jokes, banter, tips, links, inspiration and friendship, guys and gals. To every one of you.

Anyway, back to the fun stuf.

I did some more sculpting on the Chaos Lord (and on the Knight, but that's not presentable yet) - I thought it'd be a cool idea to staple his belly to his chest plate, to make sure it doesn't droop completely out of his armour.

What do you think? :biggrin.:

Additionally, I started work on my first Call of Chaos unit, another unit of Plague Marines! This time with meltaguns. I have five left after these guy, with two more on sprue - of which I'm probably making a couple to be wielding Blight Launchers. There's a cool list I have in mind of five units of five PMs with two Blight Launchers each, along with a Chaos Lord with the warlord trait Arch Contaminator and the Fugaris' Helm. He''ll have a 10" bubble in which units reroll 1s to hit and all Plague Weapons reroll all failed wound rolls. Not the most competitive, but fun times!

Anyway, here's pictures.

@ hushrong: Yay, thanks buddy!

@ BCK: Well, I'm very glad for it, so again: thanks!

@ Doghouse: Thanks! High praise from mr Truescale Himself!

@ DuskRaider: In terms of time, maybe not, OR MAYBE YES! They deliver in six weeks or so, so if you have the top ready by then, all you have to do is work on the pose and done!

@ Biohazard: Thanks, mate. Still not sure about the cockpit. It's a lot of work for fairly little payoff. It's the same thing I have with Land Raider and Rhino interiors. Why bother, you know?

@ malcharion: Hey malchy! Thanks for the shout out, buddy! I like the idea of him gargling praises at Nurgle. :biggrin.:

@ Dragonlover: Not to worry. I of course am in full favour of the idea that at least some stereotypes should be avoided. Too much Red will make it look Khornish. But Mörbeck has shown that bone, blue and orange could make a fantastic looking Nurgle army!

@ KrautScientist: I love the fact that you topped off page #200. Thanks for all the support! I kept the belly, but agree with BCKs gif, below your comment!! :tongue.:

@ BCK: oh you...

@ The Traitor: I know right? Barebones HQs are such a loss for individualization of miniatures.

Congrats on page 200, the Lord is looking awesome, that’s a great touch with the stomach staples.

New Plague Marines are looking cool, love the close combat specialist.

As for the cockpit I hear you completely. Its more a personal touch. I feel I have to add it to all my knights since I’ve already done one :D

All my other vehicle doors are glued shut though ;)

Congratulations on page 200! :)

The new squad is looking great. That's a very clever use of the Blightbringer head on that one melta guy, and the sergeant looks like he's having so much fun, swinging his little bell back and forth with wild abandon ;)

@ KrautScientist: I love the fact that you topped off page #200. Thanks for all the support! I kept the belly, but agree with BCKs gif, below your comment!! :tongue.:

*Sigh* Look, maybe it was poorly worded, but all I was trying to say was that, at least in my opinion, it's not only about being awesome at converting or sculpting stuff, it's also about knowing when it makes sense to keep detail that is already there and about how to best incorporate it into what you are doing. With all due respect, there are few people that can match the sculpting work of someone like Maxime Pastourel, and there's no shame in using the detail present on the model, even if you want to change it around a bit. In fact, the solution you've come up with now actually illustrates my point: It looks great, precisely because it combines your own sculpting with the detail that's already there.

On a related note, pinning the rolls of fat to the armour is such a brilliant idea! :)

Another great update on the lord! You have no idea how I want to copy yours for my own Black Legion.

The new plague marines look great and I love the idea of the blight launcher heavy army list. That weapon is seriously a fun one to shoot and have plenty of.

Squad done! Also the first unit done in my Call of Chaos vow - which I f'd up because I have three DG characters to do and no Plague Bearers. Oh well.  Anyway, picture time!

@ sfPanzer: I thank you, kind sir! He's kinda cobbled together (I originally had used the Tallyman body for him, but later realized that bit would be best suited for a character, which led me to use it as a basis for my Necrosius conversion a couple pages back). So I used the Blightspawn's legs which I had left over and hey presto: done!

@ Biohazard: Insane no? 200 pages, 4.5 years of posting here. I think maybe I'll do a cockpit later, maybe even after I painted the Knight. I did an order of a lot of sitting resin dudes, which I can use as princeps... Damn. Your comment has gotten my brain racing - maybe I'll do a completely corrupted Knight cockpit where everything inside has turned to daemonic fleshmetal and the 'pilot' of the daemon-engine is this soul-infested corpse writhing among cables hooked into the fleshmetal. Groovy...

@ KrautScientist: Thanks! Page 200! It's insane! I know you're having a lot of fun with the Velsen Sector, but I know you want to bring that Khorne's Eternal Hunt behemoth of yours up to its bicentennial page, and I already sent you a PM, offering you a Cup of Blood Red to remove your main drawback and make that a reality. But you no respondy. :( Also, thanks on the positivity on the pinned flesh, and yes, I agree I should build my skills by pushing them, not overstepping my (current) bounds. :tu: :)

@ rednekkboss: Hahaha maybe change the nurglings into something else? Or no?

@ hushrong: Go for it - I love to be copied. But learn from the poolish studio's mistake and please mention me perhaps maybe? ;) The Blight Launcher heavy list came from TableTopTactics. Fun channel.  :tu:

My jaw just popped out of its socket! You painted that in TWO DAYS! I am envious at your skills! Building/converting is no problem for me but it takes me months just to get psyched to paint something haha. And you can do it all at the snap of a finger, that's awesome. You did a stellar job too! Your plague marines are looking nice and gritty!

And no worries. I always cite my research when I take inspiration from someone else as it seems right. Plus, college ground that habit into me with all those papers I had to type. I am getting ready to work on my second BL Berzerker squad and I am slowly thinking the idea of a great cleaver toting plague marine hanging around them will be quite alright.

Cheers guys.

On the topic of Knight interiors - I'm not doing it on this one. It's just too much work right now: I'm in the middle of a work crisis, my parents and my cat is sick, and I and the SO have just bought our dream house in Amsterdam - and the housing market is insane these days. The hobby is to relax, and thinking about how I'm doing the interior (combined with the fact that the canopy is resin and not plastic - which structurally makes a ton of difference in terms of glue-bonds) is stressing me out and it's killing my vibe. So alas, this Knight won't get an interior right now... That doesn't mean it won't ever get one, and certainly the next Knight will get one - when I get around to building that guy. Which may take a month, or three years (I've been sitting on those Chaos Knight parts since late 2015, so...). Not to worry though: I fully plan on doing the interiors of the three Armigers I have planned.

In any case, here's how far I am with the Knight at the moment. Trim sculpting is pretty much done, as are the trophies. I'm still contemplating what to do with the battle cannon barrel, but that'll be ok, I'm sure. I have some ideas rummaging around in my skull.

Thanks for looking. Ideas and feedback and critiques are all most welcome. The ideas most of all, of course. Like's are fine, but don't realy do it for me. But I already wrote that a ton of times. ;)

Anyway, cheers!

@ hushrong: haha it makes me giggle seeing you still surprised at my speed: youé been following this thread for years now, and it still surprises you? ;)\]

@ Brother Callidan: Yeah sure. I made a list of things that speed up painting about 1.5 years ago. You can find it here. :tu:

@ Biohazard: I'll go watch that movie! Thanks for the tip!

@ Vairocanum: Well, here's the Knight! I'm doing another five-man squad outside of the CoC (I didn't think about my vow and vowed all kinds of units I had planned a bit later and not the miniatures I have to do now) just because I most enjoy infantry at the moment. ;)

He looks fantastic, the putty work you’ve added will fit seamlessly with the FW details once you add paint. I especially love the rocket pod. :tu:

I can totally understand your reasons for not building a cockpit for it at the moment. The model certainly does not suffer for the lack of that detail anyway. Congrats on the house buy and hopefully everyone else shakes off the Nurgles rot soon.

Oh wow. First off, that knight is looking spectacular buddy. The greenstuff is very tastefully done. Whenever I see beauties like this, I have to keep telling myself “one of these years I’ll get one”

But that “generic” lord (not that there’s anything generic about him). Man, that blew my mind when I saw it! I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a Nurgle marine with a better pose than that. Perfect use of the head, and I love the belly being nailed together hahaha. Awesome work!!!

Edit: almost forgot. Congrats on you and your lil lady getting the house! That’s terrific news brother. And hopefully your parents and furry model destroyer get better

Damn man. This genuinely made me smile.

Great work with the GS, it looks perfect along with the FW parts (speaking of which, how come almost noone uses those? they're cool as hell). Lovely. And the exhausts came out great! There seems to be a hair stuck the to left one though:)

And don't fret about the cockpit, I see it more as a bonus. They're nice and all but not necessary. I'm guessing this one would mostly be full of pus and rot anyways haha

And congrats on page 200! and the house!

I'm not as understanding as the other guys, of course: Your reasoning makes perfect sense, and yet, it's still a shame about the cockpit :(

That being said, so sorry to hear about your stressful situation at the moment -- keeping my fingers crossed for you, buddy! :)

On a more productive note, the Knight assembly looks really good. I really, really think you should do something a little more interesting with the faceplate, though, as that one element would truly make the model look more original and give it its own personality (vs Forgeworld's phoned-in generic skull-chaos look). Just my two cents, though.

Cheers, guys. I woke up in the middle of the Knight - my sister warned me that this was going to happen the night after you spent several tons of money on your first real house (my current appartement is just that: an apartment). In any case: I'n on the couch in the dark now, looking for some distractions. And of course I went to B&C for some inspiration.

I went where I should have gone all along - to the thread of master Imperial Knight interior+pilot builder KrautScientist and found his seminal work on that very topic. Suddenly, an interior doesn't seem quite so daunting anymore. This might need some further thought.

Also, yesterday between phone calls, I finished building the following (and for the foreseeable future last) Plague Marine Squad:

Squad Vulgarus

gGh5CoA.jpg

DB9Tzu0.jpg

Plague Sergeant Vulgarus

tAqeclm.jpg

Vexilarius Wurat

SFUvWSJ.jpg

Melee Specialist Pusit

uC0ZIFb.jpg

Weapon Specialist Scuhub

5j8EAZM.jpg

Weapon Specialist Korst

TR0jFtZ.jpg

As you can see, I used two of the Plague Brethren marines for the Blight Launcher weapon specialists. Originally they had just their standard kit, but now that GW has screwed us over twice with these (once for just flipping the CADs of the DI Plague Marines 180 degrees, and a second time for releasing a set previously marketed as limited edition). The Sergeant Vulgarus and Specialist Korst are each other's mirror - I'll gladly post some comparison pictures. Their Blight Launchers are just BoP Heavy Bolters with amniotic sacs and tuping sculpted on top of them. Easy, but effective.

Anyway, I hope you like them and welcome your C&C. Thanks for looking! Back to bed.

Cheers

@ Biohazard: Thanks, yes, the rocket pod was a happy accident - the support strut broke off when I dropped it, and the frist sculpting was done to mask that break. ;) My ma and pa are going to be ok, and so is the cat - unfortunately the latter has now gotten into the habit of peeing on my sofa, which I read on the interwebs is very hard to unlearn... Ugh

@ Greenz_: Go and get one for sure, dude! They're tons of fun to do! About the cat: he hasn't ever estroyed a miniature. I've cought him starting to chew on a Maulerfiend's face once, and I scared him away. But he has absolutely no interest in any of my miniatures, except for leaving hairs on my WIPs, which KrautScientist will then mockingly point out once they're finished ;)

@ DuskRaider: Aww! I hate you too buddy! About the colour scheme, I'm thinking Dryad Bark washed and drybrushed with a mix of that and maybe Steel Legion Drab, alternated by lines of your Death Guard ivory recipe. Red arrowed hazard striped with the ivory here and there. How's that sound?

@ ElDuderino: Yeah I don;t get why not more people use the Chaos Knight parts - they are cool as hell. I guess it's because there's only one seet and people fear they're being too generic? Thanks on the support re: the cockpit and the congratulatory words on page 200!

@ malcharion: Thanks, malchy!  :)

@ KrautScientist: well you seem to have somewhat inspired me yet again - not with those disappointed words, but with that excellent thread of yours! I ad no idea the cockit didn't fill the entire inner space of the body, but only the top half! About the faceplate, I was thinking of sculpting a lower jaw to it, using a set of front teeth pressmolded frmo the upper jaw, and connecting them in a jaw-like construction similar to the mourngul-DP I did last month. How's that sound?

I still can't get over that green stuff trim... it's too perfect. I tried doing similar but I just couldn't figure it out and the putty was sticking to my tools.

Loving the new Plague Marines. Really liked the prior ones as well, I forgot to comment on them.

As far as the Knight scheme, it sounds like it'll work nicely. I love red hazard stripes, I thoroughly enjoyed doing them on my Warhound and the contrast works well. I'd just make sure the red is bordered by the white since it may blend into the brown a bit.

Sorry to hear about what is happening in real life. I hope te family & cat get better and the work crisis eases off, so that you can relax more

As for the cockpit, thing is, unless you plan on it being a display piece, when will people ever see in there?

So is all the extra work going to be worth it, when it is an unseen  detail?

Also saw this at KF studio and thought it might make a great for a chaos knight if you decided to give this one a twin :smile.:
