New guys are looking killer augg!!!

Imagine it's in here somewhere but can you share your metas for the fan blades on the jump packs

I'd be happy to help but I don;t understand what you mean. Can you elaborate?

Lmao... I can't understand that either... voice to text translates some interesting mumbo jumbo.

So I'm wondering about the metals on the jump packs fan blades... is it boltgun metal with silver carefully applied to the leading edges with a black/metal wash kind of thing or is there another magic at play because the paint job is very clean and tidy

Alfric Brontis.

Cool! Yoyu'll be a battle brother in XII Devastator Squad

I like to add a bit to the fluff of these guys, and i think you should add

Markon Talleos as your flamer specialist, quiet before battle but volatile as fire once battle starts :smile.:

Nice! Awesome name, and I love that you added some fluff / which will be integrated. Thanks!

Looking good! You are hitting it out of the park with these!

And I am honored that I got to name another one of you Imperial fists.

You´re most welcome! And yeah, when I have a goal (i.e. a list that I need to have finished), I get a lot more motivation. :smile.:

As always they look great, the eviscerator-wielding sergeant pose is awesome, just ready to cut someone by half!

Thanks, buddy! I agree that eviscerator guy looks dynamically brutal - or was it brutally dynamic?

LoL OK so the recipe for all the metal of my Imperial Fists is the same: Because I stopped buying GW Leadbelcher, I use a 1:1 mix of VMA Gun Metal (VMA GunMetal is essentially a 2:1 mix of GW Leadbecher and GW Abaddon Black to darken it) and AP Plate Mail Metal (which is essentially GW Ironbreaker  - used to lighten the Gun Metal. So my VMA/AP-mix is basically GW Leadbelcher) applied with a #3 brush, with a sloppy GW Nuln Oil Gloss wash. It really couldn't be simpler. Oh, when the whole model is finished and transferred and weathered (a little sponging with Rhinox Hide here and there) I spray the whole thing with a 1:1 mix of Satin and Gloss varnish. But really it's that simple. The trick is really in the gloss washes GW produces - it has a FAR better effect on metals than the dull non-gloss variants, probably because of the increased surface tension of the paint.

DOUBLE POST, BOOM!

Sorry for that, but I´ve just finished the last five assault marines of my tournament list.

XIV Assault Squad

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20170308_003_zpsbowbnzn2.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20170308_002_zpsclwvuxii.jpg

Vexillarius - Scaffir "Iron Hand" Smidte - Scion of Ferrus

Vexillarius Smidte has been Sergeant Vor's second-in-command for decades. His style of command is cold and ruthless, and XIV Squad´s brothers originally dubbed him ´the Iron Fist´ to reflect his personality. As fate would have it, Brother Smidte lost his left hand during a joint operation with the Iron Hands chapter against the hated Emperor´s Children traitors. He received a temporary battlefield bionic from an Iron Hands apothecary, which he kept throughout the campaign to honour the Apothecary. Soon after, it was replaced with a more sophisticated bionic that accepts his armour without modifications, but by then his brothers had already changed his callsign to ´Iron Hand´.

Battle Brother - Serje Pantimion - Black_out

A Ferocious warrior, brother Pantimion has been known to turn his body into a dive to increase his speed before landing in trenches and other fortified positions, twisting himself to land legs-first at the last second so as to land into the defenders with devastating force. He relishes the terror it sows amongst his enemies. This tactic is straining his armour's capabilities to the limit, however, and brother Panimion has been reprimanded several times by the techmarines of the armoury for his -in their eyes- disrespectful attitudetowards his amour. They have started to replace his damaged servos and armour with those of sturdier marks in order to slow him down and make his armour last longer.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20170308_004_zpslzxzedxn.jpg

Weapon Specialist (Flamer) - Markon Talleos - thamier

Quiet before battle, but as volatile as the gusts of fire of his weapon during engagements, Talleos hails from the same Pyromaniac gang as Brother Westrat from VII Squad. Where the young brother has only been recently inducted, brother Talleos is a veteran of dozens upon dozens of battles.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20170308_016_zpsofqveeao.jpg

Battle Brother - Tolbe "the Jovian" Mendell - jannisary

Brother Mendell was a junior soldier-musician in his PDF, who was laureled for an impromptu rescue operation, which saved dozens of his comrades. His ceremony was witnessed by an Imperial Fists chaplain, who took him to be inducted into the Imperial Fists chapter. He has requested and received permission to display his PDF's laurel honour on his helmet, and continues to be a source of morale amongst his brothers. He is called 'the Jovian' for his thunderous battlecry.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20170308_013_zpsdiohxi4c.jpg

Battle Brother - Jorug Stael - hushrong

A former breacher marine, brother Stael was transferred to XIV Assault Squad after several ship-boarding engagements that made it clear he was more suited for the fast-moving assaults of jump pack engagements than the slow-paced shield wall tactics of breachers. He has kept his helmet as a sign of respect to his brother breachers, and often visits his former squad-mates in their barracks aboard the Phallanx. Still, Brother Stael has been welcomed by his new brothers of XIV squad.

There, finished with the assault squad. As irony would have it, the doubles tournament on the 26th - for which I painted these assault squads -  was cancelled. :sad.: I can still use them for the singles tournay on the 25th at my local GW, but I was looking forward to using them in sync with my buddy Ruben's magic dsruption/assault Harlequins in the doubles tournament.... Oh well. In any case, I loved painting and building them, and they had been a project I have had in the back of my head for the last year. So I am glad to have finally finiashed them!

I hope you like them to, and am looking forward to your C&C!

Onwards to the second Grav-devastator squad!

Oh, and here's an afterthought to those who have provided fluff for 'their' marines:

Scion of Ferrus, I tried tyo incorporate the -very detailed- fluff you wrote as best I could, and feel like I kept true to the essence of it. I hope you like it!

@ jannisary, I assumed your name is a reference to Harry Mendell the early electronic musician who worked with Bon Jovi, so I worked that into his fluff.

Nice!

So, how do you prevent from doubling-up the stories of the dudes?

I don't, I guess? Not sure, to my knowledge I have never made any duplicates. What I do is I try to come up with a central theme or mood for the squad (like how VII Assault Squad is very devout due to both officers being zealous fanatics, and XIV Assault Squad is more practical through their officers' stoic leadership) and combine that with the individual look and feel of the miniatures - plus if frater have given fluff for the miniature along with their name, I incorporate that. Then I just go with whatever the mokeys that run my brain concoct. Sometimes I remember fluff from another mini, and I look it up to combine it. Like how Markon Talleus from XIV squad is from the same Pyromaniac gang as Garic Westrat from VII squad? I just realized that while writing his character. I do want to make everything as interesting as possible, which is why the fluff gets longer and longer the more mini´s the collection entails, and also it starts to deviate a little from canon codex astartes fluff - which I rationalize through the army being 32K themed (the time of the The Beast Arises books) and the codex hasn't completely subverted Legion culture. The most recent XI Devastator Squad is a good example of that.

@ Black_out: glad you like it, buddy!

Great squad, a shame that your tournament was cancelled, taking such a cool army to the board must be awesome! Also, from what parts is your vexila made of? I recognise the top from the BaC box, but from where is the lower part?

I forgot to post the entire squad picture:

Cheers!

This assault squad is top notch.... the stances and painting are awesome ...keep up the good work!

Thanks buddy! I'll try to keep it up with the devastators.

Oh well, I'm sure they'll reschedule sometime in the near future. The lower half is from the Custodes banner from the Burning of Prospero kit. :smile.:

Loving those assault Marines, buddy! Special mentions must go to the banner bearer, as I just adore that kitbashed banner -- I think I'll have to steal that design (or make something very much like it) for my first 30k World Eaters squad, if you don't mind ;)

Also, you are a frickin' painting machine, dude! o_O

Great work as always though a shame about the tournament, however I've got some names and a little fluff for you inspired by one of my own non 40k projects.

Veteran Seargent Beranhurd Burg-Gumarik and Weapon specialist Laslou Morsenk (Centurians)

Born to the Esenlik Tribe they were both selected by the chaplaincy during a long and bitter war with a rival tribe.

Beranhurd is a proven tactical leader and is being watched for further promotion where as it is often joked that Laslou would make fine crimson fist due to a stoic refusal to accept defeat especially when under siege.

A third name that relates to my friends contribution to the hobby is Erkane Romalik as a rival for Beranhurd.

Selected alongside the two Esanlish Arkin hails from the rival tribe as an honourable soul amongst the barbaric savages and killers that made up his tribe.

Possibly even Beranhurd’s superior when it comes to tactical acumen the rivalry between the two drives both to greater heights and has garnered a mutual respect between the two former enemies.

Thanks, guys!

Here's the first five devastator WIP pictures. Incidentaly, the vexilarius and the grav cannon specialists of this squad still need a name...

Veteran Tech-sergeant - Sigfrid Erlach - TheReaper17

This guys will get the auspex of borther Brontis, below. Also, I'm pretty sure I'm going to make a custom Signum for him.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20170302_020_zps6ws7xddj.jpg

Vexillarius -

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20170302_038_zpsnn8izfqp.jpg

Heavy Weapon Specialist (Grav Cannon) -

Heavy Weapon Specialist (Grav Cannon) -

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20170302_023_zpsinelo2tc.jpg

Battle Brother -Alfric Brontis - vharing

THis guy will get sergeant Erlach's left arm, with the knife.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20170302_044_zpsask7nrmj.jpg

Hope you like! Oh - I might change the left pauldron of the vexilla to a MkIII pauldron, and one of the devastators' heads for a FW Iron Hands augment MkIII helmet.

Comments, feedback, and especially name suggestions are most welcome.

@ KrautScientist: thanks, buddy! Glad you like the kitbashed standard - I must admit it was a lucky coincidence that the two bits fit together so well (or was it, GW?) , and I'd be honoured if you steal the idea for your 30K World Eater force. Yeah, you read that right, force. There's no brakes on the Heresy train. Choo choo.

@ Viarocanum: Cheers, mate. I'm happy you like them and recognize the movement. It's the thing I was quite invested in to get right

@ Mechanist: You cheecky bastard, claiming and naming an entire Centurion squad for yourself. :p I´m kidding, of course. Thanks buddy! I really like the idea behind the atmosphere in the squad - one of former rivalry, turned into brotherhood through mutual experience. Kind of like the reverse of what First Claw went through, don´t you think?  they're definitely in!  - on one condition - that you name one of the above guys too :biggrin.:

Ha, that is so stupid of you painting them up so very well. Now you will be said when you have to remove any models.

See if you painted like us regular painters you wouldn't feel too bad.

(please see this as a joke everyone)

Well I'm glad you like the names and happy to supply one more inspired by my little project and Germanised a little.

Vexillarius Jehan Shtapol

and because I came up with it and based on the project Franko Hirschkuh a Communications expert born under a fortuitous comet with a great respect for the many cultures of Man.

The Devastators are looking great as well. That sergeant is such a wonderful conversion, buddy!

Seeing how you are planning a custom signum anyeay, might I suggest a cable running from his (eventual) auspex to his backpack or something similar? I think it would underline the fact that his auspex feeds into the rest of his equipment in a more direct way, as would befit his already much more hi-tech look.

(...)and because I came up with it and based on the project Franko Hirschkuh a Communications expert born under a fortuitous comet with a great respect for the many cultures of Man.

There I was, just about ready to chew you out for that frankly ridiculous (at least to a German) sounding last name, but then I googled it, just to be on the safe side, and now I feel humbled because I learned something and can actually appreciate the punchline. Well played, man, well played! ;)

Now I'm intrigued to know if it's the actual reference or something different yet equally relevant.

I'll put my reply in spoilers, so as not to derail the thread and in order to to enable others to discover it for themselves -- if there's anything to discover in the first place, that is

Google pointed to German Wikipedia article on francocantabrian cave art here. With some of the depictions of animals found among those murals being of female deer -- "Hirschkuh" in German. Now please tell me it wasn't just one huge coincidence...
