Fantastic work on the Fire Raptor!!!
All the best for the new year, dude! Looking forward to seeing what you get up to in 2018

That fire raptor looks amazing and the land raider is off to a good start. Happy New Year!
Sorry to hear about the phone! However the Fire raptor look amazing. You've convinced me about the airbrush. Ever think about putting together a youtube tutorial for your stuff? Bet you'd get a ton of subs!

The Raptor is amazing, but did I mention that the skin light covers on the Raider are inspired?
Land Raider DONE!
Whoop whoop! This one, it being a classic model, was a ton of fun to paint. I particularly like the new way of mounting helmets, which I discovered during the building of the Fire Raptor. I imagine the Night Lords to skewer the helmets and skulls on above the ramp, when they enter the vehicle after a long night of raiding.
Here's the pictures!
Crap, I realize now that I still need to do some smoke and soot around the exhausts!
So it still needs a little work, I realize! Please note that the Havoc Launchers, Search Light, and the Smoke Launcher are all magnetized to the hull, and that the Havoc Launcher can swivel vertically - so their positions are neither fixed nor in perfect order in these pics. I guess I was a bit too enthusiastic when taking these pictures, and I'll try to make some better once when I get home later today, includign some detail shots of the combimelta, which I converted from the standard SM vehicle kit and some meltaparts.
Anyway, this sees the final miniature of a three-vehicle commission I got from the client that bought a large amount of my Night Lords, in late November. He's so pleased with the result that he commissioned me to do another two - a Spartan and a Storm Eagle! That'll be a ton of fun.
But first, I will do another commission I got from the guy who bought most of the other half of my Night Lords - which will also be a Spartan - so two Spartans coming up in the next couple of weeks!
@ ChazSexington: Haha I guess they're all dead - with what their skin hanging from these vehicles and all....?!
@ Sagentus: You painted less than three vehicles in 2016? I cannot believe that! But I do hope you'll get more work done in 2018 for sure. I love to see what you come up with too. Re: your point about washes: it really makes the process SO much faster!
@ Kizzdougs: Cheers, buddy! All the best to you, too! I plan on doing a couple more Night Lords vehicles and then starting my Death Guard project.
@ guardian31: Happy New Year to you too! And thanks for your continued support of this thread - it's followers like you that keep it (and me) going!
@ Eldrick Shadwoblade: Hey mate! Long time no see here. Welcome back and happy new year to you I'm not doing a youtube tutorial sadly - I suck at filming and I hate my voice - but if you're ever in Amsterdam be sure to contact e and I'll be happy to show you some tricks
@ Scribe: You did, just now, and thanks! I really liked the idea too, so I went for it a second time!

Holy crap...I don't look into this thread for half a week and you finish a Raptor and a Landraider. o_O
Ahhhhhhh love it!
Do havoc launchers come standard with all Chaos vehicles such as Land Raiders and Rhinos?
Those foot prints on the ramp door just made me grin -- It's the little details that count!
@ sfPanzer: Yup, I'm back and on a roll now.
@ Ranker: Glad you like her, buddy! No, Havoc Launchers do not come standard, nor do Combimelta's. That's why on both Land Raiders, the Havoc Launchers are magnetized, and the copulas with the combimelta will be detachable and replacable with included weapon-less copulas.
That LR looks incredible!
In 2017 i only painted 10 bez, 2 termies, drake, helbrute and 1 champ. Thats pretty equal to your 3 large vehicles in 3 weeks lol. Glad to hear the new painting method workes out so well. I find it also allows you to make mistakes on normal figures as the wash usually hides them

Cheers, Sagentus! I don't agree at all that you painted less. A space marine vehicle is essentially a large area with some detail. The large area can be done with an airbrush in literally minutes. It takes be about half an hour to paint all the blue on each vehicle. It's the details that take by far the most work - in fact the drying of washes is what -relatively- takes the most time! Compared to that, painting infantry is a chore - and so is the heldrake! But anyway, we can talk about this for hours. So.....
Anyway, I promised some pictures of finished miniatures. So here goes, including some features.
First off, is the Mars Pattern Land Raider's finished exhausts:
Next is a picture you guys have already seen, but now with the Search Light, Havoc Launcher, and the Smoke Launchers pointing a reasonable direction, proving that magnetization really is a bliss.
Net up are two pictures of the top. The first shows the Havoc Launcher and the copula with the combi melta weapon:
The second shows the same tank but with an altered copula (which is easy to replace) and sans Havoc Launcher. Together they show the versatility of the kit with the magnets and different copulas.
I did the same thing with the MkIIb Land Raider, by the way
Lastly, here's the completely finished Fire Raptor! Now with rust streaks and missing parts replaced!
What was missing in the previous images was the two upper energy cables - FW sent me replacement of the miscasts that were included with the kit. I received them today and painted them up immediately!
Here's a detail shot of the rust streaks I did.
So that's it! Three vehicles done in as many weeks!
Now, it's waiting for FW to sent me the replacement tracks of the first Spartan so I can start o n that thing, plus the other Spartan and the Storm Eagle! Wooooooo
Thanks for looking!
I was wondering, for a bit of variation... The small squares of flesh that you have done... What if they were not flesh, but cards from the Imperial Tarot. Nailed to the corpses or hull to show how the Night Lords are fighting against the destiny that the Night Haunter believed awaited his sons, through his reading of the cards..
Maybe they specialise in the hunting of astropaths and navigators who use such devices to show that not all things can be foreseen...
Anyway, wicked cool models, Ranker is a lucky fella
The LR's and Fire Raptor look awesome!
What colours do you use for the flayed skin?
About Dantay XV's tarot card suggestion: I only just have come to realize that that's what the squares are meant to be on the FW Night Lords kits! I have always assumed them to be just squares cut from the skin. I really like the Tarot card idea - but have no idea how to make them look like tarot cards - they're super tiny so I would have no idea how to represent cards like 'death', 'castle', 'mother', and others. If someone (Dantay VI?) has an idea about those, let me know!
@ Dantay VI: Thanks for the suggestion, buddy!
@ BubblesMcGub: For the skin I use the following colour combo: Base with a 1:1 mix of GW Bugman's Glow and GW Cadian Fleshtone, which I then highlight with a 1:1 mix of GW Kislev Flesh and GW Flayed One Flesh. I then drown the stuff in a 1:3:3 mix of GW Rhinox Hide, GW Blood For The Blood God, and water.
They rose from the dead to slay the living:
The Harvesters of Souls, the II Legion and their various allies.
Death could be a scythe, tower a tower, I have no idea about the other tarot cards as I have never sen them before, I just remeber hearing about the Emperors tarot and how Curze had an old yellowed deck that he would go through.... In one of the audio stories (Lightning tower) Malcador hasd the deck I think and Dorn is made uncomfortable by it and he sees the lightning tower card, worries about its meaning. In te other Kurze keeps dealing the cards and they keep telling him the same thing, right before he nukes Nostramo.
Could do playing cards like Ace of Spades??
Thing is the cards do not have to be that accurate if they ar partially covered by arterial spray eh? Here is the list of cards
Btw, hows the name now? No more irritating underscore

One of these days I'll need to get an air brush. That new land raider looks great, love the trophies. As for the tarot cards, you wouldn't necessarily need to get super detailed, paint the card a yellowed white with a different background for each card like a blue or red or some such and just a silhouette of what the card represents maybe? I think that might be a good way to do it.
Love the group shot. They just look a happily evil family together.
With respect to the tarot cards, that's a great idea.
@ The Traitor: Ooooh I'm glad to hear you also have come to the dark side and will start what Forté refers to as 'fake painting'.
@ Dantay VI: Thank you for those cool links - I will definitely give that a go on future projects. Also, HURRAY for no mre underscores!
@ Bjorn Firewalker: Yeah I did, it's fairly easy. I just cut off the magazine, stuck on a piece of 1mm plasticard cut to fit a 'melta part', and replaced the bolter muzzle with a melta muzzle.
@ Sagentus: Hurray! Another one bites the dust (or draws his wallet) and shifts over to efficient painting!
@ guardian31: You should. I can feel your envy. Embrace it. Let it fuel your desire to paint. Your card painting ideas are pretty convincing. I'll try that.
@ Ranker: Again, glad you approve of the builds and paints I'll try the tarot card suggestion on the Spartan and the Storm Eagle for sure. Maybe even put some in the cockpit of the eagle.
Can't wait to see those tarot cards. An air brush is on the list of things to get once I have a house and not a small apartment. Need somewhere to store the thing after all.
One more point about flesh trophies on the Fire Raptor. I and many other suspected such a trophy would completely burn away during re-entry. But if you google images on "vladimir komarov", the first pic you will see is of this poor test pilot's body after he fell from space. Probably not at terminal velocity either, as his craft would have gone a lot faster than that during re-entry.
@ guardian31: I operated an airbrush when I was still living in a 37m2 studio - no excuses!
The first Spartan begins!
It's built with a lot of pinning and two-component epoxy glue, and of course fully magnetized. Now to Nightlordify it with trophies (my client bought the Secret Weapon Sack 'o Corpses) and helmets.
Great fun working on this!
BOOM TRIPLE POST! For which I apologize - but hey: if you comment, I don't have to monologue.
On a less tongue-in-cheek note: I finished the build of the first Spartan. Not bad to build this thing from scratch in about five hours, if I may say so myself.
I love that Secret Weapon Sack 'o Corpses kit. A shame it is so expensive!!
I think the assault ramp might be warped a bit, otherwise very nice ornaments.
