++ AUGUSTUS b'RAASS ++ pre-heresy BRASS SCORPION p.247

Recommended Posts

I'm so glad you picked up on my suggestion -- the tabard looks great now! Great job on the Lord of Contagion as well, although I have to say am I not quite sold on the axe head yet -- I've said before how I think your corroded metal look isn't quite there yet, and I think you should also pick out some of the detail (the power generator, the small skull on it, the cable running into it) in different colours, in order to break up the massive silver shape of the axe head a bit.

I'm also not quite sure about the smoke, although I have to admit I don't have any perfect solution for that either -- I do remember that undercoating it white, then washing it with Coelia Greenshade seems to produce a pretty cool effect, although it would introduce a whole new colour into your colour scheme, which could be a problem.

In any case, make no mistake: In spite of my niggling, those are some stunning paintjobs! :)

New update is superb! And thanks for the recipe! Going to have to save that for use later.

The termie lord looks great and will be awesome sorrounded by his underlings. I have to say the white/grey to black smoke is fabulously done. It’s super eye catching and I wish I could have painted my Sons of Malice like that!

Daemon Prince time.

I started this guy almost a year ago... vowed him for my own Augustus Arena event against Brother Chaplain Kage's Bloodthirster conversion. I failed and let BCK down. Then I repeated the same thing when I vowed it for Grotsmasha's conversion challenge - warlord edition.

But now, finally, he's finished! Hurray!

Picture time!

I hope you like him! If there is anything I should still add, please let me know soon - you know me, when something's pretty much done, I need paint on it, and the paint train waits for no-one.

So if you have any requests/additions/ideas/feedback, please let me know asap!

I already started adding some micro beads for pustules and buboes. So no need for those :)

In addition, I just added a Mourngul, wich I will sculpt a new pelvis for to add some front legs of the forgefiend kit, as well as some BT metal wings....  Finally, tomorrow will see me finally posting the five Plague Marines with the giant cleavers. :)

Cheers!

@ DuskRaider: Swedish is a difficult language, buddy. Not as difficult as Japanese, but still ;)

@ KrautScientist: will do on the axe blade, and I also took your advice on the engines and stuff. The smoke... you're right. It doesn't sit well, so I've decided to do them in the same colour as the plasma glow on the plasme guns.

@ Wilks_ Thanks, buddy! It's awesome that you're joining the group to go to the Manchester tourny!

@ hushrong: Well, I'm gonna change the smoke soon!

Wheee, so happy to see this guy again! And the prospect of actually seeing him painted soon makes me all giddy ;)

So, before you explode into action, a couple of minor suggestions:

  • It seems like the brazier needs some cleanup work, especially where the two halves go together, on the chain etc. Nothing major, just some gap filling (just adding some more glue to blend the seams would probably be good enough) and mold line removal.
  • I think you should definitely add just a few of those microbeads to that glorious, distended neck of his -- that way, you have something that can make the area even more disgusting when painted (*wink* buboes *wink*) ;)
  • I made the same comment on another Nurglite Daemon Prince today, but it's just as viable here: Have you thought about adding a third/additional eye to the forehead of his helmet? The eye holes already hint at insectile compound eyes, and maybe a third, quasi-cyclopean eye on the forehead might be cool.

Beyond those minor tweaks, it looks like you're good to go! :)

Someone is in for a very short and bad day. Splat in the name of grandpa nurgle that dude is brilliant so much movement and energy.

The LOC is looking sweet and I'm looking forward to the next pictures with Kraut's advice since it currently looks like a different person painted the Axe head to the rest of him as it's very dry brushy when you've got alot of smoothness and depth going on in the rest of the scheme.

The other fellow really works and the fading on the tabard really finishes him nicely.

Thanks for the comments and keen eyes, guys!

I fixed his censer and added the pustules. I won't be doing a third eye, because I don't think it 'fits' him - besides, he already has three eye slits for each eye in his helmet! :D

In the meantime, let me introduce you to Squad V Graltun of my Death Guard Plague Company:

@ KrautScientist: Indeed! Thank, buddy! Your sharp eye drew me towards the censer, which I fixed. Thanks!

@ hushrong: Hurray! Looking forward to painting him, too!

@ Mechanist: LoC will need some extra work - I'm still not satisfied with the smoke effect, and I think I'll settle for a Yellow tih Coelha Greenshade wash and some moot green as a base.

The daemon prince is phenomenal, the pose and angling of the flail are matched just right for the sense of a bullish charge or crushing blow, especially when combined with his bulk. The choice of head was well done too, it screams blind aggression, which we don't often see with Nurgle, but nevertheless must be present in the daemons of chaos.

You’ve done really well to get a completely different pose out of that daemon Prince. Such a dynamic pose at that. His left arm really matches up with his new pose. The propellor jump pack is a great Nurgle alternative for wings and goes well with your drones.

Your Deathguard squad looks great. The icon as shield makes so much more sense in the unforgiving 40k setting. It’s one of those ideas that you know is great because it seems simple and obvious only in hindsight.

Loving the pairing of the deep sea diver helmet with the tentacle.

Great stuff! I just need to check out the other 178 pages now!

The Plague Marine squad is looking awesome, buddy! And the way you've painted the axe on Brother Guggen is exactly what I would love to see you do with the axe on the LoC!

Seconded.

That new squad look great and the extra colours on the axe make it look finished look forward to seeing the LoC finished.

Cheers, guys! I finally, finally finished the Lord of Corruption. In the end, I went for green - both because it looks suitable corrupted, and also because it matches my colour scheme the best - the glow on the plasma guns use the same colour, so I don't have to introduce yet another colour to the army.

I also did some more work on the axe head - both in dulling down the metal, adding some rust, and getting some more detail on the Axe's engine part.

What do you think?

Mind you, I'm calling this guy finished: As the rules for an LoC are crap compared to other HQ choices, I just painted this guy for the ETL and because I like the miniature. I need to prioritize my painting time now that I have a busier life, and there's a tournament coming, for which I need specific miniatures. The LoC is not part of them, so he'll have to do with the colours he has. ;)

In addition, I started painting the Daemon Prince!

PfqMqhh.jpg

I already finished his base! :D

Cheers!:)

@ KrautScientist: well then I'm confident the final LoC will get your official TEH Seal of Approval! ;)

@ Pearson73: Cheers, that's a great point you're making - I don't think Nurgle Daemons are all frolicking around, giggling and going all carnival on us - they're daemons, after all. They're supposed to represent the god of entropy and decay.  There's nothing more destructive than entropy, so why not reflect that in their miniatures?

@ Krakendoomcool: First off, welcome to my thread! Second, you have a cool Frater name! :D Have fun browsing the 178 pages of this thread and if you have any questions, please let me know - I answer them all :)

@ Mechanist: Cheers! I hope the LoC meets your standards :tu: ;)

Hey Aug ! I like the way you use the green for the lords of corruption, he really stand out this way and if you follow the same scheme with the DP it will be outstanding !

I was waiting for Vulgon and Guggen and I'm not disponted !

If I may, the sol thing that bother me on those death guard models is the metalics. Do you drybrush theme or use the sponge technics maybe ? Because you got a lot of shiny dot over totaly black parts like hole etc and it look weird to me.

You could either

1) put the shade after the last hightlight

Or

2) put the last highlights only at key location on the blade (on the hedge) or drybruching it avoiding the holes.

Or

3) use more corosive effects with dumbull Brown (witch would look good with your red fly theme going around) and orange in the hole especially to ovoid them to be shiny.

Hope it help :)

The Plague Marine squad looks great! The paint job looks on point and those third company bits fit right on in!

The Lord also looks good. I miss his old smoke colors but cannot deny the fact that I would be worried if something burned and left green and yellow smoke.

Also excited to see some progress on the Prince!

Cheers, guys!

@ Verux: Cheers! I'm looking forward to painting it too. :)

@ DuskRaider: Haha well I'm not that fast. Glad you like the DP! Also, would you be interested in some GW OOP Gors, to convert them into your beastmen-lague bearers?

@ malcharion: Cheers! Yes, I'm happy with the green too - it looks particularly sickly. You reference the metallics on the Death Guard, but which ones do you mean? The Steel Trim, the Bronze Trim, or the rusted weapons and exhausts? Either way, I agree the LoC is far too sharply highlighted, so please look at the recent marines for reference. I already apply all your tips, except that indeed I might put a little bright brown into the holes.

@ hushrong: Cheers! Yes, those third party bits look cool huh? I agree that the old smoke looked more realistic, but it just wasnt working with the rest of the composition - so I had to change it and I really like these colours - because as you say it looks worrisome. ;)

Haha, well you go so fast it wouldn't surprise me. You knocked out 100 Poxwalkers in less than a week. As far as Beastmen, the only thing I'm really using from the kit are the heads. I may do some kind of Ungor / Crypt Ghoul conversion but I'm unsure what they would actually be in a game (maybe Cultists?) and I don't know where I want to go with the Tribe from here, if anywhere at all.

Hey sorry mate you're right I was unprecise I was talking about the steel trim and rusted weapons. In fact the sol things that bother me is that we can see shiny dots of paint where they shouldn't. When you put the shade the holes in the weapon should go dark and they shouldn't shine anymore. If after that part you highlight again with a silver paint (mayby with a sponge ?) without avoiding the holes, it could explain why you have those shiny dots over black/brown shadows. That's why I was suggesting those solutions.

Anyway that's not a big deal ... BUT this DP surely is !!! It already look amazing mate ! Keep on !
