++ AUGUSTUS b'RAASS ++ pre-heresy BRASS SCORPION p.247

Recommended Posts

Depends, the MK3 "Legion" armor sets have rounded toe plates that look kinda like steel-toed boots. The MK3 Iron Armor sets have the "creased" and pointy look like Augustus' plaguies.

Speaking of which, that dread looks awesome with hoof-toes! ... hotoes?... ^_^ Ho-toes.

'Finished' the build for the Plague Contemptor.

I tried to make the ho-toes (thanks Flint :cool.:) look like they could actually mechanically work, and added some dings in it -conveniently placed in threes to make Nurgle symbols. I also finished the trim with tons of rivets, added trophies form the front plate of the Legion NL rhino door set, and fixed them with some sweet chains I finally got my hands on (from a guy living on the Isle of Mann nonetheless!).

Just the base left to finish and he's ready for some paint.

This doesn't mean I do not appreciate comments and feedback. He'll only be truly finished when there's basecoat on him, so there's still time to incorporate awesome ideas from you guys and gals. :tu:

Hope you like!

As said, C&C much appreciated!

Oh, if that's what you're shooting for I think you nailed it. That reference pic does put it into perspective. I don't think I ever noticed Mk. III having those funky toe plates.

Hehe 'funky toe plates'. Thanks for the feedback Jeff :D

Hey - I never noticed the difference between those two. We learn something every day... Also: ho-toes. Wow.

So critique is small, I think you may want to green stuff a little to fully connect the trim, as there is at least the one gap as seen in the above picture at a corner. Also, the left hand side of the belly still looks a tad too skirt like for me, but that might just be angles/lack of paint.

Thanks Flint! I fixed the trim like Teets suggested. I've also put skin flaps and rivets on the Rhino now, so he's ready for basecoat.

The large skinflap above the vision slits is to make the drivers be able to see the world through a haze of blood...

You... just made my day. It's been a grueling couple of weeks with projects for college, and I'm sitting down with too little sleep to send out some emails for the studio and try to get caught up with other things; then I decide to distract myself for a few minutes and come across... this, and I'm not feeling so fatigued anymore. Thank you.

Oh, and the Plague Contemptor... ummm... yeah... you nailed it. I was lurking the progress a while back, but didn't have time to write. You took the feedback I was hoping you would and it's paid off in spades. That is a war machine blessed by Grandfather Nurgle.

@Subtle Discord: I'm happy to hear I cheered you up mate. Really your chaos trim and track products are such a pleasure to work with. No warping or bending whatsoever. Just cut off the mold's supply channels and they fir right on there. It's serisouly better quality than FW and that's saying something. And if the Rhino made you smile, wait till I get around to building the two predators I have planned with your Proditor Predator extra armour kit. :tu: Good luck with your studies - and I hope for all other chaos players that you'll find the time to replenish your stock soon. :D

@Knight of the Raven: I know right? It's like some schmuck guardsman ducked a little too late and got his skin ripped off while being overrun by the tank :D

@ElDuderino: Best username ever? ;) Thanks man, and I say go right ahead with the collar idea!

@Forte: As always, you enthusiasm for my work is much appreciated, sir! :tu:

Thanks helterskelter! And dude, a lot of it is just persistent trial and error. Remember my first plague marine rhino? Compare those fleshy bits with what I'm doing now. That was only nine months ago! It's mostly not being afraid to try new things and ask for help or feedback, to redo things if you're unhappy with the result (I did the contemptor's guts four times... granted, at a certain point it was more a case of trial and terror...), and last but most certainly not least having the right tools. Everyone improves constantly, so keep it up mate!

Oh I'm certainly not afraid of choppy choppy, i'm going to have to start offering baked goods to get more people to leave feedback though! Haha. You do inspire me to push to ever greater challenges, so as long as you keep going, I can reach ever loftier heights. That's right, this is what bromance looks like from a 30k NL

I am darkness incarnate, and I approve this pun.

Also, those fleshy bits on the rhino make it *work* so much better, and it was awesome to begin with. Gah! You're too good at that!

Imma have to break into my sculpting tools to give you some grotesque accessory competition :P

@ HelterSkelter - I totally get the bromance angle. Threaten more stabbings!

Stabs ahoy! A while back, I submitted one of my ETL entries -the jetbike sorcerer- into a Night Lords HQ painting competition over at the Night Lords - VIII Legion facebook group. The group's admin, a Russian guy called Serge, is a pretty good sculpter who for some reason has taken it upon himself to sculpt and produce these AWESOME pads, torsos, trophies etc. especially for our favorite legion. I won thrid place in the competition, and he told us weeks ago that there would be something neat coming our way. Today I got this super detailed, crisp mini in the mail!

Composed pic of the intended finished build.

Apart form some slight proportional issues and the rather flat top, this is pretty much a perfect terminator. I'm going to enter this dude into the Call of Chaos as my sixth and last entry. I originally vowed a " Lightning Claw armed Chaos Lord" but I think I'll slightly change that so that this guy can have an Axe of blind Fury and a Burning Brand of Skalathrax or something. Also, there's two heads. One bare head, which this guy will have, and a helmeted one. I checked, and it's a perfect fit for a contemptor. :biggrin.: Yay!

Edit: deleted weird picture code artifacts

Sweet!

Totally saw this guy a little while back and had to fight the urge to get him and make yet another librarian.

Can't wait to see what you do with him!

Well, this mini is a total selfmade sculpt, I can assure you. The proportions are too much off to suspect even a base use of GW terminator parts. The Night Lords bat-winged skull motiff is too generic to be copyrightable, so I don't see a problem with this at all. As far as I'm concerned, this is a sculpt made by a talented fan who jumped into an empty market space - namely that of a cool Night Lords heavy armoured gothic sci-fi miniature. And he was nice enough to send it to me gratis. Don't look a gifted horse in the mouth: I'm super happy with the mini. :tu:

Oh, boy: That is an excellent third prize! Although it beggars belief that you should only have come in at third place, given the quality of your work ;)

As for the model itself, the only thing that really seems noticeably wonky from an anatomic perspective is the too long torso -- maybe you should just shave down the terminator head portion and turn him into a true scale NL? Just sayin'...

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for the replies, guys!

@The_Chaplain and KrautScientist: Thanks guys! I don't have a proper plan for him yet. I know he is a little out of proportion, but I actually kinda like that about him. He will not be a true scale for sure, as I've had five truescale dudes lying around forever. I plan on making them ADB's First Claw. :D

Now that I'm getting up to steam with finishing my Chaos vows, I have precious little else on my hands than paint: the the 8legged LoS and the plague contemptor are finished and the the termie lord won;t be too much fuss. So I wanted to start building something I've been looking forward to for a loooooooong time. As perhaps you know, I purchased some of subtle discords products a while back. I used his chaos trim on my -now finished- chaos rhino. But the parts I was looking forward to the most where the proditor predator extra armour bits. I've had a plan of creating another predator with a Leman Russ turret, like the one with the magna melta I did back in April. I really enjoy that tank on the battlefield, and bought the parts to build another one. But I'm not sure I want an exact copy of the previous one. I love to push my modelling skills with every new tank, so I decided that the leman russ turret would have a twin lascannon. I also didn;t want to use all the parts form the Subtle Discord predator kit on one tank, so I used only the largest parts on this tank.

This is about an hour's work and the tank is of course in very early stages of coming together. What do you guys and gals think?

Ouch! Mold lines on the lascannons.... *WHY* do I always see them when it's too late? :wacko.:

Wow that armor kit looks spiffy. The alternate turret looks promising as well-- though with the turret ring (where a commander would typically be modeled), I can't help but think it looks a bit like a teched up brazier-- I can almost see it glowing with an eldritch light, spirits and phantasmagoric entities escaping and flying around it (like the ones in the new spirit host kit).
