Liking "the Beast" he's got some real attitude to him and you took him a direction I didn't expect, which is a pleasant surprise :D

The rest of IV Tactical are all so memorable with their little distinct personalities and the fluff really expands on them. Sgt Kolan is definetly my next favourite in the whole bunch. Great work.

It's been a while, but the Thunderfire Thudd Gun and its accompanying techmarine (named by Black_out) are now completed! Also, the last five man tactical squad from my 1250 list is built. yay!

Techmarine - Tomas Golch - Black_out

A dedicated warrior, Techmarine Golch showed a talent for handling the machine spirits of vehicles even during his initiation trials. He rose to become a Land Speeder gunner during his training in Tenth company, and was send to study with the Mechanicum on Mars as soon as he became a true Astartes. He has an aptitude for appeasing the cantankerous machine spirits of particularly ancient machines, and was thus tasked with the operation and maintenance of Fifth company's artillery battalion. He has booked great success in reawakening and focussing the spirits of the battalion´s ancient Thunderfire Cannon prototypes.

The aim of the cannon is still poseable. :smile.:

And of course, when there's not enough room for the base of the piece when I want to deploy it in cover in some crowded scenery, the piece is magnetized to its base!

Hope you like!

Now, onto the WIP pics of VI Tactical Squad

Veteran sergeant - Johannu Ermik - hushrong

Wearing a yellowish MKIII pad on his left shoulder, which is one of the last vestiges of my dwindling stock of MkIII bits that I bought years ago, which I only two years ago realized were recasts.

Comms specialist - Adolar Notker - Nemac Vradon

This guy wears IX Devastator squad's former helmet (which was replaced by one with a plume. Because all my officers need plumes.) It will be repainted into yellow. The left antenna is a metal paper clip rod, the tip of which I sanded to not appear clipped. :tu:

I hope you like them!

C&C as always very welcome. Thanks for looking :biggrin.:

Reply:

@Soric: Yeah cheers. he's actually the guy that inspired the background of the entire squad. I was like: "this guy looks brutal, he should get some crazy fluff." And then that infected my brain for the rest of the writing session. :smile.:

Looks like I forgot to mention a couple of things....

1:

The gun looks great, but I think the treads look a bit too clean to have rolled onto that wet looking mud.

You're totally right, and I totally forgot to mention I ordered the armour panels that go with those Cataphron Battle Servitor tracks, paint them yellow, and then do the weathering of the tracks (with powders) like I do on my tanks. So that! ;)

2:

The speed at which you are cranking these out is nothing short of stunning -- and the quality is excellent as well! Is that the Pedro Kanter banner on the latest veteran sergeant, btw?

Cheers buddy! And yes, that's Pedro's banner. For which I thank thee very much! @everyone: KrautScientist was kind enough to send this piece, along with the 40K 25 anniversary model's banner (which will feature on the company standard.

@Barabbas Sogalon: Thanks buddy. It came out looking pretty sweet, no? :)

Augustus, seriously, you knocked the techmarine out of the park! He looks splendid as does your DIY thunderfire/thudd gun!

I think my favorite part is how you built up his aptitude for ancient machinery which, ironically, mirrors my own personal telents and interests. I've been maintaining, restoring and rebuilding old motorcycles, cars and machines almost my entire life! That's actually why I chose to name the techmarine in the first place. Brilliant!

Nice work on the Thudd-fire cannon and Techmarine. The red looks sharp, as does the base. The razor wire kills it for me. (In the good way) The new squad looks very cool too, again I'm really taken with your Sergeant.  And where the heck do you get those tiny little shields from? I must have some.

Thanks guys, for the positive feedback!

Love how the tech marines shoulder pad is a blend of mechanicum and IF. cant wait to see whats painted next

Cheers buddy! That transfer is actually just taken from the FW IF transfer sheet. Super awesome, no?

I'm liking the look of my guy. The helmet plus the pose gives him a strong, almost brutish look. I could imagine him clubbing to death seventy cultists no problem.

Haha he will and he probably has. ;)

@ Auggie: I just think it's great that you've found a good use for the banner! This seems much cooler than my original plan of merely using it as base decoration on an Iron Warriors model!

Thanks bro. I'm very happy with it, too. Thanks again for sharing it with me. I only hope the stuff I sent you is as useful to you as your stuff was to me. :)

Great use of parts and fair play to KS for giving you the pieces. You used them very well.

Loving the look of that Thudd Gun though. Reminds me of WW2 field guns.

Dude, thanks! That was for sure the look I was going for. :)

That Techmarine and the Thudd gun look fantastic!
Also looking fantastic is VI sqd. I dig how Ermik looks with a sweet banner to top it off.

Yeah he's a brute for sure. Like his brother. ;)

You really are a building and painting machine. The quality does not suffer from the speed either.

Cheers. I do admit the train is slowing down, though. Kinda suffering from yellow burnout. Work is killing me as well, which doesn't really help. If all goes well I should have finished the 1250 list by mid February.

Great work on the Techmarine Auggi - love his shoulder icon

Cheers Atia! The FW IF Transfer sheet really is a blessing.

That is one awesome artillery piece :smile.: I want one now X) !

Get one! They're cheaper than real thunderfire cannons!

And you think this was a coincidence??? ;) :p Haha I'm super happy this worked out. Thanks for naming him!

Thanks buddy. The shields are simply the tilt shields from the Grey Knight Terminator kit.

I'm currently working on finishing painting III Scout Squad. I've also primed VI Tactical Squad, so hopefully by the end of next week I get enough free time to get them done. Thanks again for all the sweet comments and feedback. You guys and gals are a real motivator in getting this project done.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just a little update sans pics to show I'm not dead. Life is a maelstrom atm, as our team recently dwindled from 15 persons to 5, of which one is away on vacation and one is sick, so basically each of us is doing the work done by five people previously. Also, me and the GF decided to start looking for a house to live in together, and things kinda went super fast. So last week I became the owner of a house, and have since spent all my time either working or prepping the house to start living there, ie putting in a floor etc.

I do have the last five-man marine squad ready and primed, but it's been waiting for paint for about three weeks now. I haven't painted a miniature in over two weeks, which for me feels like a lifetime... Tonight I gave myself off (after putting the flu-riddled GF to bed) so I'm cranking up the compressor for a coating of yellow... :)

Thanks, gang!

It's pretty awesome to own a real house - but it also feels kinda weird. I've recently come to realize I'm one of the old geezers in the hobby, and until quite recently I didn't feel any different from how I felt in my 20s. Buying the house changed that - as in suddenly I realize I've been an adult for over ten years, with a (several) job(s) and stuff. I've lived in rented student housing, communal housing, and in a teeny tiny apartment in a 1626 building in the dead centre of Amsterdam for the last two years (Kurama's seen it, when he visited last year). I've always had to find ways to store all my hobby stuff and gotten really good at it (my sister's boyfriend of six years said something to the effect of "You'd expect to see pots of paint and brushes in his house" after I sent a "yippy-email" about ADB's post about First Squad to my family last year. He knew about my "weird" hobyy, but not about the extent of my geekiness lol :biggrin.:) So now having a 74m2 living area is pretty awesome. I'll be using a 12 m2 room as a hobby room/workout area - with tons of shelf space to display all my models (right now I'm actually stacking my daemons on top of my Chaos army, and my growing IF army just sits on the window sill in plain view which is NOT how I want it to be). All my tools, paints, brushes and everything else I use will be at First Order Retrievability. Anyway, the house changed things. For the better, but it still feels kinda weird and new and everything. :tu:

Thanks too for the motivation. It's double awesome how B&C always gets my hobby juices flowing. I'm half way through the last five-man squad of my 1250 IF list right now. Cheers!

Congrats on the house mate, having a decent living space makes one heck of a difference. Hope things ease up at work for you though, we're not used to not seeing you paint. :tongue.:
