To get rid of that yucky feeling, I painted the last (LAST) squad of my 1250 IF list yesterday! YAY! I'm done! Well, with the infantry, and only after I put transfers on the two scout squads that is. So one razorback to go and I'll be really done with the list. Hopefully I'll be able to finish that one before the moving house, which means my current mini house in the centre of Amsterdam will always be 'the house in which I painted my Fists'. Or something vomit-inducing like that.

 

Anyway, I took some pics of VI Tactical Squad, below.

Veteran sergeant - Johannu Ermik - hushrong

A blood-sworn gang-brother to Sergeant Kolan of IV Squad, having led a short life of crime and violence before being inducted into the Chapter, Sergeant Johannu Ermik is one of the most steadfast adherents to the Imperial Creed of Fifth Company. He leads his squad with zeal, and inspires his battle brothers with frequent Echlessiarchical litanies. His perceived quiet demeanor betray a deep faith in the Emperor's will, and he is being watched by Chaplain Kaprellian for his qualities in inspiring the men under his command. Ermik´s squad suffered casualties during the last campaign, and has been supplemented with two additions recently. 

 

Comms specialist - Adolar Notker - Nemac Vradon

Specialist Notker has served sergeant Ermik for six decades. He has copied his strong belief in the Creed, and always carries a copy of Chaplain Kaprellion's latest sermon with him. He sees his duty as a comms officer as a sacred task laid out for him by the Emperor´s will. 

 

Heavy Weapon Specialist (Lascannon) - Fridrik Kolnar - thamier

A former scout sniper, Specialist Kolnar combines the fervour of specialist Notker with the steadfastness of Sergeant Ermik. Outside daily training rituals or combat, during the 15 minutes of daily free time, Kolnar seeks out Notker to engage him in religious polemic. They share a bond which the seal by ritually writing Kaprellian's sermons on parchment and carrying it with them in battle.

 

Battle Brother - Nikolowz Leofstan - TDF

Brother Leofstan is a recent addition to IV Squad, having been assigned to the squad from one of the reserve companies to replace recent losses. Leofstan is a marksman, and has had part of his cranium replaced with a bionic implant to enhance his vision and targeting abilities. The implant affected his personality, making him more calculating and efficient in carrying out his duties, but making him less in touch with his fellow Astartes. Although his skills are appreciated by his brothers, he is still getting used to Ermik´s leadership style.  

 

Battle Brother - Drakkarus Vorn - Dragonlover

Having recently completed his initiation trials, Brother Vorn´s service with VI Squad is his first as a true Astartes. He has been  welcomed by his brothers, but still feels the need to prove himself as a recent inductee. Recent actions have shown him to be competitive with the other recent addition to VI squad, Brother Leofstan. As such, further psycho-indoctrination might be deemed neccesary. 

 

 

Hope you like! As I wrote this, I had kind of an epiphany regarding Captain Franz Landa's model. Lemme get to work and I'll show you later.

@Mrbear: haha thanks buddy! No worries, the house is pretty much all done. The floor is laid in and I only need to build the walk-in closet. After that it's just moving house and my productivity be hopefully back around early March.

I also still have the Leviathan plus his Lucius drop pod ready, as well as an IF contemptor and two more 'thuddfire cannons', plus a Storm Talon and perhaps an anti grav devastator squad. All of which needs yellow paint. I bought a lot of FW armor lately, which combined with the six rapiers I still have made me consider starting 30K SoH....But that is for the future. After all this yellow, I need my Chaos fix. I have a crazy Soul grinder conversion idea barreling through my brain, which I will most definitely execute before ETLV. And I WILL be joining the Chaos team for the ETL, you can be sure of that.

Yeah sorry to double post, but I got a bit frantic and produced a new captain.

 

So this is the first Franz Landa I produced.

Heçs cool and all, pretty stock, as the Captain in my 1250 list has no upgrades at all. I replaced his bolt pistol with a bolter, and that was it. But the model just didn't really jive with me. So I've been having this plan to replace him, but I didn't know how. I dislike the captain model GW produces, besides it being impossible to not give him any upgrades. 

 

And then a friend gave me the recently released Nathaniel Garro model. I love it, except for that fugly bolter of his. Plus, you know, helmetless marines are stupid. So I went to work, and this is what I've produced so far. Mind you, he's completely putty'd together right now.

 

I filled in all inquisition iconography with milliput (FAR better than GS for these purposes), put a edged brass fist over his knee, replaced his bolter with a pistol, stuck a helmet over his face, and put a banner on him (because you know, banners need to be). My only thing is he has a power sword, so I might decide to replace that. It's an awefully cool pose though, which might be ruined.... On the other hand, I want the army to be fully wysiwig. On the other other hand, his sword's scabbard is pretty much impossible to get off the model without destroying his cape.

Hmmm.

Looking good, the green really complements the other colours and I like the ways you've worked it in via detailing; whether through laurels or grenades.

Love the new version of Landa, man, looks like a total badass. Honestly, he blows the old version out of the water.
Also, you should totally try to replace the power sword with a chainsword, in my opinion. I mean, you only live once, right? If you can't get the scabbard off, not sure if it's possible or not, but just put a hilt so that he has a backup blade. Never let it be said that the sons of Dorn aren't pragmatic.

What close combat weapon did you want him to have and is it for rules or aesthetics? If its rules wise and you don't want to pay for his sword, just paint it with no energy effect and call it a plain close combat weapon. Aesthetically, if you prefer a chainsword then I agree that the biggest problem would be the cloak and scabbard, however he's channeling Templar pretty strong with that helmet so you could leave it and make some fluff up about his wargear being relics of the old Legion

Maybe a combi weapon? Afaik Auggis dudes are not an HH army (?), so no chooooooooooooms (or is there a shooty relict he could use to represent a surviving choooooom?)

@The Psycho & @Skimaskmohawk: : I love the idea of a back-up/relic blade - maybe I'll leave the scabbard open and write fluff for him that he actually LOST his paragon blade to an Ork or something, and is now wielding a simple chain sword and an empty scabbard as penance until he recovers it..... @The Psycho: You're right and I did notice it, but immediately thought it'd be pretty easy to dremel the holstered pistol away and replace it with the empty holster from the BaC kit. Thanks for telling me know anywways, though!

 

@Atia: Yeah ROOL of COOL indeed. But I also really want (need to get xtra tourny points) WYSIWYG.... dammit, I can't decide!!!

 

@Quixus: Well, I pretty much sawed off the original bolter, as I opted for a bolt pistol because I thought that pose with the one handed bolter just looks ridiculous. Also, it´s 40K, so CHOOM is a nono.... :'(

 

@Atia2: No can do. The 1250 list says Cpatain, 90 points. So he has NO extra thingies. Nothing. Just a bolt pistol, a regular close Combat weapon, and an Iron Halo.

VI squad is fantastic! Loving the back story and how awesome you have made Ermik look! And that new captain looks like a proper leader of astartes.

As far as I am concerned their are only two differences between a power weapon and a regular weapon.

Power weapons have power generators, and power weapons have power fields.

The power field can be fixed with not painting it, and the power generators can be filed off to turn it into a regular close combat weapon. Since close combat weapons and chainswords have identical profiles, I would still count that as wysiwyg, as his rules match his weapons.

However, from what I can tell of the model, GS/milliput should be able to fill in the gap if you remove the whole scabbard+bolt pistol holster grouping together, and a chainsword would probably look nice, although you may want to consider a slimmer eldar weapon for the blade rather than a chunky human one, and then you would be able to keep the hilt.

Bigger issue though:

Aren't the Imperial Truth and the Imperial Creed two very different and mutually exclusive things?

VIth Tactical looking sharp and their background sounds good aswell., glad to see that your painting is back on (some kind of ) track again.

 

The Captain is mighty promising. Can't give you much advise on the conversion though as anything beyond a simple swap of part is pretty much beyond my ability to comment on, especially the potential major repair work needed if something goes wrong with this guy.
