@ Grizzly_bear: haha thanks buddy. And yeah, the guy he's modelled after is pretty sweet. :d

@ kizzdougs: thanks buddy. I hope at least the photography can get to your level... ;)

@ The Observer: haha thanks. Not only for observing, but for the comment too.

@ Teetengee: That'd most definitely be you, mate. :) The chappy is black-and-grey. I might have gone a lottle overboard with the grey highlights, but I used greys without green teints. Perhaps it's your screen?

Hey guys, another finish and a new project.

First, it's the new Captain Landa. The original one was the guy from AobR, with the eponymous bolter and chainsword. But I didn't like his pose, or how stock he looked. Plus, you know, no helmet. So I made a new one with Nathaniel Garro as a base. And he's finished now! Yay! Here's pics:

I hope you like him! I´m super excited that he´s finished on time, because next Saturday is the 1250 tournament. He, together with a part of my 1250 list with some support (the deredeo, biker chappy and the two artillery pieces and their techmarine crews) are now resting comfortably in the inward facing display cabinet of GW Amsterdam South.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160313_017_zps52ecs2pt.jpg

I played a test game against a Necron Decurion detachment a week ago, which I soundly won. Admittedly, it was against a guy who never plays competitively. Still, despite it being kinda one-sided, we had a lot of fun. He actually asked me, as he just wanted to see the army in action. I´m still amazed by the incredible amount of firepower the list can lay down. The 1250 games are played on a 4'x4' table, and even with six five-man marine squads positioned in one ruined building, I still needed the entire width of the table to deploy everything. Lookit! :biggrin.:

Additionally, the following happened. I found a second-hand tank on eBay. It was a really good deal, and it felt a bit dodgy. But the guy could provide the FW bags that came with the tank, so I went for it. The colour of the resin is slightly off, so I'm still not quite sure if this is the real product or not. But if it isn't, this is for sure the best recast anyone has ever laid eyes on. The detail is so incredibly crisp. Anyway, I bought a Sicaran.

I'm not sure if putting lascannon sponsons on it is the best option, so I nicked Kizzdougs idea of simply putting in 25mm bases. I magnetized them, and sanded them down to have a smooth surface. I've also put metal Imperial Fists icons on it, which are luckily still available from GW - I wonder why they still make them in pewter, though. Anyone any ideas?

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160313_014_zpsor52cpwp.jpg

The thing went together super smoothly. But when the 2-component epoxy had dried, I noticed two gaps! NOOOOOOO. I'll try to remedy that with some milliput, or a 1:1 milliput/greenstuff mix. I'd love some advice on how to fix this... I cannot pull apart the parts, because the epoxy is too strong. Seriously, given enough time, that stuff hold two opposing magnets together.

Anyway, thanks for looking and feedback (and in this case advice on the gap filling!) welcome!

Cheers!

No idea, but I believe the chaos legions' shoulder pads are still in metal... and are ever so slightly cheaper than the loyalists' resin equivalents. Other chaos legions are sold out though, so I think they're just selling what's left in their stock.

"Good to have you back Captain, those Mechanicus cog-noggins sure took their time forging that new suit for you, nice to see they remembered the Helm this time."

~Sergeant Erhard Zeikfried, 9th Devastator.

*salutes* Lovely work on Captain Lambda Augustus, that Garro model looks great in banana-clad. :)

Oh yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!

The captain looks awesome. He has all the right looks for someone to be leading the army you have built. Also, I never paid much attention to Garros mini but is his right leg bionic?

Also, I love seeing sicarans and I am looking forward to it being finished. I like the sponson stand in as well.

The new version of Landa is looking fantastic, and upgrading him to a unique model was certainly the right decision. The AOBR model is nice enough, but it's also fairly common. This guy, though? Fantastic!

In fact, it's nothing short of humbling how you've been pushing out one squad after another, and all at such a high quality level. Brilliant work all around!

Regarding the pewter icons, I believe it's simply the easiest and cheapest way for them, really: In order to make them in plastic, they'd need a new mold, and I think just casting them in metal until the old one gives out is probably the most cost effective. To wit, there are chaos bitz packs where the icons you get actually look like pewter versions of the plastic bitz that come with the chaos vehicle sprue -- go figure ;)

Anyway, keep up the fantastic work, mate! :)

The new Landa looks simply smashing! As someone who really likes unique Space Marines there is only one thing to say:

Great model for Landa.  As for the army, on a 4x4 board with that many vehicles (and a correct line up / target selection ) there can be only one tactic - "FORWARD!"?   Anything left in opposition not ground into the dirt when reaching the other board edge? :biggrin.:

I would recommend you get a few different thicknesses of plasticard to fill the gaps on the Sicaran. You can use card stock to make a template for the gaps you need to fill, mark the plasticard and use a steel ruler and sharp knife to cut it. Once the plastic is the right size you can easily glue it into the gaps and make final shaping adjustments with the aforementioned sharp blade.

That revamped Captain Landa is amazing. Nice and stoic pose. Not overboard blingy but just right for a captain.

Is the cloak a part of the backpack? Or is it cast on the body?

Wow, thanks for all the replies, guys :smile.:

@ Knight of the Raven: haha - your GIF made me laugh. Thanks bro. :biggrin.:

@ SanguiniusReborn: "I'm glad you approve, Zeikfried. Now, don't you have a duty to do?" ~Captain Franz Landa, 5th Company

@ Brother Pheidias: Dude the chest eagle is what sold it for me. I love it! It's so pompously in-your-face.

@ Kurama: Haha thanks mate! Hope all is good down under!

@ hushrong: Thanks, and yes, his right knee is bionic. It's a pretty amazing figure all around, to be honest. I might get another one and scavenge it for bits.

@ KrautScientist: Hey buddy! Long time no see around the forum, and longer on my WiP. Your comments and constructive feedback are always greatly appreciated. :smile.: I'm going to need it soon, as I've got a Khorne Daemonkin army planned for the ETL. I can definitely get behind your comments re: pewter vs finecast/plastic. I've bought that chaos icon set back in '11, and was a little bummed when I found out it was just a bunch of pewter versions of the vehicle accessories sprue.

@ MrBear: Yes! I'm prouder of my MrBear's Seal of Approval than DiCaprio is of his Oscar!

@ Psykic Scribe: FORWARD is what he did, and I practiced the hollowed tactic of Hold Your Ground And Shoot - also known as Hygas. Nothing moved except for the two razorbacks on the far right in turn 3 (as there was nothing left of his right flank), and the tactical squad on the ground floor in the building, who, together with my captain and my chaplain, charged the last three necrons. Splat.

@ kizzdougs: Thanks bro! It's not all though. Here's the true army shot.

@ SkimaskMohawk:

@ ephrael: That's good advice, bro. I'll take that into consideration as an alternative to gap filler.

@ jimbo13: Cheers, dude. Yeah the cloak is part of the backpack. The whole model is built in a classic space marine body, so the bits are: 2x arm+pad+weapon, torso, backpack, legs, and the head. Seriously, Garro is not only an epic figurine, it's also a great source of bits.

Sorry to double-post here, but my answer to krautScientist, in which I revealed my plans to start a Khorne Daemonkin army, got my into a frenzy.

I've always been deathly afraid to paint red. When I restarted with the hobby back in 2010, the first guys I did in my 5th edition naivité where Khorne Berzerkers (as the last time I played 40k was during 3d edition, where KBs were insanely good in combination with Rhinos). After that, I tried to do Word Bearers. I ended up with a fairly large army, of which every sngle unit had a different recipe for red. It looked like &%$#@ and I sold everything after I found out that blue was super easy and effective - which led to Night Lords. But I've always had a weakness for Khorne - in fact, my Third Edition Chaos lord was named Augustus b'Raass ;)

So I'm starting Daemonkin soon, and my regular hobby buddy Ruben suggested a recipe, which he read in a mutual friend's FW painting guide: black undercoat, white airbrushed highlights, followed by a liberal airburhsed coat of Tamiya Clear Red - which I have. So here are some testers:

This is the pure recipe that I descibed above, using Ceramite White as a white spray..

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/World%20Eaters/WP_20160315_005_zpsbmfj3r5w.jpg

This is a step by step. First a canned Chaos Black undercoat, followed by an edge canned spray of Corvus White

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/World%20Eaters/WP_20160315_001_zpsuuloq9nn.jpg

Then a middle spray of Averland Sunset

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/World%20Eaters/WP_20160315_002_zpsnildm9gu.jpg

After spraying the panel on the right with Tamiya Clear Red, I decided to overspray the right panel's Averland Sunset with Mephiston Red...

¨...which subsequently got its Tamiya Clear Red spray

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/World%20Eaters/WP_20160315_004_zps7mclbjbh.jpg

What do you guys think? This is just a quick and dirty tester, but i'm interested to hear your thoughts.

:tu:

Thanks for looking and your feedback.

That looks really awesome dude. I'd be interested to see what it looks like on a full model, and also how well it translates to dudes, but I think you're on to something.

Are you planning out your Daemonkin like you did the Fists, or just accumulating models and painting the lot?

That looks wickedly similar to the paintjob on the FW brass scorpion, and maybe the slaughterer thingy.

Very nice and very effective, I love that you have done a hazy Khorne outline on one of the doors.

The yellow under the red, does that give it a warmer tone? It'll look cracking with the black, brass & steel.

Oh and Landa is EPIC!!
