++ AUGUSTUS b'RAASS ++ pre-heresy BRASS SCORPION p.247

CHeers, guys.

Started work on the Kytan Daemon Engine. Did the red, almost all metal, and the first layer or all cabling and skulls. Tons of work to be done, but I feel like I want to be building stuff. ;) The Spartan calls. I did order the new WE transfer sheet, so hopefully I can use that on this baby too. ;)

Thanks for looking!

Replies!

Just to expand your horizons Brother those "interlocking studs" are called track links* (and there a #%$%$ to change in three feet of mud).

I'm looking forward to another inspirational piece of armor from ya!

*They are an approximate representation of track links :smile.:

Ah right, thanks. I always thought the individual thingies of the tracks were the track links. But I guess it makes more sense if the lthingies thatactually link them are called track links. So the individual track thingies are called 'tracks', as well as the entire track itself?

Man. Ahriman is an absolute BOSS! Great work, exceptional stuff

Got to admit, really looking forward to your Spartan, it may even spur me on to build mine!

Me too buddy! Me too! And to yours!

Thanks, Thousand Eyes! I've finished the Kytan Daemon Engine.

Damn, what an awesome model. it comes together very, very easily, tbh. Such a great FW kit. I ended up not being able to find the third -for lack of a better word- crotch plate, so he only has two. But I think I actually prefer him this way. It makes the skulls on chains not dangle so low.

Anyway, 'nuff said. Here's the pictures!

Looking absolutely fantastic, buddy! Khorne is pleased!

I agree with gaurdian31 that the eyes should be blue -- in fact, I'd also consider adding some blue glow to those small slits on both sides of the breastplate. I've done something similar on my Maulerfiend (the sculpt shares the same slits on approximately the same place), and it really adds some pop to the model without being overwhelming.

Anyway, gorgeous stuff! With the big guy out of the way, when can we expect those final tweaks on the Soulgrinder and Bloodthirster (yeah, I know I'm a bastard ;) ) ?

Concur w/the eyes.

@Kraut - think he does have those slits colored in, mostly visible in the 5th picture. Still a good call though!

Mr. b'Raas, really like the deep red you're using, instead of a brighter color scheme. Really helps it match with the more subdued metallics, and let's the brighter blue glows 'pop' rather nicely.

The 2-plate groin area is a great accident. I think it looks better than the standard configurement. .

Thanks, guys! About the blue eyes and slits:

But... but... he has blue eyes. And the slits are blue too! It's just such a huge model I can't make proper macro shots with my camera in my light box. So some details might be obscured....:thumbsup:

Ahhhhh I was wondering when you'd show up, demanding pictures of Captain Eight Legs and his chicken legged lieutenant. ;)

Unfrotunately these guys individually are WAY too big to get proper shots of in my light box, so I took them outside... Here they are:

Very nice buddy! Your red has improved quite a lot since Eight Legs. in my opinion. I like the new guy a lot.

Thanks buddy! Yeah I agree, the red has matured quite a bit. Before, I couldn't get the pink tone out. It's why I'm still considering repainting the LoS....

Meanwhile, I've already started on the Typhon. This is it last night (with celebratory beers after finishing the Kytan).

And this it the Typhon after a spray with the new GW Leadblecher spray can. NO brush or airbrush has touched this tank...

I have a feeling my iron Warriors will take even less time than the Imperial Fists I did this year...

@ Auggs: Aw, sorry, mate: My bad about the blue! To be perfectly honest, I already had a sneaking suspicion that the problem might lie with the photos and nt with the actual model -- still, better safe than sorry!

That comparison picture is just amazing! I sooo want to steal those models from your house! :smile.:

Regarding the tank, huh, boxy Space Marine tank is boxy. But to each their own, of course. Just wake me up when the next, non-tank model comes along!

Outstanding work (even if it is Khornate ;) ).

And that gold is Vallejo's Liquid Old Gold?

Next time I'm over in Akihabara (where I know there's a shop stocking Vallejo) I'll have to pick some up!

This is a reply to the uneditted version of this quoted comment about tanks  :

@ guardian31: Cheers, buddy!

@ Isengrin: Thanks, bro. I'm not going to do OSL effects on the Kytan. I'm thoroughly cured of the fake OSL airbrushing yields.

@ Teetengee: TYPHOOOOOOOOON! Also, today I put the Spartan together. :)

@ Kierdale: Yes, the gold is Vallejo Liquid Old Gold, with a Agrax Earthshade Gloss wash and a 1:1 leadbelcher: Liberator Gold edge highlight.

@ depthcharge12: If you like the Khornate Crab so much, check him out here.  Sorry for the crappy pics beforehand. ;)

Well, two can play at that game, buddy! ;)

But seriously, you go paint your tanks, and in the meantime, I can just look forward to whatever's next. Unlike it's, you know, just more tanks... o_O

Touché, buddy. ;) In all seriousness: I have bad news, semi-good, and good news for you. The bad news is that after the Typhon, I still have a Spartan to paint in my ETL vow. The semi-good news is that it'll be painted khornate. The good news is I have TONS of Khornate daemons and Marines planned. I even bought a set of Blood Warriors for parts. :D

Thanks, mechanist!

Alright, update time. I did a lot of work on the Typhon yesterday.

Did all the chevrons, shaded the Leadbelcher by mixing in VMA (Gloss) Black, and did the black parts. Mainly the track coverings.

I also finished the doors using two of the rhino door transfers from the FW Iron Warriors sheet. They were basecoated black, then fitted with the transfer, after which I airnrushed the edges. I then gave it a gloss varnish, followed by a satin farnish. I love the faded look of the result!

Hope you like, and as always: feedback welcome, guys and galls :tu:
