Augustus b'Raass
Ah right. I haven't seen that one yet - I'm still familiarizing myself with the HH rules and books. What page can I find him in the new Legiones Astartes book? Here's a quick - out of focus - comparison shot with a contemptor. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/temporary_zpshpdgbdaa.jpg DuskRaider 1 Back to top
Brother-Chaplain Kage
Hey Augs, hope you don't mind, but it looked like a few of your recent pics could do with a little correcting in PhotoShop. http://i.imgur.com/xplVwga.png http://i.imgur.com/Rm9AeGj.png Brother Chaplain Ryld, Augustus b'Raass, Hathis and 2 others 5 Back to top

Augustus b'Raass
@ BCK: No problem at all, I appreciate it very much, in fact! (but perhaps put them in hidden brackets?) What was wrong with the pics I took, in your opinion; what did you do to correct them; and what can I do in the future to get better results? @ SkimaskMohawk: no silly I was responding to DuskRaider's comment about the Cortus Contemptor - which the Iron Circle could sub as, at least accordingt to DuskRaider. So if you know the page number of the Cortus in the AoD Legions Army List, please share! EDIT: Leave it. I found it myself: it's page 38. KrautScientist
Actually, I've already caught myself thinking the same thing regarding some of your pictures: For instance, just adjusting the levels and white balance would do wonders for the quality of the pictures (Photoshop has handy functions called "auto levels", "auto contrast" etc. for this). Brother-Chaplain Kage
I'm no photography expert, but there was nothing "wrong" with your photos, they just needed a bit of correcting to sharpen them up some and removing the red tint from the Domitar pic. I used the Auto Color, and then did manual adjustments with Curves, Levels, Hue/Saturation, and Contrast. I don't always like the results of Auto Contrast and Auto Tone and rarely use them. KrautScientist
I don't always like the results of Auto Contrast and Auto Tone and rarely use them. True enough, but it's a good place to start if you have little previous knowledge of image editing. @ Augs: Here's a post you might want to check out. It really goes into lots of useful detail and you don't even need Photoshop to make use of it. Augustus b'Raass 1 Back to top
BrotherJim
Wow that was fast! Woosh! The Iron Circle Contemptor is looking mighty boss! You've really done him justice Augustus, he looks great beside your Khornate Contemptor.
Mechanist
that iron circle looks great someone is definitely in for a bad day meeting that in a dark ally. Augustus b'Raass
Thanks guys! Although I didn't even post a WiP picture here, I did vow another unit as a fifth vow in the ETL - a Herald of Khorne. Just the one from the Skullcannon kit - with the left hand converted to look like a clenched fist. Anyway, here are some pictures. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/World%20Eaters/temporary_zpsjnjla0sg.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/World%20Eaters/temporary_zps1uvryho5.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/World%20Eaters/temporary_zpsmohs4tfq.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/World%20Eaters/temporary_zpsrjv1wxmm.jpg I can't believe how washed out the colours look in the pics though - I assure you, the highlighting on the face is very pronounced! Feedback welcome. Replies: @ KrautScientist: I don't own photoshop, and my phone's camera is weird with white balance. I need to practice more, methinks. @ DuskRaider: Cheers, buddy, you're welcome! :) @ FangBanger: thanks to you too, mate! @ BCK: Ah, well I don't own photoshop, so I should start messing around in GIMP, I think. Thanks for the input! @ KrautScientist: That's a helpful link, thanks! I'll take a looksee through that whole section, actually. :tu: @ BrotherJim: Ha! It's my usual speed. Because of some personal issues, I haven't been as productive as I can, these past few months. Still, 6K points in high-value/points models is nothing to sneeze at, I think. :) @ Mechanist: Cheers buddy! I'll definitely weather his feet and other areas. Thanks to you and Krauty for pointing it out. :) Midnightmare 1 Back to top
sockwithaticket
Another ETL, another phalanx of warp-tainted evil pours forth from this thread. Of course it all looks stunning.Must commend you specially on the hazard stripes on the IW stuff, they are super precise, which is as it should be.There's great depth to your silver, too.Great to see another Helltalon, I think I've mentioned previously it's one of my favourite non-imperial models and it looks oh so right clad in midnight. Augustus b'Raass
Hellooo. It´s been some time. Must say the ETL makes me more productive each year, but a bit less creative. I miss that side of the hobby, which is why I´ve decided to only slowly add to my Khorne Daemonkin, HH Iron Warriors, and to my Imperial Fists. Just a couple models at a time, perhaps a combat squad or a vehicle. I intend to revive this thread with kitbashes again, and focus on what I like most about creating armies: to make each and every miniature have the character it deserves. I have the whole weekend to hobby, so here goes: I present to you my latest stock -ironically, given the previous statement- vehicle, the Mortis Patter Contemptor Dreadnought: Venerable Hannrich Jäger, called 'Aestus' (named by Brother Heinrich) http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpsnpdefbl8.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpshov8w2ki.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpsgquqpgtk.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpsjj13szcr.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpsiqpsnhrd.jpg I decided to make him look like he's walking at a relatively slow pace, moving down whatever infantry he can see. I hope you like him! In addition, I did some long overdue repairs and details to several miniatures I finished before and during the ETL. First up is the veritable Franz Landa, Captain of the Fifth Company of the Imperial Fists. He is, of course, based on the Nathaniel Garro miniature, and had the original sword - which wasn't WYSIWYG as Landa carries a simple Chainsword, but you know, rool of cool. Hidden Content http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/Imperials%20Fists%20Captain%20Nathaniel%20Garro%20Conversion%202_zps1aslh4q6.jpg However, the sword broke off during a recent game, and was beyond repair. So I gave him the DV Dark Angels Biker Sergeant's chainsword: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpsaidtlf2z.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpsoil6kvug.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpsdxxqli4b.jpg Next, the guy I've been getting flak over for a couple months by frater KrautScientist, and rightly so, might I add. The Bloodthirster. I highlighted his face, teeth, and horns, painted his eyes much crispier, and lastly bloodied his mouth. Much better. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/World%20Eaters/temporary_zpsc4lkm17y.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/World%20Eaters/temporary_zpszdyrzrvl.jpg In addition, I gave the eyes of the Soul Grinder some love, with VMA Light Sea Blue eyes followed by a GW Drakenhof Nightshade wash... Ironically the anle of this shot doesn't even show the light eyes, they're that sunk in their respective sockets... http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/World%20Eaters/temporary_zpshdjzwomd.jpg And lastly, someone pointed out that the barrel of the iron Warriors Typhon looked far too new. So that is now fixed. Thanks! http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Iron%20Warriors/temporary_zpswwdbzsxw.jpg So there. I'm now off to painting the second dreadnought in my second Imperial Fists Expansion IV vow: an Ironclad with a Chainfist and Heavy Flamer. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpst72ce3dn.jpg I hope you like! KrautScientist
That's a fantastic update, buddy! Excellent work all around! That Bloodthirster, though: That guy simply takes the cake for me! I now feel completely vindicated about pestering you RE: the face: It's looking absolutely fabulous now, which really transforms the entire model for me! It also seems like the highlights on the red armour plates came out much better in these new photos, making it much easier to appreciate the depth you have managed to achieve on the armour. Keep up the fantastic work! And here's to the upcoming 100th page of this amazing thread! :) Augustus b'Raass 1 Back to top

Augustus b'Raass
Alright, I'm finishing up the last touches on the Ironclad dreadnought right now.In the meantime, I also went back to the Contemptor, above, and changed his pose. It just wasn't really really wasn´t working for me, as it had an ambling gait -where the left appendages move forward and backward at the same time, and vice versa for the right appendages). This isn´t normal for humans (and most animals, actually), so it feels awkward in a walker with a humanoid form. I made the same mistake with my Night Lords assault contemptor Cilice Macelarius, and I still regret it. That time it couldn´t be fixed because of the arms, but this Imperial Fists contemptor has the same weapon arms, which are also magnetized. So I just had to rework the abdominal armour a bit and twist his torso and his helmet. Hey presto!I hope you like!http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpsvku9omql.jpghttp://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpsvpsfh5fq.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpsi29x5pwh.jpghttp://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpsxvqeqbis.jpghttp://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpslp8xdls9.jpgThanks for looking and your feedback!Replies!@ Skrundle87: Do you mean Captain Eight Legs? He's meant to represent a Lord of Skulls, but thanks anyway! @ Viridia: Cheers, buddy! Yeah, even without that black sword, he looks like a total boss!@ Uveron: I think so, perhaps a Khornate character on a Juggernaut.@Andvarr A: Thanks, Andy!@ KrautScienist: Hurray, approval! But seriously, I'm glad you noticed and mentioned the armour details, as I was quite satisfied with the thrister overall. It's just that my light box and especially my phone camera just can't handle such a large and complex kit, so most detail is out of focus on the original pics.@ fire golem: No , Sherlock! Herp derp. Would you mind putting the Landa pic in hidden brackets? I'd appreciate it!
