So I have reached my bandwidth limit from Photobooth, so I have created a gallery with some of my WIP and complete photos. It is titled Iron Lord of Skulls. Please take a look. Thank you.

Here is the skull dozer blade for my Iron Lord of Skulls. Been waiting since Christmas to put him together.

From the thread name, i am guesiing it will be an iron warriors version?

If so, then i will follow with interesr.
13.jpg

The 40k fluff explained to an outsider:

Some space elves got really into drugs and sex and a big scary monster got born that ate them.
A space wizard got beaten up by a guy who said he was his friend but wasn't and now he's on a life support machine and people worship him because he was super awesome.
Now there are giant men with rocket launcher machine guns and 4 hearts and are really super awesome who beat up everything.
Also there's a bunch of aliens but they don't really do anything and aren't as cool as the rocket machine gun super men, so who cares?

Those skulls looks amazing, it must have taken ages to get them to this state...

Thx for the comments so far. Yes, it will belong to my Iron Warriors XVIIth Grand Company.

The skulls really didn't take long. Base coat with Screaming Skull, shaded with Seraphim Sepia, and dry-brushed with Praxeti white.

Here is Dæxxos Steelweaver constructing the rear treads.

Looking forward to seeing this thread progress. I have mixed feelings about the kit itself, but I do want one. Seeing one done in proper Iron Warriors colours will help me decide how soon I'm saving my money for one.

The way that Warpsmith looks, I'm excited to see this.

Here is the main body assembly. The spine cover piece did not go on flat. I wish there was a brace or somthing on the inside to help hold the sides in place. The treads aren't exactly flush on the ground.

Looking at the kit, it's an insane model. I can see the Khorne symbols being easily converted to Olympian Skulls, should you want to put in the required effort.

Great progress so far, and looking forward to seeing the beast finished.

It's madness to think about a $160 model this way, but those treads look like they'd make great conversion bits for CSM tanks and transports.

Dæxxos inspecting the night shift's work. "Ummm...there is a problem here!"

I assembled the pedestal in the wrong direction. Super glue is too strong to break. I hope this won't effect the rest of the assembly too bad.

I should have it fully assembled by the end of the day. The only thing I have to do today is eat lunch and run to the post office. But I do have to work on my other project that arrived on Valentine's day.

1b037b0934f0691ba2364e731ddd9dea.jpg

Every piece is so warped, I am going to have to warm up each piece and fit it together. I may have to forgo painting the inside. The weather is supposed to warm up tomorrow, so I need to primer it tomorrow.

So here is the early evening update. I am painting as I assemble so some of the nooks and crannies are easy to get at.

Absolutely love the progress photos - hilarious, and great to see it shaping up so nicely. I'm guessing you'll still be picking out the Khorne symbols?

Thanks for the comments. I am going to leave the Khorne symbols in, even though the Iron Warriors don't worship any of the Chaos Gods, they do use them when necessary.

This is a great thread. Sucks about your assault ram. Also, not sure If this is the right place for this, but could you post up some pics of your terrain somewhere? it looks really nice and I would enjoy seeing more of it. nbd if you don't it just looks nice!

Wowzers, that is some spectacularly bad warping on your Caestus assault ram- I hope your warpsmith is able to recitfy the situation for you.

With the upcoming release of the Imperial Knights- have you considering holding off on using the lord of skulls torso or weapons for those from the knight kit?  The new battle cannon the knight comes with might look pretty spiffy as a substitute for the skull cannon (and less khornate which helps) with a bit of pinning and finagling.  Just a thought.

I thought I would have it complete by the end of the day, but several life events took over for about 4 hours yesterday, have another interruption this afternoon, but all morning I am concentrating on the upper torso.

I will re-warm the assault ram today and probably glue the miseriecorde's together, I am not going to paint the inside. The Warpsmith should have beat it into place overnight.

I will try to get some shots of my terrain, most of it is standard GW buildings, primered but unpainted. I have a few fish tank pieces that enhance the table. More to come.

I haven't thought about kitbashing with the new Knight Titans, my son and I are looking to get one each, so we will see what is left over. I do like the skull canon, I have an awesome plan to paint it. My Dark Angels need a super heavy on their side now.

It was Insane Psychopath's Lord of Skulls that put me over the edge to buy one myself.

Yeah, my issue is that I'm doing mine for my Death Guard, symbolise the corruption etc. - so unsure as to whether to remove them overtly, or keep them...

Removing the symbols will be pretty hard. The Khorne symbols on the treads will be easy to remove, but some of the others will be harder. If you have Nurgle symbols that will easily fit over the top, then that will work. Otherwise, there will be lots of scupting and finagling to do.

Milliput to gap fill the smaller khorne symbols, sand smooth, followed by Mr. Surfacer 500 or 1000 and another round of sanding will lead to an almost completely smooth surface free of khorne symbols.  Perfect for you to then sculpt nurgle icons onto!

So here is my Wednesday update. This beast is a lot more tedious to paint than I thought. Hoping to have torso attached to tank by this evening, just a few small details to complete.

I feel your pain about the assault ram, mine was badly warped as well. Had to sink the parts in boiling water several times and ever after that needed rubber bans to get the pieces to stay together long enough for me to get them glued.

Your Lord of Skulls is coming along very nicely, almost makes me want to revise my opinion about the model! Still can't quite get over the fact that it resembles a toy me and my brothers played with as kids, though.
