@ Shadow Guard: Cheers SG :smile.: Looking forward to reading your own entry (and no excuses! )

@ Isiah: Thanks mate!   It's had a bit of a rewrite from it's earlier incarnation, mainly to the Organisation section but I also changed the base colour from white to grey (white seemed a bit bright for a shadowy chapter called the Night Watch :smile.:). Might paint up a squad for the ETL, either to use as allies for my Sword Bearers or as part of another project I'm working on....

ORIGINS

The Heralds of Devastation are officially counted among the Chapters of the
23rd, or Sentinel Founding of the late 37th Millennium, a fact that has been
questioned several times by Imperial historians and Administratum Adepts. The

inconsistency stems from official Fire Hawk combat records listing the Heralds

participation and engagements in the turmoil of the Age of Apostasy more than

1000 years prior, leading to several claims that the Heralds belong to the Cursed 21st
Founding, their constant bad luck lends credence to these claims. When
questioned on the matter by Administratum Adepts for clarification, the Grand
Master of the time replied, “It does not matter how long we have fought the
enemies of mankind, it only matters that we still do”.

As a Successor Chapter of the Angels of Absolution, The
Heralds of Devastation also share in the belief that the actions of the Dark
Angels at the Fall of Caliban, leading to its destruction, have absolved them
of their guilt and that their responsibilities lie in finding and punishing
those responsible, those known to the Unforgiven Chapters as The Fallen.

HOMEWORLD

The Heralds of Devastation homeworld, Tenebrye V, was once a death-world equal
to Catachan, or Caliban of old. The Tenebrye system, located beyond the Exodite
worlds of the Eastern Fringe, contained just one gas giant world with six
orbiting moons. Tenebrye III the largest or the moons was the systems primary
planet and The Imperium’s seat of power, a Hive-world with a population in the billions
that closely matched ancient Terra for it’s size and lunar cycle. Tenebrye II
being the only other habitable planet, was a farm world, renown for its quality
and variety of meats. The Heralds chose the uninhabited fifth moon of the
system, a vicious death-world, to be their home and training grounds.

In the year of 759.M38, the Tenebrye system was besieged by a massive Ork
Waaagh!!!, estimated to have numbered in the billions, as it advanced from beyond

known space. With all three of the chapters Battle Companies, two full Reserve Companies

and more than half of the elite First and Second Companies deployed elsewhere in the

galaxy, Grand Master Naarion sent out a desperate plea for aid to any and every Imperial force
within astropathic range. The system fell quickly, the Heralds were
insurmountably outnumbered, the space battle lost before it began, all of The
Heralds potent and powerful warships were elsewhere in the galaxy. The
remaining companies were split between their homeworld and the two other
habited worlds of Tenebrye II and III and prepared to sell their lives dearly.
The massive Ork Waaagh!!!! steam rolled through the system, every man, woman
and child was slaughtered, not a single soul survived.

Due to the fickle nature of the warp, the plea for aid did not reach the rest
of the chapter for almost 200 years (912.M38). Calling on bonds of friendship
and trust, earned in the Age of Apostasy, Master Baelthan of the Veteran 1st
Company returned to Tenebrye V and its surrounding systems with all remaining
Heralds and three full companies from the Fire Hawks chapter. In a crusade
lasting 89 years that reduced the Heralds of Devastation's numbers to less than
250 marines, the Orks were removed entirely from all surrounding systems, not a
single spore remained. With their homeworld once again in their care, The
Heralds of Devastation set about the arduous task of rebuilding the chapter
under Grand Master Baelthan's command.

It was in the year of 749.M41, that disaster befell the Tenebrye system, again.
This time there would be no reclaiming their home world, or system. Both were
wiped from existence by a new threat to the galaxy, the Tyranid Hive Fleet
later designated Behemoth. The Heralds of Devastation were almost wiped from
history for a second time, struggling to fight an unknown enemy. Making an
unpopular decision, Grand Master Decius, the third Grand Master in as many
weeks, commanded the remaining 147 marines to cut and run for Macragge and warn
the Imperium at large. Again, betrayed by the warp, The Heralds of Devastation
did not arrive until the Ultramarines had already won Macragge and defeated
Behemoth.

Since the second loss of their homeworld The Heralds of Devastation have become
a fleet-based Chapter. They constantly patrol the Imperium's border along the
Eastern Fringe, particularly the Damocles Gulf, as in their experience it is
where they are needed most. They are in almost constant warfare with the Tau,
ranging from small skirmishes to all out conflicts.

TRAINING AND RECRUITMENT

The methods of recruitment and training used by The Heralds of Devastation are
a closely guarded secret, known to none besides Supreme Grand Master Azrael,
Lord of the Unforgiven Chapters, and perhaps Ezekial, Keeper of Secrets. The
practice of Replicae is a hidden and disliked technology most of the Imperium
would like forgotten. Rather than clone the complexity of a fully mature space
marine, The Heralds of Devastation clone human male children. The Heralds have
several facilities located on or near Imperial Death Worlds along the Eastern
Fringe where clones are vat-grown to a comparable age of 5yrs Terran standard.
From the moment they are 'born' they are trained to be space marines, by space
marines in the most arduous of conditions, on the most terrifying worlds The
Heralds can find. They are psycho-indoctrinated into the Chapters history and
beliefs, they are trained to fight in both armed and unarmed combat. They
endure 5yrs of arduous and perilous, life threatening training and chapter
education before they are ready for the implantation process to begin. Although
clones of even beginnings, many fail and as little as 10% proceed to the
implantation stage. All clones are known by a number designation until
graduation from the Scout Company, when they gain the right to wear Power
Armour, they given the right to choose for themselves a name from the Chapter’s
Book of Heroes.

Stemming from this unique training and recruitment practice, is two significant
deviances from the organisation and beliefs of their parent chapter, The Dark
Angels. The first concerns when a marine first learns of The Unforgiven's
shame. Due to the early age, and much stronger indoctrination, it is at the
rank of Sergeant that a marine first learns about the Legions legacy and his
role in restoring the Chapter’s honour. The second is due to the desire to keep
their recruitment process secret, none are permitted to show their face to any
outside the chapter, only the Grand Master holds the right to do so. To this
end all marines deploy with a full-face ballistic mask should combat
necessitate or force the removal of their helm.

CURRENT DEPLOYMENT

The Heralds of Devastation currently have all 10 companies
fully deployed in the Damocles Gulf against the Third Sphere Expansion of the
Tau Empire. Having lost their home world twice to vile xenos, The Heralds of
Devastation harbour as special hatred of all xenos, and actively seek for opportunities
to engage in mass assaults where they can bring their full numbers to bare.

FLEET ASSETS

The Heralds of Devastation maintain a modest fleet of 2 Battle Barges, 6 Strike Cruisers

and 5 Escort class ships. The Flagship of Grand Master Decius is the INVIOLATE RAGE,

a Dark Angels vessel lost in the turmoil of the Horus Heresy. In 510.M39 The Heralds of

Devastation were tasked with an archeotech reclamation mission for the Mechanicum of

Mars. The initial scans of the Space Hulk THE INEVITABLE DOOM revealed, although

severely damaged, the INVIOLATE RAGE was salvageable and upon completion of their

duty to the Mechanicum, it was prised from the hull of the space hulk. It took 49 years for

the Techmarine of the chapters Armoury to restore it to its former glory, and ready for combat
deployment. Deep within the holds of the INVIOLATE RAGE a priceless discovery was made

during the repairs, a cache of ancient armour marks and a functional Comtemptor
class dreadnought chassis.

CHAPTER LIVERY

The Chapter's symbol is that of a mushroom cloud, an ancient Terran symbol of devastation

The Heralds of Devastation's Livery varies little from it's parent Legion, The Dark Angels, the

one distinct variation is the company badge. Rather than worn on the knee, it is displayed

boldly upon the entire lower left leg with the squad designation placed on the opposite knee.

Below we see Company Master Variel of the 4th Battle Company, and Veteran Bathos of the 1st Company, The Hunters,

COMBAT DOCTRINE

The Heralds of Devastation make use of both the Deathwing and Ravenwing
formations, but not as two companies but one, The Hunters. This tradition
started after the reclamation of their original homeworld, when Grand Master
Baelthan chose his successors to the 1st and 2nd companies.

In a situation that has never repeated itself, the cloning
process created twins, two clones within the one vat. Why the Apothecarion
allowed this anomaly to continue is unknown, but had they been terminated, two
of the chapter’s greatest warriors would never have existed. The two true brothers
could not have been more different, which made them unique in an army of
clones. The first, larger than most, Brother Vespire was very deliberate in his
movements and decisions, when his course of action was decided, none could
stand in his path. His brother, Thorin, quick to decide, quick to act, had a
natural ability to choose the best options to maximise success, with what
seemed like little thought. It was during the crusade of 912.M38 to reclaim
their home system that Master Baelthan had the opportunity to witness Vespire
of the 1st and Thorin of the 2nd working their squads together in several joint
missions. There was total cohesion, it seemed as each knew the others thoughts
and would react to each other’s developing situations, typically resulting in
victories where defeat was almost certain. Upon the conclusion of the campaign,
Grand Master Baelthan named Vespire and Thorin both to be his successors, and
reformed the decimated 1st and 2nd companies into one new company
named The Hunters.

Due to the chapter’s history of annihilation at the hands of
first the Orks, and then the Tyranids, they have developed a propensity to
engage at close quarters wherever possible. To this end, it has become common
practice among the Battle Companies of the Chapter to equip a third Assault
squad in preference over a sixth Tactical squad, quite often Company Command
will also deploy with Jump packs to further facilitate the assault capabilities
of the Company. The Heralds of Devastation have quite rightly earned a fearsome
reputation amongst the Tau Fire Warriors of the Damocles Gulf, who are struggling
to develop a consistent counter tactic the rapid and vicious assaults mounted
by the Heralds of Devastation.

NOTABLE ENGAGEMENTS

The Heralds of Devastation have a long and proud history of defending Mankind from it's enemies.

811.M37 The 7th Black Crusade of Warmaster Abaddon

The Heralds win a decisive navel battle against the Black Legion, denying them

access to the Forge World of Sanctia.

573.M38 The Defence of Antecanis

The Word Bearers are fought to a grinding holt on the Hive-World or Antecanis,

preventing their plans to open a hell-gate in the slums of Hive Primaris.

759.M38 The First Defence of Tenebrye

The Heralds of Devastation's homeworld is beset by an Ork Warghhh!!! of unsurmountable

numbers, theirs and the surrounding systems are lost to the Ork horde.

912.M38 Conquest of Tenebrye

The Crusade to reclaim their home system is a hard fought battle, shoulder to shoilder with

allies from the Fire Hawks chapter. The conquest is successful after 89 years of combat.

519.M39 The Hundred Planet Rebellion

Several Unforgiven Chapters battle for a decade to clear swathe of planets in the

Veiled Region of the Mad prophet Alaric the Subverter and his cultist uprisings.

743.M40 The Storm of Perdition

The Heralds of Devastation discover a Alpha Legion plot on one of their training worlds,

with reinforcments from the Angels of Vengeance the Alpha Legion are routed out

and the training planet spared Exterminatus.

435.M41 The Macharian Heresy

Once again the Heralds of Devastation encounter an Alpha Legion cult, this time whilst on the trail

of Cypher, the most infamous of The Fallen. Whilst attempting to capture Cypher, The Heralds of

Devastation prevent the Alpha Legion from releasing a Zombie Plague.

749.M41 Beheamoth

The Heralds of Devastation lose their homeworld to xenos for the seond time, this time

permanently. Their Chapter keep and many valuable relics are lost.

997.M41 Third Sphere Expansion

The Tau cross the Damocles Gulf, beginning a campaign of conquest. The entire Heralds of

Devastation Chapter redeploys exclusively to the Damocles Crusade.

The Angels are certainly gathering now.... Very exciting.

With the upcoming storm (ETL III) that Captain Semper is about to unleash on us all and a little challenge with the wolves that will accompany it (Titanas Belli) I could like you all to consider participating in these events in your own CHAPTER COLOURS. That way you can include your miniatures in to the booklets

+ + + COMBINE THE BROTHERHOOD OF ANGELS ENTRY WITH THE E TENEBRAE LUX + + +

The Artisan's of Aldurukh are whispering of a possible commemorative award for those who scribe their chapter histories and provide pict captures of their brethren in their chapter livery for the upcoming ETL III contest..... I wonder if that might be true? ... Are these rumours?...whispers from the cogitations of the machine god? or stories carried in the ether by the watchers in the dark,,,, one wonders..... and lets one's mind wander..... :whistling:

Veteran of the Second Company, “Ravenwing”

                      Origin

The story of the Harbingers of Repentance begins in the hostile star clouds of the rarely spoken of sector Beetelgeuse where, in the late M33, the Imperium saw an increase in Xenos encounters. After a millennia and a half of peace Eldar and Ork raiders suddenly began ceaseless assaults the Imperial fleets transporting supplies between worlds, trading fleets began to disappear without a trace and whispers of terrors best unmentioned stirred the shadows.

This far away from the heart of the Imperium of man fleets operated without the massive support of the ceaselessly working forge worlds, and, having worked for centuries not knowing of enemy threats, the mining colonies' worker hives defences were undisciplined and neglected. Only when the plentiful tithes of rare Halonium ore ceased to arrive the Administratum opened their eyes to the events of the area.

But then a millennium had already passed, and the Orks menace had spread throughout the system, only in check due to the improbable fall of the Warlord Mahall Garbachuff to lucky defensive artillery fire of the desperate defenders. The Eldar raiders had turned into Dark Eldar slave hunters and a Necron threat nearby was awakening.

                      Founding

Here, the myriad events occurring leading to the need of additional numbers of Space Marines and consequently the 12th Founding shall not be
discussed. But, the threat of losing the Beetelgeuse segment to the Xenos threats, and several rare Halonium sources with it, was among them; as at the time no force could comfortably stretch its resources to help out in the sector.

The perspective of the Unforgiven to the founding of the Harbingers of Repentance deserves elaboration. It is little known that the 12th Founding occurred only a few hundred years after the recognition of Cypher's Fallen associates on Nova Terra, 104.M35, among the solar systems of Beetelgeuse.

In the early M34 a number of Fallen traces, and even singular evidence pointing toward the presence of Cypher, had led several hunts to the Beetelgeuse sector. All eluded capture as the hunting forces of the Unforgiven were intercepted by xenos fleets. It could soon only be concluded from what was learned during the dark interrogations of captured enemies that a number of Fallen were working on forging alliances with the xenos. Thus, the advent of the Harbingers of Repentance can be considered as a reaction of the Dark Angels to the events in the sector, hidden by the wider interests of the Imperium of Man, and pinning their existence to hunt of Fallen and xenos.

The founding leaders of the chapter were drawn from the First Company, Second Company and Fifth Company of the Dark Angels. This resulted in very similar traditions as their founding chapter, the Dark Angels.

                      Homeworld

Upon the founding of the Harbingers of Repentance a priority task was to seek and establish a home planet. Among the solar systems of Beetelgeuse one particular planet caught the chapter's attention. It was the planet Gatsmaneh, the fourth planet from the central star of the solar system Gulgultha.

Gatsmaneh is a lush death world with ancient forests, deep oceans and vast steppes; and great beasts roam these habitats as primary predators. What caught the eye of the Unforgiven was the great similarity to this planet and the great old Caliban.

The planet had been occupied since the Dark Age of Technology. Old ruins of that age long lost can be found throughout the surface, penetrating through the earth as if through the fabric of time. But the advanced technology once had by the inhabitants is now lost. Late during the Great Crusade the inhabitants were found and reconnected to the Imperium; then only a feudal agricultural society was left on the planet. The small settlements were defended by stone walls manned by the leading Ealdormen's forces armed with ancient las weaponry. The right to use the few plasma pistols and power cuirasses still left was earned by becoming a notable high ranking officer.

With the support of the Imperium's technology a new life sprung up on the planet, as medicine and resupplied weaponry helped the people defend against the great beasts. But after a reinstitution of the, as scans had shown that there was little resources to be mined, the planet was left mostly on its own.

The people on the planet are a stubborn hearted folk, considered dour and silent by visiting traders. As a result of the poverty and the hardships caused by the planet's climate the local culture has progressed towards the no nonsense, where the work for the common wellbeing is highly valued, and wastefulness is frowned upon, even unnecessary talk.

Here the would-be-masters of the Harbingers of Repentance found themselves at home. The traditions of the Ealdromen's clans resonated strongly with the tales of old Caliban – the very anecdotes told even before the Great Lion.

It is unknown whether the prominence of technology on the planet, during the Dark Age of Technology was considered when a home world was chosen for the chapter. Nonetheless, the first chapter master, Orevon, the previous company master of the Ravenwing, had an interest in ancient technology, and often spent time in the libraries of the Rock reading of discoveries of ancient relic technology. Knowing the history of the new home world well, Orevon, soon conducted wide spectrum scans of the whole planet and several diggings in hope of discovering long forgotten archeotech. Found were only suggestions of the previous glory and indications of a highly advanced cloaking technology used to hide the remnants from prying eyes. Until this day the secrets of this cloaking technology has not been unveiled and many secrets lie hidden in Gatsmaneh’s soil. This personal
interest of Orevon's left its mark on the chapter, however, and records suggest several remarkable findings over the years in several parts of the galaxy. This gathering of sought for technology, together with the chapter's silent nature, this has strained their relationship with the Adeptus Mechanicus.

                                            Fortress Monastery

The Harbingers of Repentance’s fortress monastery Eben is found on the largest moon of Gatsmaneh. Here the obtained relic weaponry is stored for the use of the chapter. During the years Eben has been fitted with large fusion engines, massive archeo-shields and Gellar Fields to enable the Monastery to relocate if needed. Impressive batteries provide a defence comparable of the combined power of several fleets. The active core fuels the great machinery on the moon, every day closer reminiscent to a space hulk.

                      Gene seed

The Harbingers of Repentance are a successor chapter descendant of the Dark Angels. Their gene seed is held sacred and monitored for any corruption. As such the blood of the Lion runs hot in the brothers' veins, as uncorrupted as ever. Alike all Unforgiven the Harbingers of Repentance are stubborn, and fiercely loyal to their Brothers.

                      Recruitment

Due to the ancient presence of great beasts on the death world Gatsmaneh, and the common raids in the sector occasionally hitting the Harbingers of Repentance's home world, and their stubborn nature, the local population provide a good number of recruits. Due to the constant action of the chapter, and the number of casualties during the recruitment process, this number is rarely enough. A selected few planets in the Beetelgeuse sector helps the number of available recruits meet the need.

http://poisontail.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/scout-1.jpg?w=470

Harbingers of Repentance Scout

                                            The Screech of the Eagle

The natives of the chosen recruitment worlds all live close with the earth and often share similar shamanistic beliefs. This culture has been incorporated in the recruitment rituals. The boys of the tribes and villages of the planets are all trained in the art of hunting from a young age. The most skilled hunters are picked out at the age of 8 with rituals, tests and competitions. Those deemed qualified then progress to become the warriors of the people who defend the settlements against wild animals and raiders.

Out of these few, the Harbingers of Repentance choose the potential recruits using a psychic monitoring process. Two librarians are given the duty to probe the minds of the boys and observe the skills during the training from orbit. Those with a will and physique strong enough, and maybe even the psyker's flaw, will be chosen for further evaluation. This choice is shared every third time the local sun is in aphelion, when those deemed suitable, if any, are sent dreams of a screeching Eagle leading them into the wild. To receive these dreams is considered a great honour, and a great celebration is held for the Dreamers, feeling the Screech of the Eagle. Following the clues of their dreams the chosen will find the way to the meeting grounds – their first contact with their new brethren.

Combat Doctrine

Being direct descendants of the Dark Angels chapter, the Harbingers of Repentance's combat doctrine is very similar to that of their Father chapter. Particularly famous is the chapter for the use of lightning attack tactics that can end long wars in a few precise blows. These strikes are almost without exception planned and executed with ruthless perfection. However, these tactics often come at a great cost for the “lesser” warriors and civilians involved. This, together with a reputation for running their own agenda has given them a reputation of unwanted allies. There have also been claims of the chapter using horrific torture as a tool in their interrogations...

                      Chapter organisation

The similarity of the Father Chapter can also be seen in the chapter organisation. The first company is very similar to the Deathwing, with all members in terminator armour; the company also contains most of the chapter’s dreadnoughts. Similarly, members of the second company are usually fielded mounted, on either bikes or land speeders. The exact strength of these companies is not the usual 100 man, as for codex chapters – but rather undefined. The rest of the companies follows codex organisation closely.

Remarkable for the company is also the strong presence of the Chaplaincy and Librarium in the company command. Overall the number of chaplains and librarians is significant, as a minimum of two positions of each are permanently designated to each company. This is needed due to the chapter's ferocious chase of Unforgiven and Xenos; indeed, few missions are completed without a dozen or so captives, ruthlessly extracted for any information, and confessions.

                      Armoury

The armoury of the Harbingers of Repentance is wondrous indeed, as the work Orevon began in the beginning of the chapter has continued though the millennia. Among the most commonly used contemporary patterns of armour fascinating antique relics can be found; forgotten patterns of predators, personal shielding technology and venerable patterns of bolt weaponry, plasma- and meltaguns. Yet, the armoury is not a museum of old, but an actively used armoury of several of the greatest weapons the Imperium has fielded. Indeed it is not unheard of that brothers have the honour to don power armour of Mark IV and even Mark III. Yes, what value would these have if they would not be used to smite those who oppose the will of the Emperor and the lineage of the Lion?

A large quantity of reliquary bionics has also been gathered for use by the chapter Apothecarion. It is not uncommon for brothers to be given the honour of carrying these bionics if his wounds gained in battle severely damages him.

                      Relics of Renown

Among the antiques found in the armoury on Eben, some relics are even more unique still. These are singular pieces of armours, tanks and weapons forged for specific battles or awarded the chapter, and its heroes, for great deeds. Among these are:

-the Power Maul of Interrogator Chaplain Uzziel, the Fist of Remorse, which was used to destroy the Chaos Lord Ghaacax of the Soul Burners Legion.

-the uniquely designed plasma pistol, Feller, which incapacitated a Fallen in the hands of the 4th Chapter Master, Hezekiah with a single shot through the spine.

-a combat shield of the name the Swashbuckler's Fate which protects the champion of the 5th company with remarkable potency.

                      Fleet

The Harbingers of Repentance maintain an active role in both defending the Imperium of Man against the threat of Xenos and Hereticus alike. Further, the Great Hunt for the Fallen demands mobility and speed. Thus, the chapter's fleet required to be of a comparatively large size for a chapter of Adeptus Astartes.

In the last decade, a long war of attrition against a wakening Necron dynasty mere few light years from the home solar system of the Harbingers of Repentance has left the fleet severely depleted.

                      The colours of the Harbingers

The power armour of the Harbingers of Repentance is green with the face mask of the helm, and the knee- and elbow pads in yellow. Yellow are also the backpacks. Veterans and sergeants, as well as many heavy weapon specialists, wear robes in white. The Brother's company is indicated by livery on the left knee pad. Squad Markings are in red, while the chapter insignia – a very similar winged sword as their Founding Chapter, is in white.

http://poisontail.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/dark_angels_tactical.jpg?w=470

Harbingers of Repentance Tactical Marine, the same colouring is used by bikers and drivers of the Second Company

Terminator armour and the armour of inner circle members have the honour of bearing yellow armour with green robes. The exception to this is members of the Chaplaincy and the Librarius who wear, black and blue armour respectively.

Mounted troops wear similar colours as their power armoured brethren, but wear yellow robes if rank permits.

Apart from marking members of the combat police, special weapon specialists, the Harbingers of Repentance shun decorating their armour with more than prayers, purity seals and other “simple” honour markings. This is to punctuate the equality of all Brothers in the eyes of the Emperor.

                      Traditions

Fully introduced Brothers remember little of their past. Faces of their old family and friends fade with time as their new identity as Adeptus Astartes grow forth. Still, some memories of their past are tied into their minds so strongly, by emotion and survival, that they are nigh unforgettable. Such are for example the pre-battle rituals of their home planets in Beetelgeuse sector – so similar that they have become an important part of the chapter’s identity, together with the more traditional pre-battle chants of the Space Marines.

In these rituals the brothers chant for the Emperor to embrace their spirits, ask for fortune from the spirits of Brothers passed on and painting their faces with war paint. The rituals culminate in the raising and anointing of the standard(s) that will follow the Brothers to battle.

The number four is considered by the chapter to be a fortunate number – this can be seen in the war paint, usually done in four strokes, and chants, usually repeated four times, among other things. Feathers, especially those of different kinds of birds of prey, are often used as talismans and decorations.

During battle the squads often sing low chants in an almost humming fashion, with the squad leader contra pointing with recitals. The chant is used to fortify the minds of the brothers to adamantium, and to instil fear in the enemy.

                      Battle Cry

Before the sons of the Lion – Repent!

                      Notable Battles

537.M37 – The Harbingers of Repentance's are ordered to staunch a wide spread anti-Imperial uprising on the planet Icartes IX. Leads direct the chapter to the tracks of False Prophet Karl Maronus. The first company strike at the heart of cultist’s cell and successfully destroy the leaders. The local Adeptus Arbites are left alone to calm the
unrest.

004-013.M38 – Joining forces with a defending force of Vostroyan First Born, the Harbingers of Repentance successfully defend a Forge World against the Forces of Chaos. After the Forces of Chaos have been broken, and the chapter has left a trio of commanding officers are found missing.

244.M39 – The Harbingers of Repentance locate a Fallen that has been interacting regularly with a Tau Ethereal and his forces. After a short but intensive combat the the Tau force is massacred and several captives taken for further interrogation. The chapter later receives criticism from Terra for undermining the ongoing negotiations with the Tau.

997.M41 – The First and 4th and 6th Company of the Harbingers of Repentance participate in the Third Tyrannic War beside Brothers from their Founding Chapter, and fellow Unforgiven. Together they are able to destroy a tendril threatening a cluster of major Industrial Planets.

                      The Present Hunt

Currently the three companies of the Harbingers of Repentance are countering an Eldar pirate fleet threatening the home planet of the Chapter. The combined arms of the first, second and eight companies defend three Hive Worlds against the vanguard forces of the Waaagh!! of the Ork Warlord 'Urghnould Blakkangur that is threatening to penetrate into the Imperium's heart.

Notable Members

Chapter Master Orevon was the first Chapter Master of the Harbingers of Repentance. Affecting the choice of homeworld and building the Fortress Monastery his influences formed the character of the chapter and the path it would take.

The current Chapter Master Zepaniah is a silent man carefully planning all moves to the smallest detail, yet a still eternal fervour guides his actions. These characteristics combined with the ability to fearlessly make controversial and costly choices to ensure the greatest efficiency in battle makes him on of the greatest chapter masters the Harbingers of Repentance has seen to date.

Master Librarian Giles currently heads the Librarius. Giles is a psyker of great power, but also a compassionate man that always understands the human factor in events. This makes him a great complement to the Chapter Master, able to show Zepaniah a very different perspective on most things. The chapter’s violent methods weigh heavy on him, but knowing of the duty it is a weight he carries stoically.

Interrogator Chaplain Tsayad is a true legend of the chapter, and a hero most chaplains of the Unforgiven have heard about since he fell by the whips of a Dark Apostle of the Dark Prince during the final Battle of Blood Fang Nebula. During his day he earned three black pearls, and greatly developed the interrogation methods used by the Unforgiven.

The ETL AND the BA have started. This has now become a triple competition for those so inclined. The following from Shadow Guard is for those who wish to take part in the ETL as well.

E Tenebrae Lux III & the Brotherhood of Angels

As you know, Captain Semper has opened the gates for the ETL 3 competition and the Unforgiven are mobilising fast. Take this opportunity to paint up your own DIY chapters and submit them to the ETLIII competition.

When your final submissions for the BHoA is completed feel free to include images of your models in your DIY chapter colours to be added to a 2-4 page gallery withing the PDF. This will require the following:

 • A photo of your entire DIY chapter collection regardless of how big or small they are
 • A photo of each character, squad (with dedicated transport) and vehicle you have
 • Name each squad and character. You may wish to add additional history or details all of which will be included in the PDF.

Well done to all brothers on your completions, its been a pleasure and fun reading through them. :wink.:

I, Codriel, chapter master of the Angels of Revelation, in the name of the Lion, declare my oath fulfilled.

Would of loved to do more but had to draw the line somewhere. Maybe some future additions will be added one day. If at the end of the ETL3 I have any completed models to add I will do so.

I took the liberty of making a pdf already, sparing poor SG from at least 1 duty as the task is a very large one!

Below are some single page samples.

Cod, that is absolutely stupendous product! Just brilliant and thank you very much. The quality is so far ahead of what I made as an example!

Thank you very much also for thinking of reducing my work load ...but ...now see what you've done! I've got to make all the others up to the same standard!!! :blush.: :cool.:

The talent that's floating around among the FIRST LEGION continues to constantly surprise me!

 • GENE-SEED (PREDECESSOR):- Dark Angels (Angels of Absolution)
 • FOUNDING:- 11th
 • CHAPTER MASTER:- Astaroth Krytic
 • CHAPTER WORLD:- Invalice Prime
 • FORTRESS MONASTERY:- Dimmu Borgir
 • MAIN COLOURS:- Black, Silver and Dark Green
 • SPECIALITY:-
 • BATTLE CRY:- "By the sword in my hand!"
 • CURRENT STRENGTH:- Estimated 1076 active
 • KNOWN DESCENDANTS:- None
 • Chapter Name: Angels of Shadow

Origins:

The Angels of Shadow were created during the 11th Founding from the gene-seed of the Angels of  Absolution and therefore are of the lineage of the Dark Angels and Lion El'Jonson. The training cadre was led by a group of veterans from the Angels of Absolution's 1st and 2nd Companies, under the command of the then 1st Company Master.

The Angels of Shadow spent their first three centuries assisting their parent Chapter as they built up strength and developed tactics. It was these early days that would later influence the Chapter's favour with the Land Raider when they were used to fill the void left by missing Predator tanks, the Predators having been lost in transit to the Chapter.

It was at the dawn of the fourth century of their existence that Invalice Prime was found, a planet right at the very edge of Ultima Segmentum, while the Angels of Shadow were following a lead on possible Fallen activity. What they found was an ancient fortress of the Dark Angels Legion, sealed since the Heresy. Within was contained all manner of ancient war machines and weapons, most importantly a Forge of the ancient Legion. While most of the items contained were handed over to the Dark Angels themselves, the Angels of Shadow were allowed to keep a supply of vehicles and weapons, in addition to being granted ownership of the fortress. It is said that a Fellblade was kept within the fortress's vaults, but it is more than likely the super heavy tank was handed over to their progenitors.

After settling into their new home, the Angels of Shadow set about consolidating their hold on Invalice Prime. New recruits were taken from the local populace for the first time, and the Chapter began to assimilate the local culture. The time of the Angels of Shadow had truely begun.

Chapter Home World:

Invalice Prime is a feudal-world by description, being covered by two vast continents. The northern continent is covered in dense forest, occasionally broken up by open plain and agricultural regions. The primary base for non-Astartes military forces is located nearby the Capitol city of Nemesis, a massive complex that houses both training facilities for the Planetary Defence Force and the Chapter Auxilia as well as the Headquarters for the Invalice Astra Militarum Regiments. Nemesis itself is a modest city, covering the area a Hive would but being restrained to the surface of the world. The architecture of Nemesis has a distinctly gothic feel, but with sword, dragon and knightly motifs worked into almost every detail. There is but one statue of The Emperor on the entire planet, standing central in the great Imperial Square in the very place He is said to have first stepped onto Invalice millennia ago. The reason for there being only one statue is that the people feel that His presence would be diluted with multiple effigies and that one would better serve as a receptor of His majesty and light.

The southern continent  is a barren wasteland, blackened rock and decimated ground stretching as far as the eye can see. Vast magma fields dot the landscape, spewing forth the glowing emerald rock that characterises the planet. This land is inhabited by the enormous reptilian beasts, likened to the Dragons of ancient Terran myth. Far from noble creatures of magic and awe, these are dangerous, intelligent and powerful beasts that can eviscerate a man with but a slash of talons and fell even Astartes with powerful jaws, not to mention the species that have the ability to project flame from their maws.

At the very southern pole lies the Chapter Fortress, Dimmu Borgir. It is a gargantuan structure, defined by its tiered design and built into the largest mountain of the south, Amon Amarth, and made from the unique emerald stone taken from the flesh of the planet itself.

The people of Invalice favour the sword as a weapon, axes and hammers being seen as tools rather than implements of war. Upon reaching the age of adulthood all must forge their own blade as a rite of passage, the style of the weapon being a reflection of one's personality; A rapier wielder would more than likely be a noble individual who strives for order and discipline while one who uses a greatsword would be seen as strong, brash and favouring action over words.

Present Activities:

At the opening of the 41st Millennium, the Angels of Shadow are conducting actions against the Tau Empire as well as combatting the Tyranid threat.

Battle Honours:

- Battle for Obsidian Gate: Joining forces with the Angels of Absolution, the two Chapters repel a Ork WAAAGH! from the Finley Sector. At the region known as Obsidian Gate Shadow Lord Aradiel brings the WAAAGH! to an end by caving in the Ork Warboss' skull with his crozius.

Chapter Organization:

Codex Companies - III to X

As per the Codex Astartes, the Third through to the Tenth Company are standard Companies in terms of their style of warfare; the 3rd, 4th and 5th are Battle Companies, the 6th and 7th are the Reserve Companies, the 8th and 9th Companies are Assault and Devastator respectively and the 10th Company is of course comprised of Scouts. Where they differ from the norm is that each Company holds a certain Rank within; where the members of the 10th Company are the junior Neophytes of the Chapter learning the ways of the Astartes of the Chapter, the 3rd Company holds veterans of dozens of campaigns whose next step is to be inducted into either the Blade Brethren or Dragon Riders.

2nd Company: Dragon Riders-

The 2nd Company of the Chapter are known as the Dragon Riders. They operate in the same manner as the Dark Angels' Ravenwing, a mobile company mounted on bikes, attack bikes and Land Speeders as well as utilising Nephilim and Dark Talon fighters.

1st Company: Blade Brethren-

The illustrious 1st Company of the Angels of Shadow are a force not to be underestimated. Clad in the powerful Tactical Dreadnought armour it is the task Blade Brethren to take out enemy leaders, capture Fallen and shatter enemy battle lines.

The members of the Blade Brethren are the most senior veterans and heroes of the Chapter, as with any Chapter serving Him on Terra. Expected to take on odds than any normal Company would never consider, they are the armoured fist of the Angels of Shadow and in turn the Inner Circle.

Each Squad is comprised of brethren who have each attained the rank of Knight and are lead by a Blade Master.

Battle Honours/relics/decorations/awards:

At a glance, the naming of their ranks and squads might seem to be of a questionable nature but nothing could be further from the truth. The name of Company Master is Dark Master, this is not out of fear but respect. The people of Invalice tell of the Master of Darkness and His Angels with wings of fire, a being of such power that daemons cowered in fear from his might. This is in fact a culturally influenced reference to the Emperor and the Dark Angels, during the Great Crusade. The Angels have unique names for the majority of their ranks and positions and are as follows:

Scout – Neophyte

Devastator – as is

Assault – Sky Walker

Tactical – (Rank)-Knight

Sergeant – Depends on Squad. Tactical, Assault and Devastator Sergeants remain the same, Blade Brethren Sergeants are Blade Masters, Dragon Riders Sergeants are Drake Master.

Blade Brethren Member - Blade Brother

Dragon Riders Member – Drake Brother

Chaplain – Dark Lord

Interrogator-Chaplain – Shadow Lord

Librarian - Brother-Scholar

Company Master – Dark Master

Chapter Master – Master of Shadows

Combat Doctrine:

How they fight. Deathwing & Ravenwing in use?; Armor Heavy?; Specializations?; Intolerances?

Battle Cry:

"By the sword in my hand!"

Home World:

Invalice Prime

Local rituals: Any rituals in their home world/base.

Beliefs:

As they were created and trained from the stocks of the Angels of Absolution, the Chapter has adopted their view that their members should harbour no guilt concerning the Fallen for it is belongs to the Fallen alone, but have the sacred task of bringing every one of those traitors to justice.

Something that was introduced from their homeworld's culture is the view that the sword is the weapon of the honourable. Thus the Angels take a personal insult when they see foes such as the twisted Dark Eldar or traitorous Astartes wielding such weapons, however they view the craftworld Eldar as honourable warriors worthy of wielding the sword in battle. Even the Orks, as primitive and barbaric as they seem, have a sense of honour that the Angels of Shadow recognise.

Gene-Seed:

Dark Angels via Angels of Absolution. Slight malfunction of the Melanchromic Organ and Ossmodula resulting in brethren developing pale skin and developing into taller but leaner figures compared to other Chapters. This is especially prevalent in recruits drawn from Invalice Prime, a fact Chapter Apothecaries are unable to explain.

Champions of the Chapter:

Master of Shadows: Astaroth Krytic

Widely regarded as the greatest Chapter Master since the days of Draconis Umbra, Asmodeus is a true Astartes. A master marksman, swordsman without peer and a tactical genius, many actions spearheaded by the Chapter have been accredited to him. He openly speaks with his battle-brothers, partaking in training exercises and leading Chapter celebrations. Asmodeus is respected and admired by his fellow Astartes, and he considers himself a superior in rank only for all Astartes are brethren in equal stature in the eyes of the Emperor and the Primarchs.

Dark Master of the Blade Brethren: Valac Hel

Before taking up the mantle of Dark Master of the Blade Brethren, Valac served in the 4th Company's Command Squad. Under his command the Squad earned many victories and gained a reputation on par with that of the 3rd Company's Command Squad. It was on the hive world of Ronos VII that Valac and his Company won their greatest victory, a single Company against an onslaught of twisted Dark Eldar. Many fell that day with weapons drenched in xenos blood, some of those who survived were elevated into the 3rd Company while Valac and his Command Squad joined the Blade Brethren. Eventually Valac would rise though the ranks and was eventually granted the command of the 1st Company as Dark Master. Since being granted the Command of the Blade Brethren, Valac has earned many more commendations as both a warrior and a leader, such as personally slaying a Swarmlord or leading his Company in the capture of no less than eight Fallen.

Dark Master of the Dragon Riders: Bathin Uziel

Bathin is a man who is often described by those outside the Chapter as brash and arrogant, even foolhardy. The truth is he knows full well the abilities of his Company, only committing his forces where victory is assured, and committing a force that is no less than is required to achieve that victory. A proud man, Bathin rides at the front of his force on a bright silver and emerald Mk XIV jetcycle that was a gift from the Dark Angels.

3rd Company: Kronos Nightshade

Kronos is the youngest Astartes to ever hold the rank of Dark Master within the Chapter. Other than the Supreme Dark Master, Kronos is the only other current Dark Master that was recruited from the Invalice, a fact he bears with pride. His weapons are of a quality matched by few weapons in the galaxy. His plasma pistol was crafted by the Angels of Shadow Master of the Forge when Kronos was awarded command of the 3rd Company and is widely regarded as one of the finest of it's type to be created. The sword he wields is contains large amounts of the emerald metal of Invalice, sharpened to a monomolecular edge. His commendations and awards are matched only by the Supreme Dark Master himself, and it is rumoured that Kronos is to be Asmodeus' successor. For now Kronos leads the veteran 3rd Company, warriors that many believe are on par with any other Chapter's 1st Company.

4th Company: Orias Fellblade

Orias is known as The Hammer of Angels, his signature beaked thunder hammer having tasted the blood of scores of heretics, xenos and mutant alike. A particularly ruthless warrior, Orias would never retreat so long as victory is possible. Always leading from the front, he smashes aside foes with his loyal men slaying with disciplined bolter fire, deadly heavy weapons and combat blades.

5th Company: Caim Mordechai

Caim is “the calm one” of the Dark Masters, choosing to study a situation before committing his men to war. His tactical acumen is nigh unmatched, every strike he commands hitting weak spots that others might have never seen and breaking forces with a handful of squads. His lightning claw and plasma pistol combo has ended the lives of many foes, each slain in a way that baffle friend and foe alike. His most famous victory was against a Eldar Autach, where after causing a series of seemingly random incisions with his lightning claw Caim caused the Eldar warrior to lose control of his limbs and fall to the ground bleeding out from severed blood vessels.

6th Company: Ose Nel

As commander of one of the two Reserve Companies, it is Ose's duty to make sure his warriors are practised in fighting a multitude of different foes and to employ countless different strategies. The 6th Company is the last stop before a Battle-Brother is accepted into a Battle Company, and Ose makes sure that each Astartes that received that award has earned it.

7th Company: Bune Severus

Bune carries the shame of being a relation to a former Librarian who fell to the Ruinous Powers, and thus he seeks to expunge that shame by providing the greater Chapter with Tactical Squads that are a literal embodiment of the term. As such, Bune is renowned for his adherence to the tactics in the Codex, preferring the tried and true tactics and discouraging spur of the moment decisions.

8th Company: Asmodeus Tancred

The members of the 8th company each bear marks of shame, and yet none outside of the Chapter know of it's significance. While the loyalty of the young Assault Marines is without question, the Company has more Chaplains attached than usual. The role of the Chaplains is not to test their loyalty but to ensure the shame of their predecessors does not cause the Company any spiritual damage. Asmodeus himself has a habit of throwing himself into the most dangerous of battles, as if hoping to single-handedly remove the stain on the honour of the company with his lightning claws.

9th Company: Mastema Tancred

Mastema is a artisan in the art of ranged warfare, with but a glance he is able to determine a weapon's range and it's effectiveness against a target. He teaches his Company to never use a weapon against anything it isn't designed to combat, but at the same time to employ it against targets that have minimal defence against the weapon. He organises his squads into dedicated kill-teams, focusing on one type of target with the non-heavy Astartes in the squad being support and spotters.

10th Company: Lucifer Kotor

There is no form of combat, no style of war and no way of destruction that Lucifer has not mastered. Be it stealth ops or running at a gate all guns blazing, he can deduce a strategy for any force so that victory is highly likely when others would proclaim a waste of effort. However, Lucifer knows that victory is never ensured until it is reached and to willingly throw away the lives of men to gain ground is never a sound tactic, and that fact alone places him apart from most other Imperial commanders.

11th company Dark Master: Very interesting take...I love any name that has the word "Shadow" in it!!! :whistling: Well done so far.

May I suggest that you work on getting some SM Painter images to depict your chapters colour schemes and may be even some painted models to add colour.

I require a favour from one more skilled in photoshop than I. I have been unable to create my emblem in photoshop as the only reference image I have is a drawing a friend did for me. Squad markings I can make easily enough, but would some kind soul be able to assist me with my chapter emblem. I can provide the reference image

SAINTS OF THE ANGELS
 • GENE-SEED (PREDECESSOR): Dark Angels (Angels of Vengeance)
 • FOUNDING: 14th Founding
 • CHAPTER MASTER: Saul, Grand Saint of the Angels
 • CHAPTER WORLD: Dohekilich
 • FORTRESS MONASTERY: The Sanctuary of Saints
 • MAIN COLORS: White and Gold
 • SPECIALITY: Quick Reaction Force
 • BATTLE CRY: “For the Glory the Lion!
 • CURRENT STRENGTH: 827 Battle Brothers
 • KNOWN DESCENDANTS: Star Lions, Saints of Macharius

ORIGINS

The Saints of the Angels is one of several Chapters that has been created following the 13th Founding to keep the Inquisition guessing as to where the loyalties of the Unforgiven lie. Founded in the 14th Founding along with several other similar chapters, the Saints appear to counteract the argument that the Sons of the Lion are a secretive, dark, brooding warriors.

At the Founding of the Chapter, the Unforgiven had amongst themselves a number of warriors ready to take command however their minds were not strong enough to bear the weight of the shame of the Dark Angels. With the Ordo Hereticus busy checking chapters of the Cursed Founding for mutation, taint and other acts that would place a chapter at the wrong end of an Exterminatus or Excommunication order. The Unforgiven knowing full well that their secret could lead them into such a predicament, and have been repeatedly placed under close scrutiny by the Inquisition, volunteered to help in the 14th Founding. Their purpose was to raise Chapters that would act counter to the typical beliefs that those tied to the Dark Angels Legion are secretive, untrusting, and even traitorous.

Leading the Saints initially was Daniel, formerly of the Angels of Vengeance. While only a Sergeant in the Scout Company teaching new recruits, his mastery of tactics at the time could not be discounted. His only flaw was that he believed so fervently that the Loyalty of the Dark Angels and its Successors was unquestionable that the mere thought of there being brothers amongst the Traitorous Ones would have broken his mind and will.

As he built up his new Chapter, the Librarians and Chaplains within the ranks retained their knowledge of the Fallen and worked silently behind the scenes. For centuries, they kept the secret only to themselves as the Chapter fought in the name of the Lion without being burdened with the weight of their shame. The ruse worked and soon the Inquisition began to leave the other Unforgiven chapters alone as the new breed of Chapters kept fighting and garnered numerous victories and glory. In time, Masters of the Chapter have been brought into the fold and plans have been established to either capture or notify the Unforgiven depending on their circumstances.

Around the time of the 23rd Founding, the Inquisition and the Saints were on Cordial terms. The Chaplains saw an opportunity to keep a closer eye on the Inquisition and began to train a small number of young Inquisitors. They were trained by members of both groups and in time several would hold fierce loyalties to both the Unforgiven and the Inquisition. They have gone on to help the Unforgiven find a small number of Fallen and to help keep the secret safe from within the Inquisition.

HOMEWORLD

Dohekilich is a system filled with worthless lumps of rock named after some long forgotten explorator. Whatever minerals the system contained had long ago been been extracted leaving vast debris fields. The remnants of a planet has become the home of the Saints of the Angels. Nestled in the core of the shattered world, the Sanctuary is well protected and concealed from wanderers and scavengers searching the debris for anything of value. Only the presence of gleaming white battle barges and other vessels would suggest that this system held anything but death. Even a splinter fleet of Tyranids drifted past the system due to a lack of biomass.

PRESENT ACTIVITES

The Saints of the Angels are currently engaged in three campaigns. One of which is with the Ordo Xenos persecuting a campaign against splinter fleets of Tyranids and more recently the rising Necron menace.

In the second campaign, the Fourth Battle Company along with elements of the First and Second Companies is assisting Astra Militarum and Adepta Sororitas units in quashing a chaos uprising thought to be a splinter group from the 13th Black Crusade led by members of the Alpha Legion. A few traitor marines have been captured for questioning. Some by the Dark Angels and the rest by the Inquisition.

The third campaign has relieved Unforgiven elements on Armageddon in the never ending fight to purge the orks from the planet. Fully one half of the chapter is assisting the efforts to tip the balance in their favor so that the planet may be made secure once again.

BATTLE HONORS

Holding the Line

During the later half of M36, Elements from the Saints of the Angels fought alongside their brethren the Dark Angels and the Angels of Vengeance as well as a number of Imperial Guard Regiments in an effort to put down an uprising of Chaos. In the course of the campaign, both the Dark Angels and the Angels of Vengeance suddenly departed for a remote moon in the system. The Saints of the Angels remained and continued to battle the minions of the Foul Gods. When the fight suddenly went out of the enemy, the Saints moved in to defeat the lesser leaders. Leaving the remaining mop up work to the Guard, the Saints returned to their Fortress Monastery having suffered numerous casualties as a result of the departure of their brethren. Yet they bear them no ill will even after they have left the system.

Breaking the Conclave

An Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus came across an Enclave of Chaos hidden in the Underhive of Seguras Tertius in the Titanus system. Before landing on the planet, a hail had been sent out requesting the aid of the Saints of the Angels. Two squads of Terminators and a squadron from their Second Company responded to the call as well as a contingent of Deathwing led by an Interrogator Chaplain that would arrive at a later time. This unprecedented show of force, not to mention that two Unforgiven Chapters were willing to assist an Inquisitor led to the extermination of the entire Enclave - or so the Inquisitor's report says. Any witnesses to the aftermath have been not been located for further questioning.

CHAPTER ORGANIZATION

The Saints follow the organization of the Dark Angels. Brothers that reach Veteran status are called ‘Saints’ by their fellow brothers and it is then that they continually wear the white robes. The suits of polished white armor are then embellished with battle scenes depicted in the rare gold adamantium. As the Marine continues to gain experience and rank, the amount of gold visible on the armor increases allowing rank to be distinguished by how much gold is on their armor.

The Chaplains have also taken a name change to show their cordial relationship with the Inquisition as the highest ranking Chaplain are called Inquisitor-Chaplains instead of the insidious Interrogator-Chaplain of the other Unforgiven Chapters.

As every veteran is known as a Saint, the 1st Company is also informally known as the ‘Saints’. The 2nd Company has also adopted the informal name of ‘Seraphim’ as they continually act in a communications role as well as a forward scout. The Scouts have also taken on an informal name of the ‘Impure’ or the ‘Unclean”. While it is mostly due to the Scouts acts of concealment and avoiding detection that have garnered their name. Scouts still take it as an unspoken  challenge to improve themselves to be pure in the eyes of their full-brothers.

FLEET ASSETS

The Saints of the Angels have amassed a complete fleet of ships including five battle barges and large numbers of smaller vessels. At present, only two barges are protecting the fortress monastery, while the others are acting as flagships of the Saints of the Angels in their campaigns. The Saints have a large number of smaller craft used to convey troops and materials as well as navigating the debris fields of Dohekilich.

RECRUITMENT

The Saints of the Angels benefit by receiving recruits from older Unforgiven Chapters that the Librarians have deemed unable to bear the shame of the Fallen but are still capable of serving as Marines. The Saints also have a few recruitment worlds they use to replenish their number as well as taking recruits from the worlds they visit.

CHAPTER COLORS

The Saints of the Angels have taken to painting their armor white and polishing it to a brilliant shine before taking the field of battle. Only the Scouts make any attempt at concealment. The Aquilla, weapons, Chapter and Company badges shine out in polished Gold. As a marine gains the veteran status of Saint, they are allowed to embellish the white portions of their armor with more gold.

The one color that is mysteriously absent is the color black. Even the under armor and joints of the marine seem to be in another color, most notably brown. To the Saints of the Angels, black implies that they have something to hide and would avoid the light. The Saints in turn make sure they are visible even on the field of battle. Even the Chaplains of the Chapter seem to remove themselves from the typical black and take up the color of bone.

In a small departure from the Codex, the Apothecaries of the chapter have been given authorization to include more red into their armor to distinguish themselves from their white clad brethren. Most common is a red helmet and/or red gauntlets with helix emblazoned more prominently on their armor or in various other places.

BATTLE STANDARDS OR CHAPTER BANNERS

For being a very visible chapter, their humble nature belies the flamboyantly bright armor. This is reflected in their modest banners. Rare is a banner that depicts a scene of a battle or some other honor and even those that due reflect the honor of another or the glory of the planet instead of the chapter.

The most recent banner depicts Thunderhawk gunships escorting civilian ships away from the planet of Medusa V as it is being sucked into a Warp Rift. The only other embellishments is the Chapter Badge, the Campaign Badge and a roster of the Companies that took part in the evacuation.

BATTLE HONORS, RELICS, DECORATIONS AND AWARDS

The Honors the Saints have received are numerous but one would not know that from the galleries found within the walls of the Chapter. Indeed, the only mention is in the records of any campaign or battle fought as an appendix to the formal battle report or on the armor of a Saint that participated in the battle and thought it worthy to be embellished on his armor.

COMBAT DOCTRINE

The Saints follow the doctrines of the Dark Angels and adapt to any combat role fairly easily. The biggest difference is that once they arrive at the field of battle, they will stay until they complete their mission or die in the process. The greatest asset is their ability to field small units of marines quickly to any system that requests their aid. While companies and materials may arrive piecemeal to a battlefield, they will quickly complement those elements that are already in place.  In this way, they expand their beachhead or will deploy their assets to where they are needed most.

BATTLE CRY

‘For the Glory of the Lion!’

LOCAL RITUALS

In another unusual turn of events, the Chapter has agreed to allow Inquisitors into the ranks to be made into Space Marines in their own right. While nearly all of the genetically enhanced Inquisitors have the seed of Guilliman, the few bearing the seed of the Lion have gone on to have very noteworthy carriers in the service to the Emperor.

BELIEFS

The battle brothers of the Saints of the Angels do not hold to the tight lipped nature of the Unforgiven and are vocal in assisting other Imperial units as to better hone their skills and tactics. However, they are also familiar with operational security and the need to limit information to those who need to know. Only the Librarium, Techmarines and Chaplains are more secretive and mysterious and this is commonly and correctly attributed to their specializations within the chapter. That the knowledge of the Fallen are a secondary concern to them is not a bother as they have other secrets to keep, but they still hold a tight reign on what can be said.

CHAMPIONS OF THE CHAPTER

SotA Master

Nathan - Grand Master of the Chapter
Nathan has served as the Grand Master of the Chapter for several decades but he has known that he was not the first choice to lead the chapter. That honor went to his fellow Battle Brother and Watch Commander Solomon. Though very few within the chapter know this, Nathan has continued on as the though he is the Acting Grand Master until Solomon is released from the Deathwatch or is killed in action. To that end he only ever uses the wargear of the Chapter Master only in ceremonial actions and reverting to his own weapons when he marches to war. In spite of his humility, he has continued to be a very competent commander that has seen the Saints fight on multiple fronts in deferent sectors and still seem coordinated.

Aaron - Grand Master of the Librarians
Within the Chapter, Aaron continues to be an enigma in a chapter that is open by the standards of the Unforgiven and even Ezekiel of the Dark Angels is hard pressed to unlock the inner workings of Aaron's mind. As a young Lexicanium, he was attached to a squad of Deathwatch warriors when they were ambushed by an Eldar force. It was the intervention of a lone warrior that saved them. Aaron knew on site who the warrior was and his history with the Dark Angels, but knew that he could not do anything about it by himself. The warrior even acknowledged him as a Son of the Lion and fought side-by-side during the conflict. Afterwards, Aaron would forever be haunted by that day when Cypher revealed that this was not the first time they met. In his near two centuries of service, he has happened across Cypher a handful of times and in each case has been saved by the gunman. In return, of all the Librarians, Aaron has remained a calm anchor for his brothers in the most pitched of battles almost as if he was bored with the battle and this has inspired his fellow brethren to remain calm under intense pressure.

Judas - Grand Master of the Chaplains
Judas seemed to be destined to join the ranks of the Chaplains since he was inducted into the Chapter. Taking to the teachings the Chaplains gave him with fervor and inspiring his fellow aspirants through the ranks. While being an average fighter in terms of an Astartes, he continually inspires and is quick to recognize the strengths of each individual marine. It was his recommendation to elevate Nathan to Grand Master of the Chapter and several others to Sergeant, Master or Saint. The brothers have long ago recognized Judas's lack of marital skill and have willing stepped up to take on the champion the Chaplain is meant to challenge and have come to his aid repeatedly and the Saints wouldn't have it any other way, for his continued inspiration and ability to read the strengths of brothers has improved the quality of aspirants and has even reduced battle losses.

Seth - Master of the First Company
Seth is great bear of a man and the suits of Terminator armor seems small on him. But his size is small compared to his intellect. He has proven himself a more than capable commander and has deployed his terminators with the utmost efficiency to benefit the chapter. When not in battle, he pores over battle reports so that he can learn all that can be found about his foe. Even the tomes of the Deathwatch failed to satisfy his need to learn how to defeat anyone he comes across. In a twist of irony, he leads the company that is called upon when so little is known and many of the reports he sees are his own.

Eli - Master of the Second Company
Eli arrived at the chapter after the Angels of Absolution found him after a war with orks, battle hardened and with enough tusks to make any ork warlord jealous. His time alone unfortunately made him chatty when he returned to society. The Librarians of the Angels of Absolution deemed him unable to bear the ability of keeping secrets as vital as the Fallen Dark Angels. Eli has continued to serve with great honor to the Saints and his talkative nature has seen him not only act as an ambassador of the Chapter, but also to recover valuable information from those he gets into discussion and has been able to redirect and keep secret that for which the Angels of Absolution thought he could not and it brings a smile to his face whenever he delivers a prisoner over to them. The only thing he enjoys more is hurling insults to orks in their own language and striking them down when they look at him confused.

Solomon - Watch Commander of the Deathwatch
The Saints loss is the Inquisition's gain. Solomon joined the Deathwatch after the incident on Ichar IV in an effort to better understand the Tyranid threat before the arrival of the Hive Fleet. He has gone on to identify lower Synaptic Creatures and the Primes of the Hive Broods with better accuracy in each engagement. He has even had limited success in using a psyker to implant a new synaptic command once the hive mind link is broken so that they fall upon themselves. Recently, he has been tasked to find ways to counter the threat of the awakening Necrons. Under his watch, he could field nearly five full companies of warriors from the myriad of chapters and has earned the respect of nearly all of them and has kept most of those who were there at his elevation alive and only half have returned to their chapters. The rest have vowed a personal oath to stay on to lead and train those who recently took up the oath.

Does anyone have the new Tyranid Codex or 7th Ed. Book to let me know when the Ichar IV incident occurred? I don't want a warrior older than Dante. Anyway, this should finish up the writing for my three chapters. I just need to spend some time with marine painter and ask my wife for money to buy some terminators to paint up.
