Interesting, what IA is the Roc pattern in? I will have to check that out.  As nice as the Vengeance Launcher is, it doesn't seem as useful as the Roc.  Also The Hellstrike missiles are great that they are Ordnance for the pen but sucks that if you shoot them you aren't doing much else lol

Imperial Armour Volume Two Second Edition - War Machines of the Adeptus Astartes which is currently the latest book for 40k Forge World models... all other rules in other books are void if they are found within this book. So IA: Aeronautica, and IA: Apocalypse can no longer be used.

PotMS the Vengeance and fire the Hellstrike Missile normally. Both Eagle patterns have PotMS btw.

Ah, I've found that it's supposed to be Minotaurs only pattern. So I'd have to go against the fluff for it :(.  I do have the rules for the regular one so I knew it had PotMS, it's disappointing that you have to 40 points more for the missiles when the Stormraven gets ones nearly as good for free. If I took Hellstrikes I'd likely shoot two at a time using PotMS to try and ensure a kill.

Not really against Fluff... it is used primarily by both Minotaurs and Red Templars Chapter, the latter a Successor or the Imperial Fist. It was just 1st used by the Minotaurs then the Red Templars got their hands in the design and spread it like the Ultramarines did to our LRC. Gaining more fame as word of it got around.

I wouldn't be surprised to find one in the arsenal of a BT Crusade.

So got some more pics of the magnetized weapons for the Eagle

Here you can see the magnet that will hold the wing mounted weapons in place. Note that because of the difficulty in getting the alignment right on the magnet, the magnets do not "snap" together as they would normally. But since the pull force is nearly a pound on these magnets the proximity is near enough that it's irrelevant.

And a shot of the lascannon in place

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k48/Acebaur/40K/20140422_000157_zpsf1i6anrm.jpg

And finally a shot of how I did the Vengeance Launcher pods

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k48/Acebaur/40K/20140422_000232_zpsoc1mv27s.jpg

If anyone is interested I can go over how I got the magnets in the right places for each part

Next up I'm working on the rear door because the way that it is supposed to "attach" to the bottom of the hull is so stupid I wonder why it ever made it past QC

So a rather large update here. First as I was tidying up the top rear roof piece I noticed this hideous blob of resin

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k48/Acebaur/40K/th_2677baa4-f904-407f-958b-eb53d3f9269b_zpsf2f4a510.jpg

It could not be in a worse place. I did everything I could to eliminate it but I think I'm going to have to paint it as a blast mark and have some battle damage since there is no way to sand it.

Moving on to more things that aggravate the :censored:  out of me about this model :laugh.:

This.

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k48/Acebaur/40K/th_20140423_165222_zpsaqtqp3jp.jpg

See those little things on the bottom of the fuselage? Those U-shaped things are supposed to hold the rear assault ramp in place. Yeah right. Not now, not tommorrow, not even in the 41st millennium. Why they didn't just do what GW does for hinged doors I don't know. But in the same pic you can see I've glued on some styrene  with magnets in them.  On the door itself are a couple more at the corners. These serve two purposes. First, obviously they will hold the door in place nicely.

Secondly they allowed me to do this so I can have the door open while on the flying stand.

That way I can do cool action shots like this one!

Which leads me to my next part. Here are last 3 Vanguard that I've been prepping for the ETL

Thunder Hammer guy, because why not? Points effective? Not likely. Badass? Most definitely :biggrin.:

A regular BP and CCW guy. You can't see it but his chainsword is the one with all the skulls down either side. He's also got a few more skulls scattered about on his armor. Perhaps a future Chaplain?

And finally another SS guy

Group shot!

@greggles: Thanks, yeah I've blown through about 30-40 magnets doing the vanguard, assault squad and the Eagle lol

Glorious! The idea for magnetising the ramp open is just brilliant, an opportunity for some very cinematic shots ;)

The sword brothers with the jump packs look excellent, so much movement! All this makes me want to build some whether I think they would fit in my list or not!

So have a couple of questions I wanted to run by you guys to see what you thought. So I've got a good amount of the BT FW stuff and I was going to use the rhino set for my Storm Eagle. For referene here is the set I'm speaking of.

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Space_Marines/Space_Marine-Vehicle-Accessories/BLACK-TEMPLARS-RHINO-DOORS-AND-FRONT-PLATE-SET-1.html

Here's the problem, the one door on the right has a ton of crusader seals on it. Well to me this ship is space capable so upon reentry those would burn up. Do you guys think that it's silly to have the seals on the door? Should I use the upgrade sprue door with the chains instead? Or am I thinking too much about it?

Going along with that I was thinking about what my Crusade badge is going to be now that it's a different crusade. Originally I had intended to use my avatar but that'd be far to hard to paint and I want something more traditionally shield shaped. So the door on the right has a little shield which is quartered. FW has that shield on a lot of their Templar Stuff and since I have a good amount of FW stuff I thought about doing that as my crusade badge. Here's my problem, I know several of us have quartered shields alread(y and I want to make sure mine is distinct enough.

I also plan to have a fair amount of Armageddon badges in my army as my fluff is that they just fought in that war prior to leaving for the Jericho Reach.

I was thinking that the shield would have the Templar cross up in the upper left like the FW piece does and then in the bottom right there is writing. I'm thinking either "Suffer Not the Unclean to Live" or the quote in my sig about killing xenos. For colors I oringally thought white and red but now since there are several other crusades with that scheme maybe add some black in one of the quadrants?

Thoughts?

If you want to use the forge-world doors I say go for it. I would think the we Templars would mount purity seals made of something that could handle the void or you could just say it's hasn't been through the atmosphere yet. As for the badge, you could do black and white quarters with red cross since your previous badge was a red cross.

Hope that helps

Use the FW doors.  I use them on my storm raven :).

Besides, Grimmy lost pretty much all his seals during helsreach.  They just make more and affix them with new litanies when necessary.

Indeed, it is totally plausible that your SR was adorned with purity seals upon deployment on the planet you are currently fighting on. The only place where it is really hard to justify purity seals is drop pods. And even then, you can paint them as sculpted details instead of actual paper.

As for your badge, there are certainly other ways than quartered to split a shield, even though it is quite common. I like halved designs, either diagonal or vertical. It's easier to paint two half shields than four quarters too

Ok thanks for the input guys. I'll use the cool FW one then.

@Arthanor: I agree, but the reason I was thinking of quartered is bcause that that FW shield is already quartered lol

I think I'll take some time and do a few up in photoshop and get you guys' opinion on it.

Oh, for some reason I thought you wanted to stay away from quartered to be different. You actually want a quartered scheme that stands out..! Let's see...

One thing that would be interesting to consider is having quarters of different colors. Most of the templars here quarter two designs, in a traditional 1,2 / 2,1 badge (from top to bottom, left to right) like DasPanzerIstUber who has red, white / white red.

You can have more than two designs to quarter, doing for example: 1,2 / 3,1, where the first design is repeated at the end to fill up the minimum 4 quarters. So you could have, for example: white, red / black, white. This allows you to have a black templar cross in the upper left corner on white background (keeping Sigismund's original heraldry), then you also have a white background for the writing.

Of course, black may not be the best color for a badge to be painted on black power armor (that's why my badge is white and red), but you could consider something else. Maybe gold/yellow if your crusade has IF allies or to honor the templar's lineage (a common reason to quarter is to combine heraldry from your parents)? Or maybe blue for crimson fists? It could be any color, really.

Another (more complicated) possibility would be to quarter crusade badges instead of just quartering colors (with some icon on top).

Yeah, I was concerned about using the FW shield as my badge because it's quartered and we have several members with quartered badges already. Didn't want to step on anyone's crusade so speak ;)

I thought about doing black, red and white as the colors. To fix the fact that the armor of the tank/marine is also black I could do a white outline around the black portion of the shield. I've done this on several of my Bretonnians's who have the barding the same as one of the heraldry colors and it works quite nicely.

IF yellow is another good option as it's always good to honor your parent chapter. Also since in my fluff my crusade does not have devastator squads I was going to paint up the squad I have in IF colors and run them as allies (it helps that they get tank hunters too :D ).  Also I've made my Honor Guard squad number 7 in honor of the 7th Legion. So yellow/gold could definitely work too. I guess I'll just have to see what looks best.

So the port side wing is almost done. I have the FW decal sheet and I saw the huge crosses for the Rhino hatches and thought. If the rhino has a cross that big, why not the Storm Eagle? :D

Thanks! It actually is, but with the flash on the camera you can't see it. I had to use some paint on it as well anyway because the hatch lines for the rhino needed to be covered up

Alright so I have an update on the Eagle. I'm into most of the detail work now. The weapon systems are all but done, as it the port wing. More importantly one of the single biggest assembly parts is done. The fuselage is glued together.

Here is a shot of the port wing assembly. The only thing left is the thrusters on the wing. Everything is done and ready to go. I also put the two side doors(which are completed) in the shot as well. You can see the crusade badge on the one on the right. I'm thinking that's going to be the scheme for my crusade badge.

The fluff for it goes like this. From left to right each quadrant represents. The Honor of the chapter(white field with black cross), the spilled blood of the enemies of man(red field), the Emperor's color(black), and finally the last quadrant will have the words the crusade lives by. These are the immortal words of Chaplain Emmerich which you can see in my sig, but if often shortened to simply the classic "Suffer not the unclean to live"

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k48/Acebaur/40K/20140504_233116_zpsioc6gd4d.jpg

Different angle of the port wing

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k48/Acebaur/40K/20140504_233129_zpswffzcffp.jpg

So here are the Vengeance missile launchers. I need some advice here. I've painted all the missiles on my typhoon launchers to be straight red. So I had an idea to make these missiles look different from the typhoon launchers. I only did a couple of the tips in white just to get an idea. What do you guys think?

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k48/Acebaur/40K/20140504_233217_zpsafvbyth8.jpg

And finally you can see the fuselage is wrapped up and drying. Also a few finished bits of the cockpit can be seen as well.

I'm not a major fan of the white tips, but the other guys like it. I like straight up red tips.

I'm loving the wings, the weapons and especially the Crusade Badge!

Ace

Great work...my painting skills look like a 6 year with water colors compared to yours

I know how you feel. I get that feeling with everyone around here. :happy.: Which is why I try to make up for that by modeling.  But then Eberious came back.:tongue.:
