That chaplain is ready to go seal clubbin.

But for real, all of those chaplains look beast. I love the lantern on the biker one especially, is that a bit from the teleport homer?

Alright so with the Chaos at the Gates(C@G) kicking off, it's the perfect opportunity to repaint my Emperor's Champion mini which has always been one of my favorites. Something unexpected that I'm also doing is converting it a bit as that is a requirement of the challenge. Technically I could put a Templar pistol holstered at his side and call it a day, but I pride myself on taking crazy ass conversion ideas and making them look good. Sooo....

I did a bad thing... but for a good reason, keep scrolling before you unleash your ZEAL on me :biggrin.:

And here is the good reason

A shot of it attached. I never liked the stock pose and I feel this is much more of a "I'm challenging you!" pose which is more appropriate than his "By the Power of Greyskull!" normal pose.

speaking of conversions, here are some of my latest. These guys will be Honor Guard when they are done.

Everyone remember this guy? I got rid of that comically small shoulder pad and gave him a proper one as well as a proper Templar bolter.  I hate bare headed guys but he's just so cool I'll have to live with it.

Next up I have a head swap conundrum. I can't decide which I like better

The Templar head is definitely a bit larger than normal PA heads so not sure if it looks too big on him.

Finally I've made some changes to the Chapter Champ model giving him a modified shoulder pad and combat shield(<- idea courtesy of M. Barbarosa). Also I gave him a new Templar Brethren sword which fits much better IMO

I like the UM head better. The Templar head just doesn't seem to fit, almost as if it were for a termie.

The chapter champ owns like a boss. I like him a lot.

So I bought some model chain, 27 lpi, based on the Alternative Bitz thread. Seemed really small in the store though. Do you guys mix the real chain with the Templar upgrade sprue? Seems like it might look wonky

Yeah, after getting home and comparing it to a model, the model chain I got is actually exactly the same size as the sculpted chain on the official GW Sword Brethren.

So the next question, which probably isn't even a question, should I put chain on my EC's black sword?

Hmm, I try to end the chain connected to the model at both ends.  Which can be a pain, depending on the shape of the chain and what you're putting it on.  But it emphasizes that the weapon/item/whatever is chained to the model, rather than being just loosely wrapped around a wrist or whatever.

With the shape of those links and the claustrophobic space you're wrapping it around, that approach could be a problem.  But you got some GS skills now, so maybe if you make a simple chain bracelet (like the arms in our upgrade sprue) to glue one end to...?

1. I like the wrapped chain around his arm and weapon, but...

2. I also think you should build the bracelets like FP said and connect them.

He's going to look awesome painted.

Good points all. I guess I should have been more specific. I definitely don't want him to to look like the chain is just draped around his wrist, I guess I was looking more for feedback on the wrap itself.  The chain in the pic is literally just draped on there so I could get an idea of what it could look like. I like the idea of GSing a bracelet which should be very easy to do.

The next question is should the chain just wrap around the hilt or should it actually attach to the sword in some fashion, like to the pommel?

Yeah, I was thinking about exactly that a moment ago.  Grimaldus' crozius looks awesome in how it attached to the chain, but you don't really have room on the sword for something big enough to look right.  The connecting shackle wouldn't be any bigger than the chain, which sounds like it would look awkward.

I did the chain thing on my termies (still only had a smattering of paint) but found that if you make sure the weapon-end of the chain is flat against a suitable theoretical 'anchor point,' or is at least hidden underneath another wrap of its length, it looks perfect. You don't need to see where it connects, you just don't want to see it obviously not-connecting at all! A green stuff bracelet will be a good move on most models, but on the EC I think his gauntlets are too cool to cover up. I'd look for a way to simply hide both ends if possible.
