Third party bases for my new army

Olis

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd pitch this out there, see what responses I get back - I'm looking for third party bases for my Imperial Fists 30k army. Not entirely sure what I'm after - maybe urban, maybe techy, maybe rocky (definitely not alien). I dunno.

Thing is there is so much to choose from, I don't know where to start. confused.gif

I'm a fan of anvil industry's bases. their granite wasteland bases might fit your needs.

For your sergeants and characters try scibor mini's. Their Roman bases woould look sweet with a Fists army

When looking at bases there's no denying that the Dragon Forge have an amazing selection in every size all the way from standard marine to Knight titans in every style you could ever want...

If it's a urban style you are looking for I suggest you take a look at the Urban Rubble Wasteland series as they are perfect for 30k urban bases, I love those thumbsup.gif

Another vote for dragon forge.  Dragon forge is also run by a single guy.  You can actually talk to him :).  He takes suggestions and even has votes and such for upcoming bases on his facebook page.

I often like an eBay trawl for inspiration - what's your price range mate?

It's... open, I suppose.

Hearing these suggestions for Dragon Forge certainly warrants a look. Other suggestions are still welcome. :)

I'm going to cast my votes for Champ Industries, Dragon Forge and Anvil Industries. Here are my Pros and Cons for each:

Champ Industries: Pros: Inexpensive, nicely detailed. Cons: slightly larger than GW bases (27mm as opposed to 25mm), no larger sizes

Dragon forge: Pros: lots of choices for base designs, all sizes available. Cons: none I can think of

Anvil industries: Pros: lots of choices, most base sizes available, bottom is textured so it won't slide. Cons: larger bases (flight/Knight) not available.

The only issue I saw with Champ industries is, unless I missed a link on their page, they only have two styles of base, both industrial looking.

I'm actually surprised only one person has mentioned Scibor Miniatures. They have a ton of awesome bases.

Their models tend to be are on the large side.  I was not sure how their bases would work with 40K. Do they make bike bases and all that as well?

I have used Secret Weapon and Dragon Forge bases before and they are both top notch.  Lots of options with bases in all the sizes you need.

Yes they do: http://sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?group=135

They have 25mm, 40mm, 60 mm, and 25x65mm bike bases. They have some that are big and raised up, and they have others that are more flat. And one they call "fly" bases which would probably be good for Assault Marines. Although not every style has every size base. Seems all have at least 25, 40, and 60, but not all have fly or bike bases.

I for onr will be looking to get this one for a future Minotaurs dreadnaught:

They make great character bases and cool vehicle upgrade bits that match.  I need to go browse their store again but it tends to lead to DWS.  (Deflated Wallet Syndrome)

[edit]

Olisreden,

If I can ever convience my boss that we need a Makerbot, I'll print you up whatever you need :)

I translate that as 'reasonable', which is good :P

There are so many nice ones: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR3.TRC1.A0.H0.Xresin+bases+25mm&_nkw=resin+bases+25mm&_sacat=0&_from=R40

I tend to focus on price - although some of the best I've found come from a seller called fendervox04 on eBay - I'd highly recommend them, great quality - really pleasant fellow, easy transactions. I don't mind paying that much more for something that I know is ideal.

An example of his work:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/25mm-resin-bases-rubble-stone-scenery-Bolt-Action-Perry-Warlord-/261432136247?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item3cde91d237

Alternatively, you might want to look in bulk at something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/25mm-scenic-resin-bases-great-for-WH-40K-x50-great-for-chaos-imperial-guard-/151267220018?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item23383a9a32

Which looks good, cheap as it's in bulk - but depends on what you really want from them!

Or, start casting? ;)

Hah, I wish. I'd probably faff it up.

Check out my earlier link for Basius. You can "make your own bases" but don't need to cast. Just the standard base and some green stuff.

On a side note - I've got a "base stamper" set, but sadly - it's not as effective as I'd hoped when I backed that Kickstarter. Maybe with more practice...

I've been playing around with making my own as I wanted something to tie in with some scenery I was going to build. Ended up getting pretty good with the casting side of things as an added bonus. Lol ... Just not got around to building the scenery yet! :)

Will be interesting to see which of the many city type bases that are currently on offer you go for.
