4 bare heads.  You're a brave man.

They seem a touch monotone, but you did good on the eyes, which isn't easy to say the least.  I feel like the tabards could use a midshade between the dark hard lining and the main color, but that may just be a style choice.

The pics are a bit blurry so it's hard to tell, but I'm assuming the blobs of silver here and there are meant to be battle damage?  Damage on black is hard to make look good, but as a start, you might wanna try adding a underline to the silver blotches, perhaps a brown.  It gives the scarring a depth, rather than looking like a simple blob of metallic paint.  But again, on black, this thing is a real pain.

Overall though, not half bad.  Easily table top quality+.  Good work :tu:  Keep that ETL train rolling!

Thanks for the feedback Firepower.

On the battle damage I do a layer of German Grey then the Gunmetal, leaving some of the grey showing. Do you think a brown would work better to achieve the look I'm going for?

Actually, I think they look very nice. You did an especially good  job on the faces, which tends to be the toughest part to pull off.

Regarding the highlight line that FP is referring to, remember to pick a color that is neutral enough to show across multiple colors, as you'll want to use it across the rest of your army if you are going to do battle damage on everything.

I was going to suggest a terracotta color as I've had a lot success with it, but with all the SB red on these guys, I'd go with either a light grey or as FP suggested, a light brown...something like Snakebite Leather (or whatever they are calling it now). Basically a warm yellowish brown.

This vow is really shaping up well, keep plugging away. You are almost there.

ONWARDS!

Agreed, the bare heads look good. Great job on the eyes too. The job itself seems basic, but I've ended up with more cross-eyed models than I care to remember. and the occasional "crazy-eyes". tongue.png

Randomness: I do remember my biggest eye-success, which was completely accidental by the way, being an IG guy manning the Heavy Stubber on my first Battle Tank and somehow he looks terrified. Which is fitting as I see more MC's here than I'd like. Might find the time to upload that one day, in another place.biggrin.png

As stated in the AoD thread, I really like how the shield came out and I will have to look into undertaking an effort such as this.

Also, standing applause for the completion of the vow. We are at a point where every vow will have a significant impact on the final numbers.

Bravo!

Many congratulations on completing your vows, Brother! Brilliant stuff. thumbsup.gif

I really like the Vindicator's shield as well, and I too may borrow this idea. Never pass up a chance to practice that freehand and all! msn-wink.gif

Honored Brethren,

Tonight the Memoria Crusade goes to war. This will be my first taste of 7th edition. I hope to get some pics and put up a battle report latter tonight, but we will see how that goes. I'm still working on my list, it will be a 2000 point game. I hope tonight to bring glory to The Eternal Crusade.

Battle Report:

2000 point game vs. Tau with Dawn of War deployment and we played the tactical objective cards with 6 objectives on the table.

My list:

Marshal (chapter master) with Burning Blade, Shield Eternal and Artificer Armor

Crusader Squad with two power weapons, Combi Flamer, and Flamer and 5 neophytes in a LRC with Multi Melta

Crusader Squad with two power weapons, Combi Melta, and Melta gun.

Crusader Squad with heavy bolter, grav gun, and storm bolter

2 Stormtalons with sky hammer missiles

Storm Raven with hurricane bolters, assault cannon, and Multi Melta

Vindicator with seige shield

Devastor Centurions with grav cannons

His list:

Farsight with 10 crisis suits

Some fire warriors with ethereal

2 rip tides

Broadsides

3 crisis suit team

3 hammerheads

Deployment:

http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee474/mytimeprez/D242FF95-4864-4992-A6D4-760182F73E66.jpg

I got first turn:

I moved up the vindicator and LRC and popped smoke, moved up Centurions and then ran them (night fighting). Got VP for uncovering an objective with small crusader squad.

He stunned my vindicator, took some shots at the LRC with no results, shot at small crusader squad killing a neophyte.

Turn 2:

1st storm talon comes in from reserve

Move vindicator back to my deployment to secure an objective(another VP), moved th LRC up and disembarked crusader squad with Marshal, moved centurions forward.

LRC shoots broadsides and PotMS Multi Melta into a hammerhead immobilizing it, centurions shoot at one of the rip tides taking it down to 1 wound remaining, stormtalon shot at fire warriors, crusader squad fires at broadsides ( the only sky fire unit he had)

Crusader squad charged (only lost two neophytes to overwatch) the broadsides wiping them out and giving me first blood. Consolidated onto an objective giving me another VP

He shot all 3 hammerheads at LRC and didn't even knock off a hull point, shot at crusaders killing one or two, shot at vindicator and storm talon not causing any damage.

Turn 3:

Stormraven and the other talon come in

Turn vindicator to engage crisis suits but stay on objective, centurions continue advancing, crusader squad with marshal move towards fire warriors, storm raven moves toward 2nd riptide as well as 1st talon, drop crusader squad to engage crisis suits, 2nd talon moves onto objective towards fire warriors and 1st riptide.

LRC wrecks hammerhead with Multi Melta, kills some fire warriors with everything else, stormraven wrecks hammerhead with Multi Melta and wounds riptide, vindicator kills a crisis suit (bad roll should've been all 3), crusader squad kills 2 crisis suits (other squad), crusader squad with marshal and stormtalon finish off fire warriors, centurions finish off riptide and immobilize last hammer head

Crusader squad charges one remaking crisis suit kills it and consolidates onto objective

I got several VP this turn due to some D3 objective cards

His turn:

Farsight and big crisis unit come in,

He kills my small crusader squad, kills the crusader squad with the marshal but fails to kill marshal, does a couple of wounds to the 3rd crusader squad,

At this point it was Black Templars 9 VPs and Tau 2 VPs so he conceded the game

Didn't get as many pics as I thought I did

Nice game! You thoroughly battered his units for three turns, while still racking up VP. Then in true Xenos form, he conceded in the face of the Emperor's Might!

Also, loving your Marshal's squad in their epic charge. Shame the rest fell, but what can you possibly do when you know there are 10 crisis suits waiting to deep strike in behind you somewhere? Glad the Marshal was too stubborn to die though ;)

Victory! Well done, Brother! :tu:

I also can't get over the fact that your LRC and Vindicator look stunning on the table. Amazing work. :)

We were joking around that the reason he couldn't damage them was because of the paint jobs.

So, I have been thinking about my list I ran in my first game of 7th (see above). Overall I was pretty happy with the way everything worked together, however I have been thinking about replacing my small fire base crusader squad with a 3 man bike squad. Reason 1: added mobility for shifting objectives throughout the game. Reason 2: I think they will probably be able to deal more damage and be a bigger threat. My only pain point is am I going to have enough troops at that point.

What do my brothers of the Eternal Crusade think?

It's all a bit of a trade-off isn't it?

More mobility->Less staying power due to low # of wounds.

Comparing the units (at a glance, as I can't compare pts-wise builds) I think the added firepower might be minimal, but your list already has a solid amount of fire support. I might try to get as many bikes as possible, and an attack bike, to get the best amount of firepower (twin-linked bolters having the advantage of being reliable), while still getting a decent amount of wounds.

EDIT: Forgot this little bit: Try it out. We have all shifted tiny things in our list to up our effectiveness, so the best advice would be to simply try it out. thumbsup.gif

  • 1 year later...

I can't believe how long it's been since I have posted here. I'm a little ashamed about that.

Anyway been working on a crusader squad over the past few days. Here we go.
