The Memoria Crusade (ETL Vow 1 complete)

So after a long break from the hobby, I am working on my Templars again to fit in with the new "codex" and wanted some advice on what to add to the army and I also need some help with a name for my crusade and a new crusade badge.

My Templars as they stand today: I have a battle company sized infantry, 20 terminators, various HQ's (about 6), 3 rhinos, 2 drop pods, 2 crusaders, a vindi and pred, 2 dreads, and 2 stormtalons I just finished.

Thanks in advanced for any advice.

You will absolutely want grav in way or another, via bikes or preferrably centurions. Heresy codex's can produce some crazy deathstar Melee units that we can only really counter with heavy grav shooting.

Crusaders are about average in the game right now, but not as assault units. Their best roles are either small 5 man heavy+special teams using rhino bunkers, or large 20 man bolter teams with a plasma gun.

Our chapter tactics seem a bit meek at first, but in game they are actually pretty damned useful (maybe not the sweeping advance bonus, but that depends entirely on your local meta). The bonus to deny the witch is incredibly useful though.

You really want to stay away from assault, not because Templars are horrid at it (we are roughly just below mid-tier in that dept.) but moreso the edition really doesn't favor it at all.

that is all i have.

Well, CC is definitely do-able. It just need the entire list build to support your CC units, it's more challenging then the standard Grav-biker spam, but really fun.

Do you play competitively, or for fun?

When naming a Crusade, I recommend finding something that inspires you (and sounds awesome.) We've got all kinds of cool Crusades hanging around here. I can definitely advise this thread for inspiration: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/283565-the-eternal-crusader/?p=3526790

This one contains many of this Forum's Crusades with badges and background. Check it out. thumbsup.gif

Welcome back to the Eternal Crusade, Brother. May you bring glory to the Chapter!

add an Imperial Knight. (cool model to paint)

If you like ForgeWorld models, check the Spartan Assault Tank. (or convert yours)

also:

+ 1-2 whirlwind

+ more dreadnought

+ centurions are cool but expensive in money.

+ 1 more pod could be cool, 2pod at turn 1 and one later is a funny tactic.

+ some rhinos / razorback could help you sometime too.

+ one stormraven could be usefull someday.

I agree on the spartan assault tank. My buddy let me proxy them in a game (I took 2 of them and the knight titan). I put 20 angry dudes in there with a chappy..... It would have been awesome, but he played his FMC deamon list, and I missed 4 rounds of twin-linked las fire from both tanks, thats right, not a single 6. So yeah ha ha

Other than that though I could see those things being amazing!

and yes get a knight, definitely get a knight.

The knoghts are fun, but they don't make an army. I think the best way to go is the usual; just find a way you like to play, build in some redundancy, build in some contingency, and leant the synergies you created.

I all but tabled tau on purge the alien with my triple assault star list last night. All I really run with my Templar now days is Assault units. Thanks to Imperial Knights It's become quite easy to get to the assault since it's so fast and such a large target it generally soaks up a lot of damage. Thus giving My Mechanized assault force an Easy in and turn 2 assaults for generally the entire army.

He was running suit spam with triple riptide in 2k.

The best synergy I'm finding right now with my army is Concussive melee weapons with the Knight. I don't have to worry about High initiative monstrous creatures taking him out before he can swing(wraith knights). While things like chain fists are still a threat, no one else at my store plays assault except daemons. Again, thunder hammers/storm shield terminators are doing work on those MCs.

Thanks for all of the advice everyone. I play more for fun than competitive, but I like my army to make sense. I am not a spam "x" unit kind of guy but I do like options and the ability to play multiple lists.

I think I'm going to go with a simple crusade badge with a whit background and red chevron with the Templar cross overlaid.... Still trying to come with a nam though

Give me a hand drawing of the Crusade badge design, I'll see if I could Photoshop for you...

Land Raiders are always 'fun' and even if you are up against giant competitive lists full of melta and haywire grenades and lances, 2 of them usually deters the opposition...

especially if they are full of angry Terminators with Thunder Hammers :D

Don't forget about anti-air and aerial units as well... Stalker/Hunters, Ravens and Talons if you want to strike from above

If you like LRC's with a real CC punch: Here's my setup for Assault Termies:

7x Termies, 4xTH/SS, 3x LC's escorted by a Chaplain in TDA.

Really expensive, but wrecks whatever you throw them at. laugh.png

A common theme for crusade names is The location of the Crusade; city, planet, System, Sub-Sector etc. For example my Crusade is the Kildrech Crusade, taken from the name of the System which the Crusade was assigned to purge.

This way you can come up with a fictional location (pretty easy in the 40K universe) and have at it. The badge is then often taken from the purpose/situation surrounding the Crusade. However this is often a little bit of a contradiction, as often the Crusade badges we see would not have been able to have been designed until the outcome of the Crusade is known :-)

Like you have, keeping it simple is often the best. Mine simplified is;

which is a simplified version of this ornate Crusade banner

This all representing an isolated besieged Templar Fortress surrounded by a void shield with Reinforcing Templar drop podding in (the Crusade).

That banner is awesome!!! I have been looking a different names as far as sectors and stuff and I thought I had one I liked the other day but realized someone else on the forums already used it. So, I'm back I the drawing board for now. Thanks for the advise.... The quest continues....

See that unto itself can lend itself to names of systems or Crusades:

Continue: Procedo, Pergo

Corrupt the latin a little; Prokedo System or Pergo System

Or the Unknown Crusade; Nescitus Crusade

I really like the sound of Memoria Crusade, you could use a book on the Crusade badge which would open up the ability to use the GK book icons on your vehicles and suchlike.

I was thinking with the Memoria Crusade they would carry banners and wear Crusade badges of other notable crusades in addition to their own. I did a LRC with that concept.....

That's a pretty awesome idea. It could be a Crusade to search out and record all other Templar Crusades! The amount of dark secrets and dangerous recovery missions you would uncover doing that sort of research would definitely warrent a well armed Crusade!

One of the things that you could reference as well is the Crusade's motive, mine took up the Vengeance Crusade coz' I had personal vendetta against a 'Cheese' list gamer in my area who did nothing but take down every new guy we had, and I was a new guy tongue.png ... but that was a good 4 years ago... and now I molded the fluff of my Crusade to fit the name... except I am now hunting a Marshal murdering rogue Inquisitor...

You could worry about the fluff later, just work on a good name, a decent army build according to your playstyle, and everything else will fall down after that...

I also forgot...

Welcome to the Eternal Crusade Brother...

May your Sword pierce through the Darkest Hours of the Imperium

and slay the Heretics from within and Xenos from without...

Let the Flames of your Crusade spread through the darkest of places...

Let none stand against us... for the Emperor is with us!

No Pity! No Remorse! No Fear!

And here's a quick draft of your Badge based on your draft... you could make a hand drawing and just scan it with a scanner, or take pictures of it and post it here... add in extra details as you see fit, and I'll try to work on it...

The crusade of memory... I like it!  Perhaps the High Marshal himself is interested in recovering portions of the chapters history.  With our librarium destroyed much of the chapters records have been lost.  High marshals have done their best to make sure the accounts aboard the Eternal Crusader are as extensive as possible, but perhaps a crusade to look for some of the missing pieces of the chapter's history is needed...  Hmm, makes me think of battle historians or something.  I think this actually a really cool idea that hasn't been tapped into before!  If you like it then I think you should go for it, it would make for a very cool and unique crusade in my opinion.

We press ever onwards brothers.

I like the idea of the Memoria Crusade too, for the exact reasons Elenmar gave. +1 thumbsup.gif

That Land Raider looks great really. Some sweet freehand work there. And I always like references to the Declates Crusade. (and any other Crusades where we work together with other Sons of Dorn.)
