Terran Night Lords

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Quick question, Does anyone know of anything used to mark out terrans from nostramans in the night lords? Want to have a strong contingent of terrans in my force to help show its based around the early days of being reunited with Kurze and wanted something other than differing skin tone and eyes to mark out the little fellas wearing helms. Toyed with the idea of having a few guys here and there still in the colours of the Crimson Sons but think that may be a bit too much and make the force look disjointed so decide to bow to the endless knowledge on display here for help

Thanks

Perhaps take away some Night Lord things that might be Nostraman in origin. Like the lightning effect, or the skull masks.

You could put some sort of crimson tower marking to show that they are Crimson Sons from the stronghold of humanity.

Both of these ideas are super awesome. If I were the OP, I'd pick one or the other, or even do both.

I don't actually have any knowledge, but if there is no right answer, and you want to do it anyway, what about some kind of red badge to mark them as former "Crimson" Sons?

In short, the big problem is "There is no way written down on paper". For example, Zso Sahaal. White skin, black eyes, skull helmet and lightning on the armor. He was Terran.

The thing with the Crimson Sons is that not all Terrans were Crimson Sons. Those were just a specific contingent that played guard duty for a Rogue Trader.

So the "problem" is that you have to find a way to make your own mark. Maybe have some eagle and lightning bolts, which were symbols of having fought in the Unification Wars. Maybe have Pax Terra on the armor somewhere.

Half the legion was still Terran post-Nostramo, and given how Astartes of both cultures took to each other I wouldn't go for anything dramatic or anything that implies a rift existed between the two camps within the Legion like it did in others.

A bulls-eye on the back of their helmets...

Sahaal was a Terran...

And everyone just loved him...
Better than the Crimson Sons. :P

He also got frozen for 10 millenia, and so avoided any house cleaning. At the end of "Lord of the Night", I would not call him a Night Lord anymore.

Yes, it isn't as if our last glimpse of the Talonmaster was him diving for the Corona Nox, vowing to murder the Axeman, reunite the VIII, and take vengeance on the False Emperor in Curze's name, Ave Dominus Nox!

He urvived at Tsalgualsa right up until Curze's death. According to Massacre, the "house cleaning" began as early as the Dropsite Massacre. And technically it wasn't house cleaning. It was the Night Lords being Night Lords and killing anyone they didn't like. Terrans, Nostramans and all manner of other nationalities survived in the Legion. And still do.

Eh, it depends on the company. The 8th Company (aka the Circle of Inclemency, which I play) is heavily implied to have killed off all of their Terran members before Istvaan in a battle known as the Succoth Perfidy of which little is said, but apparently it was only survived by a single Nostraman Night Lord. Then for good measure they are also implied to have murdered said sole survivor on Istvaan V. Because Night Lords. On the other hand, the 22nd Company was/is led by a Terran as even though he was passed over for promotions in favor of Nostramans, he went ahead and killed them, becoming the new leader.

Oh and Terran Night Lords were drawn from subterranean prison colonies where humans had (d)evolved into deathly pale forms with jet black eyes. You know, just like the ones on Nostramo. And Terran Night Lords also wore lightning bolts, and covered themselves in trophies, just like the ones from Nostramo. That's what's so fun about the NL, their entire existence just screams "bad idea" but apparently the big E is rather deaf.

edit/addendum: It seems that the Night Lords never had a formal purge of Terran or otherwise loyalist elements as they other legions did. They just killed one another as criminals often do, and for largely the same reasons. This went on long before the legion was in any sense "officially" renegade, it's just that the Imperium was not aware of the internal affairs of its legions. So it's totally feasible that a good portion of current timeline NL are Terrans, but they would be largely indistinguishable from the Nostramans.

They were also recruited from Albia, the same place the Iron Hands and Death Guard drew some of their Terran recruits.

EDIT:

"The story of the Dusk Raiders begins in the earliest days of Unification Wars. The base stock for the majority of the initially raised Legions came from Terra, and in the case of the XIVth Legion the main bulk of gene-recruits used were drawn from the ancient and warlike clans of Old Albia. Indeed, such was the suitability of this stock for induction to the ranks of the Space Marines, recruits drawn from Old Albia's towering, soot-blackened Castram-cities were also to be found in the ranks of the founding VIIIth and Xth Legions, although to a lesser degree than the XIVth who were by blood and culture shaped by the traditions of the warlords of Albia as well as the hand of the Emperor."

If it weren't for the Alpha Legion, we'd probably lay claim to the most convoluted and confusing set of personal interactions and motives packed into one legion lol.

Just look at how Mercutian wasn't liked by many just because he was part of a mob family. Eye-row-knee.

Thanks for the answers guys. Turned out to be a much tougher question than I had anticipated. A few eagle and lightning bolt emblems seems to be the idea that appeals to me the most. Seems to imply a stronger bond to the big E, as far as the night lords have a bond to anyone :)
