MIDAS

Commander of the 1st Company, the Golden Hand

http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm303/hydriatus/IMG_0102_zpsyvqv9d7d.jpg

Captain of the First Company of the 105th Grand Battalion, Midas was once a Siege Breaker tasked with breaking apart xenos fortifications. After numerous campaigns, he was finally granted command of the 1st Company following the Storming of Fort Twelve-Four, where he led the forlorn hope through the breach made by the Ironwrought's guns. To mark the event, Kobol had the artificers of the Truth of Logic forge a chunk of the fortress into a weapon for Midas to weild in his new position.

The moniker of Golden Hand comes from his time spent in the Ironwrought's forges, and an incident involving a spilled crucible of gold staining his gauntlets right before an emergency deployment. Midas still considers it somewhat of an embarassment, even though his entire company have taken to painting their guantlets gold in a sign of solidarity.

Captain Midas 127pts

SQUAD SALMONEUS

The Patient Ghosts

http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm303/hydriatus/IMG_0122_zpsmqv7lxhz.jpg

A recon squad permanently assigned to the 2nd Company to ensure it remains stocked with fresh recruits, the Ghosts are well suited to taking part in the defensive actions the 2nd Company tends to find itself in. Snipers have a long history of involvment in siege warfare, their ability to single out one target amongst many enough to panic even the most resolute attackers. Or to elminate the greatest threats coming their way. Sergeant Salmoneus always takes to the field with the same gear as the rest of the unit, always claiming that if it's good enough for his warriors, it's good enough for him.

No one knows what the squad was upto during the Dropsite Massacre, and Kobol refuses to reveal that information, leading to several dark rumours forming around the Ghosts - namely that they were tasked with eliminating potential rivals of the 105th Grand Battalion in the chaos of the Massacre.

Squad Salmoneus - 310 pts

5 additional marines

Recon armour

Sniper rifles

Nuncio-vox

DREADNOUGHT MABON

http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm303/hydriatus/IMG_0123_zpsxyzzqqji.jpg

The third member of the 2nd Company Talon, Mabon is the youngest of the dreadnoughts under Axiom's command. He was a veteran soldier who fell during the Dropsite Massacre, and served with honor in the Scorched Earth campaign, the confusing mess of conflict that the 105th wound up in following the Dropsite Massacre. One of the few dedicated anti-tank units available to Axiom, Mabon has found himself thrown into dangerous situations over and over again, his crowning achievement to date being the takedown of a Ceratus Knight Lancer alongside his Talon-brothers during the Scorched Earth campaign.

The dreadnought himself has taken to calling his lascannon cursed, since whenever he suffers damage, it invariably always befalls the lascannon first. Of course, there is also the issue of his continually leaking sarcophagus, but that never affects his combat performance so is always put off until more pressing repairs are carried out.

Legion Dreadnought Mabon - 170pts

Extra Armour
Armoured Ceramite

Twin-linked Lascannon

Chainfist

Good folk, a question - the time has come for some variety...the time has come for an allied force.

But I have a problem - I intend to do Imperial Militia, using non-GW models. Would I still be able to post a progrerss tracker topic here? Or would I have to host it off-site?

(I've looked at the B&C rules, but those need an update it seems - they still say this board is only for stuff in power armour O.o)

Time for the 105th to show up in force! This weekend, the Iron Warriors shall be taking part in a game against my fellow 30k Scorched Earth survivor, the head of the mysterious Knight House that plagues North London!

Operation: Knightfall is in effect. Perturabo shall take to the field alongside the entire gathered might of the 105th, having brought along a gift for Kobol's continued loyal service...

So...

That SUCKED! XD

Operation:Knightfall was an utter slaughter! House Malthrax tore their way through the Iron Warrior lines, catching the sons of Perturabo on the backfoot from the get go with their unexpected asset - a warhound titan! Under the warmachine's baleful guns, the gifted Cerberus did not last long, being completely blown off the table in the first turn of shooting! The bunkers sheltering most of the command cadre fared no better, and by the time I had my first turn, roughly a fifth of my army was dead!

That's a 5k game for you XD

Managed to cling onto turn 4 at least, my breachers managing to bring down a Styrix with mass melta-bombs, whilst my dreadnought talon and vengeance weapon batteris battered the two Knight Paladins on the laft flank. Eventually, my last dreadnought managed to score a mutual kill on one paladin, but let's face it - the result was never truly in doubt.

...I need more superheavies...

Oh, and Perturabo was slain by Lorgar. Becuase Precognition.

Pics incoming!

Operation:Knightfall

The 105th rarely talk about the Knightfall battle. It remains a dark day in their already bleak history. Deployed to hold the line against a Knight Household is tantamount to suicide, even with a handful of weapons capable of taking down the great walkers. From fragmented pict-records and survivor testamonies, it is believed the traitor Iron Warriors setup a simple defensive position to secure the flank of an advance being conducted on the ice world of Bar'nt. The massed might of the 8th company was deployed to hold the line, along with a rare Cerberus gifted to the Grand Company after their deeds on Istvaan - ensuring their loyalty despite any potential objections they may have held in partaking in the slaughter.

After being relegated to garrison duty for so long, the 105th was disgruntled to find itself once more sitting in trenches and waiting for the enemy. Maybe it is because of this that they were not as vigilant as they should have been. A blizzard descended on the outpost, raging for days. The 8th didn't even know it was under attack until the first looming shape materialized out of the white-out. As the soldiers scrambled to bring their heaviest weapons to bear, the searing beams of light of a turbo laser lashed out of the distance. The Cerberus was eliminated instnatly, a reactor explosion sending the heavy tank flying backwards end over end. The command bunker fell next, though the majority of the command cadre stationed inside managed to survive. As they struggled from the ruins, they realized they had been woefully misled as to the nature of the force they were facing - as a warhound scout titan stalked out of the blizzard.

With their best bets to stop the enemy advnace dashed, the Iron Warriors dug in and awaited their fate.

Bellowing in rage, a dreadnought talon counter-charged the incoming knights, even as they continued to bombard the trenches prepared weeks before. The Iron Warrior machines managed to fell one of the towering behemoths, but only at the cost of their own demise. As the walkers hit the trenches, many merely stepped over, refusing to slow down their pace - their true objective lying beyond. Enraged, a squadron of breachers swarmed a passing Styrix, planting meltabombs wherever they could reach, even as the machine continued to shake the earth with each step. A series of explosions managed to fell the steel giant, a bitter cheer erupting from the Iron Warriors even as they continued to die.

Out of a force numbering almost a hundred, fewer than twenty survived.

For their failure, the entire command cadre of the 8th company was executed, and a veteran sergeant from the 1st Company, Comal, was tasked with rebuilding the 8th, becoming it's new commander. He decided to craft the 8th to specifically tackle the kind of enemies that had brought it low, christening the company the Knightslayers in honor of the dreadnoughts and breachers who had managed to bring down the massive machines. Each of the surviving breachers was granted a rare suit of terminator armour, forming the core of the new 8th. The fallen dreadnoughts were also salvaged and repaired, granted to those breachers too injured to fight on as regular marines.

Comal swore vengeance on House Malathrax and those freeblades who fought alongside it, as well as the warhound titan Ignis Domino.

Obviously I edited the events to make them fit canon, since obviously Lorgar and Perturabo wouldn't be duking it out on a worthless ice planet somewhere...

This game took place in GW Barnet, the closest thing I got to a local gaming store! If you feel like taking on the 105th, gimme a shout!

And now for pics!

THE ILL-FATED 8TH

My army at the start of my first turn...

And so ended my first Apocalypse game. I got utterly slaughtered, but it was fun and to be fair, when going up against a knight army...you're gonna have a hard time! Bit bummed my cerberus was blasted away before it did anything, but such is the fate of the 105th...I'm pretty sure Warsmith Kobol has turned to drink by now...

lol oh the pain of knights and titans in my opinion a whole army of knights is ... just not sporting really it's kinda power gaming alot of the time . that said with the right oponent they can be fun to play against but for myself most people that play a whole knight army are playing more for wins then fun . Good for you for standing you're ground untill turn 4 an army of knights have very few exploitable weaknesses against infantry based armies so yeah they have to have the tactical acumen of a fence post to lose badly

and here comes all the hate from the knight lovers

I might just take you up on that. I'm not very good rules wise though so be gentle ;)

Impressed you got through a 5000 point game in 2hrs. Though I suppose with only super heavies on one side and a static gunline on the other theres not much to it!

So what's next for the 105th?

Well said, dude. I'm pretty disappointed that FW even allowed the Questoris Knight list to become part of 30k proper. It's just not a fun army to play against and it's usually not a friendly game. Knights are cool, but they belong as a LOW or at most an allied detachment of 1-3.

I don't mean to derail your thread Hydriatus. Rather, I'm impressed by your attitude playing a game like that. I would have outright refused a game like that, but you stuck it through.

I can make it to GW Watford or GW Barnet! Bring it on! :D

And yeah - the fact he got first turn and blew away about a fifth of my army before I could do anything helped XD

What's next? Well, rebasing a dreadnought, painting up the rest of my scouts, then the cerberus (which shall be known as The Rook). Money is tight, but I'm saving up for a Calth box next - because I clearly need more infantry and not something, you know, useful like tanks XD But the Calth box will net me another 20 man tac squad, and probably a support squad or veteran squad...

Plus a counts-as Erasmus Golg (the so called Comal), a chaplain, and a terminator command squad.

Ideally I also want to get a Librarian and Vigilator to have a full choice of consuls! Oh, and a Praeverian with Vorclex...

Fortification wise, I want to max out the Wall of Martyrs choice from Stronghold Assault, so several more boxes of scenery are required, as well as the Aquila cannon of DOOM.

Or...I dunno, what do you guys think I should get next?

To be fair, the guy has bought a Knight army, I see no problem with him playing it - let's remember that this was an apocalypse battle, which all tend to be somewhat ridiculous. And this was a friendly game, so who cares who wins? Besides, I knew what I was getting into (apart from the Titan, I wasn't expecting THAT!)

With Calth out, he's now working on an actual Word Bearers force from the Shadow Crusade (specifically a blue coloured warband that Thiel refers to in Deathfire)

My missus gave me an odd look when I suggested I might travel 3 hours to meet a stranger off the internet. Not sure why smile.png

In the new year mate I will take you up on that! Though it may be some hot Iron on Iron action as I also play the IV.

Tanks man, that's where's it's at. I've a Typhon and need some vindicators to go with it.

How about a squadron of 3 vindicators with laser destroyers to escort your Cerberus?

Bwahaha, then let's wait for the next Imperial Truth tournament? :P

And eeeh...my gimmick is fortifications ^_^ It's earned my honourable mentions as a memorable foe in a podcast, so I'm going to OWN this gimmick! Aquila strongpoint, here I come! Now, macrocannon or Vortex missiles...

(Plus, it's cheaper than 3 vindicators!)
