The Wretched Sons

... And by side-tracked (see my Inqu][sitor log, link in sig) I mean - CHAOS!!!

Since every hero require enemies, I decided to start a mixed Dark Mechanicus/Chaos marine/Cultist war-band to battle my Inqu][sitor teams.

I call these bad boys the Wretched Sons.

As I had a DV Helbrute lying around, I though I'd see what could come from this pile of bits:

- Cut away front upper spine and replaced with a GS mold-copy of the back spine, and added some 'hide the bad GS sculpting' hoses:

- Got rid of those terrible vent-stacks, ran the hoses from the front into the holes that were left and GSd them into place
- You can also see the rest of the GS-copy of the spine:

- Didn't like those half-cable/half-flesh cables so replaced them with these Dragonforge ones
- Had to rebuild the hydraulics underneath after some over exuberant knifing...

- Built a base and positioned the feet - unusually for me I plan on painting the base and Boss Brute as one:

- Left arm with claw hand made from parts of the Helbrute and bits of the Mauler-fiend:

- Right arm, mostly mauler-fiend, with a home-made multi-barrel obligatory Boss Brute Big Gun - needs GS-flesh added around the base to make it look like the flesh has grown around the weapon:

And because there's always too much GS/milliput mixed (during other projects):
- Musculature added to embed the gun, and repaired some accidental knife work on the CC hand:

- And added some bulk to the torso under the armour plates:

More soon, thanks for looking!

I must say, you are fast becoming a favourite modeler of mine on B&C, Lamby. Tasty work, especially the spine and the multi-barreled gun.

Olisredan - Thanks!

- The spine was extended by making a press-mold of the original, and then GS-ing the join - it was a nightmare to do, but worth it in the end

- I lurv multi-barrelled guns... actually, I love guns - all guns (as you will see in my Inqu][sitor blog)

Looking good! Can't wait to see the finished product!

Ammonius - Thanks!

- Actually he is finished, I'm just teasing you all with some WIPs to whet the appetites...

Lookin really cool so far. Give us more!

reckoning35 - Thanks!

- Ok, see below...

Now that's looking tempting lamby.

forte - Thanks!

As requested - nay: demanded! - here's the final WIPs of the Brute...

Take a Venerable Dreadnought's leg-armour:

In the next exciting episode, we'll move onto the protracted Hell that painting this aptly named Helbrute became...

sexy legs

:smile.:

Thanks!... I think...

And so onto the 3 attempt Hell to reproduce this effect shown here on Timmy the Test Model - Salt weathering, crackle and rust test:

On the Brute:

Finally getting there - this then received gloss varnish, an oil wash, touchups with orange rust and green... after this I moved onto rusty metal and skin (o so many layers on the skin!) and forgot to take PIP pics, so in the next instalment - the completed Brute!

Concerning Zamael:

Brother-Sergeant Zamael of the Sons of Horus was left for dead on the battlefield following the Great Betrayal on Isstvan III. In the midst of the battle he had fallen to a chain-sword wielding Loyalist, loosing both legs, a part of his right arm and most of his internal organs. When he was found by the Wretched Sons he had been dragging himself with his remaining arm across the charred surface of the planet for a week.

The Wretched Sons were a small remnant of the Sons of Horus combined with a smattering of Death Guard, Emperor's Children and World Eater survivors - all still loyal to Horus - who had been inadvertently left behind following the withdrawal of the Warmaster's forces. Knowing no rescue was forthcoming, they had taken to wandering the scarred surface of the planet scavenging weapons and technology, in the process finding a surprising number of survivors.

Zamael was taken to the Dark Mechanicus Artificer Phledexus, whom the Wretched Sons had taken in and set to work repairing a cruiser in the hopes they might eventually escape the planet. Phledexus took the dying Zamael and entombed him in a battle-damaged but functional Dreadnaught sarcophagus to initially preserve his life, but the mutagenic side-effects of the toxic mix of chemical and biological weaponry deployed on Isstvan III was attacking Zamael’s transhuman genetics. Excited by the prospects, Phledexus could not resist tampering with Zamael’s broken genes and implementing elements of the Obliterator virus into the Dread's cyber-mechanics.

The Wretched Sons eventually repaired the crashed ship and left Isstvan in an attempt to join their Warmaster in the final assault on Terra and the False Emperor. Warp storms and other misfortunes delayed them and eventually the Wretched Sons learned of the fall of the Emperor, and the death of Horus, at which time they fled like the remaining Heretics for the Eye of Terror. By this time Zamael had grown beyond the confines of the Dread chassis, warping in screaming agony over years into a raging weapon of terror and destruction, and in the process becoming utterly and irrevocably insane.

Zamael is wonderful! You've made the Helbrute look far better than the stock DV model.

As far as his backstory goes, however, I'm pretty sure the Iron Warriors weren't at Istvaan III.

Indeed. Switch out Iron Warriors for Emperors Children and it's all good... unless the model was specifically an Iron Warrior - in which case you have a problem.  :tongue.:

Damn - this was actually pointed out to me a while back, I'd removed the Iron Warriors - apparently they were 'scattered across the galaxy' at this time.

I copy/pasted an older version - so Thanks! to both of you for the pickup.

Olisredan - EC's added, good suggestion, might let me do some 'noise' weaponry later - and no, Zamael was a Son of Horus, not an Iron Warrior.

Thanks!

After much back and forth - specifically with those wretched (!) forearms - Brown Stuff, liquid GS, excess GS/milliput and a whole range of bits have congealed into this axe-weilding Wretched Sons Astartes:

Sharp eyes might note the axe head was originally cast in GS/milliput from a press-mold, and is now Brown Stuff - I decided I wanted the Chaos (half) stars from the original Warriors of Chaos Chosen weapon.

The Ax will feature alongside Zamael the Helbrute as foes for my Inqu][sitor retinues.

Thanks for looking!
