Traitor Guard

Recommended Posts

Been working on a small detachment of traitor guardsmen to accompany my Word Bearers recently. These have been sitting around, gathering dust for a while now and so I got painting them whilst I try and finish my back story for my Word Bearers Host (a page for that will follow soon).

For now anyway, I thought I would share my guard as it might inspire to to get some good results and progress.

Will be working on a small back story for these too but for now here is a wip Ministorum Priest and some Conscripts (Cultists).

love the zealot theme going on, they'll tie in nicely with your word bearers i'd say. are they flagellant legs? if so they look very good imho. the models almost have a pilgrim look too. clever remodeling of their weaponry too, i may just have to steal that.

Thanks Leinmann. Yeah they are, although the conscripts use the whole body with Pig Iron heads and Cadian arms but thank you very much.

Feel free to, it's just normal lasguns with shortened barrels, imperial iconography shaved off and the original magazine replaced with the ammo feeds from spare csm Bolters.

Cheers WarriorFish!! I hope to cover them in chaos iconography and tattoos too.

Not sure at the moment, never really had much experience with guard. I have a sentinel that came with the army set, but other than that not really thought about it. Any suggestions? I think a spiked up Leman Russ would look awesome.

Thanks BoomKaPow, I have always preferred the evil side ;) I was thinking snowy cityscape to tie them in with the few Word Bearers and Daemons I have based already as well as the game board we will play on mostly.

Thanks :) haha!!! True, although I intend to go back over all the rusted parts with a metal colour to show chips and flecks so none of them will be as rusty as they look at the moment.

Although, it's chaos. My guys care not where they get their equipment from, whether it be salvaged scraps forged into armour or old machines. As long as it works, they are happy. Their Word Bearer masters are not inclined to provide them with anything and so it's all what they could scavenge or what little equipment they had available when they turned evil. That's the look I was going for with the rust and the harsh environs of the eye of terror are not best for keeping equipment in top shape :D need to write this into some fluff at some point...

Cheers guys!! Really appreciate the comments, definitely inspires me to keep painting.

The rust effect was really simple actually and I just used the new GW paints.

Leadbelcher base, with Typhus Corrosion wash. Drybrushed with Ryza Rust. And I'll pick out some chips in the rust with a lighter silver.

Thanks for sharing your recipe. I don't know what others' experience has been, but I've really been liking the new line of Citadel Paints. Just following their recipes in "How to Paint Citadel Miniatures" has worked out really well for me. Here's another few pots for me to buy.

Yay, more traitors rebels.

I say do some larger vehicles adorned with scrolls next or some Daemon looking Elites (Vets, Bullgryns, etc.) given WB's affinity for Daemons.

That's alright.

Yeah, this new range is brilliant, it's all I have ever used. Never used any GW guides, but I would definitely recommend all the 6 new technical paints actually. And I am in love with their washes at the moment. I could never shade by layering paints. These have to be the one thing that has single handedly made my painting skills better.

I like the new paints too, though I've not had the chance to use many of them yet - perhaps I'll break them out over the ETL?

You have some nice ideas so I'm looking forward to seeing how you apply them to more models, keep up the good work! :D

Thanks a lot guys!!! Appreciate the comments :D

No, I have not looked at those really. Other than the flagellant kit which I use extensively, I tend to shy away from warhammer kits unless I can either get the single bits or will use the entire box. I'll have to look into that.

First regular guardsman. The rest of his squad are at the same stage now but need to finish/stick arms before a photo of the whole squad.

As you'll see, they are slightly better armoured and more uniform in appearance than the conscripts posted earlier whilst still tying the army together.
