As for paint style, I'm going to run a test model through the process Mark Bedford demonstrated at the weekender which looked quite frankly stupidly easy but pure awesome as well. 

 

Once there's some worthwhile content in here I'll include a link with the siggy lol

The lightning on this can be ignored. I was looking to try something new but even disregarding the crappy painting skills on show I was happier with my previous method so shall be rolling with that. The colour however is perfect, as is the technique for washing that I picked up at the weekender, So test model done and now today's progress

Decided I'll tackle em in batches of 5 since doing them en mass will grate on me too much. The Sicaran shall be my treat for painting the 40 infantry and rhino haha

Sounds like a good plan to keep enthusiasm up. If I get more than 10 men on my paint-station at a time I start to panic and avert my eyes from their mute unpainted glares... Can't think of a better treat than a Sicaran either. The Venator pattern is just too gorgeous.

Mind sharing your recipe for the blue? You've got a really nice deep colour on that tester.

It's valejo night blue, game colour not air. Lovely deep coat. Once the metallics are painted on it's coated with purity seal since it provides a better base coverage for the lightning and adds some natural highlights

OK 1st real update. 1st batch of 5 marines are glued and primed, along with their bases and weapons which I kept separate in order to get all the details on the torsos.

Update 2: Basecoat on the armour is done along with the metallics and the eye lenses. Supply run tomorrow for purity seal and all the components to make the wash I'm going to use. Should be fun. Current plan is to have these done on Friday then spend the weekend doing some serious modelling

It's Valejo Night Blue on a black undercoat :) Hasn't had the wash yet so it should be shaded nicely after that goes on then some ice blue highlights and it's taken care of. Then the fun of doing the lightning lol

Biggest challenge I've got is where to put it, awkward on the breastplate because of the harness with the power plant and 1 shoulder guard has the winged skull so that leaves 1 should and legs. Or get balls out creative with it haha

Cant you paint a thin lighting strike along the edges? For example between the winged skull and the rim of the pad? :-)

Personally I'm not happy with the way the lightning has turned out but had a lot of difficulty with the brush so shall be purchasing some new insane detail ones to help further with this regard,

 

Got the next batch of 5 primed and ready to go so WIP shots of them shall be on the way soon. Also primed the Sicaran and it's metallics so basecoat for that and it's well on the way. Awaiting the remaining models from Ebay now and then it's full on hobby mode from here until August 1st :D

The bolters look darker to the naked eye, it's more the pic that makes em look too shiny :)

OK after much delay due to the unpredictable tides of the Warp, I finally have completed my first Terror Squad so I present to you the Fifth Blooded of the XIV Company of the Night Lords Legion.

I've tried to keep the converting to a minimum on these since I'm still finding my feet with them all, next claw will have plenty of skulls, helms and the flesh of the dead over them.

 

I'm still not happy with the lightning effect in all honesty, Got the first two layers nailed down pretty well but can't quite get the blending for the white right. Bit more practice before it comes around to doing the next batch. Also some of you may notice the lack of highlghts, this is deliberate. I highlighted my tester model and it looked pretty stupid in the end plus to the naked eye the layer of varnish on top has some good ready made highlights without slapping extra layers on it so I'll roll with it like it is for now. Maybe make some changes when it comes to the HQ choices

 

Expect a bit of fluff in the next few days too, just need to get the magic edit button on the case 1st

I think your lightning looks good here brother, and also going for a darker blue myself, I highlighted by drybrushing the etherium blue, then gave the whole model and Asurmen blue wash to tie it in. I'd say if you want the highlight darker still, just add some black wash to the blue wash, and then bob is indeed your uncle

Hmmm think I shall indeed go with the blue instead of an out and out white, it's just too bright compared to the dark tone on the rest of the models. Thanks for the tip :D
