Lord Kallozar Posted April 19, 2014 Share Posted April 19, 2014 Hi all can someone please help me out with understanding the origins of the Lords of Decay and understanding who they actually are! First of all in 4th edition codex we are given a brief explaination of them being a warband chased across the mentieth(sp?) sector with a picture of them in a grubby grey/white colour scheme. Then we are told that they are actually a large splinter faction of the Death Guard that have been led by Typhus and Mortarion and their colours have completely changed to a weird beige in the IA volumes. Then 6th edition codex tells us that actually the Lords of Decay were a Space Marine Chapter that turned traitor to Nurgle during the Abyssal Crusade. None of this makes sense...... Its not that they were completely retconned, but more that you should associate the current status of that former chapter's survivors with the Lords of Decay. For example, look at the Magma Hounds. It states at the end of the excerpt for them that their 'numbers had swelled considerably' not that the Chapter itself had become the Magma Hounds but rather joined their ranks. So think of it as the Chapter that was linked to the Lords of Decay as nearly wiped out, and those who survived joined with the Lords of Decay. So think of it as the Chapter that was linked to the Lords of Decay as nearly wiped out, and those who survived joined with the Lords of Decay.It could also be like the case with the Skulltakers where the Lords of Decay are a rather large warband and one faction is being chased across the Mentieth while a second is a Death Guard faction and a third is a Renegade Chapter.
