GUARDIANS OF THE COVENANT.

FORTUNE FAVOURS THE FAITHFULL.

Hi brothers (and some sisters) and welcome to my Guardians of the Covenant thread. This is the third project I embark upon since I have joined the B&C community and hopefully I will be able to finish this one, its also a great time since I resently got a job at telemarketing (a warning to our brothers in Britain tongue.png). I chose this chapter because of their colourscheme, their highly monastic nature and because its a chapter with very little information regarding their characters and formations so I can do what I want (and we all love that, dont we biggrin.png ). Now, I have said too much, time for some pictures:

Brother Remus, 1st Tactical squad, 3rd Company.

http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t373/Philip_Breusch_Magnussen/P4190027_zpsc6722e30.jpg

Brother Remus is wearing a suit of modified MK IV armour. Over his right eye he wears an advanced optics system built into his MK IV helmet. In his squad he serves as one of the designated scouts or spotters, helping the battle brothers carrying the squads special equipment to better find and eliminate their tarquets.

Brother Sergeant Uriel, 1st squad, 3rd company.

http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t373/Philip_Breusch_Magnussen/P4190024_zps7fb58f18.jpg

Brother Sergeant Uriel has served the chapter for the better part of a century. He wears a suit of MK VI armour with the modified "knight" patter helmet.

I will try to add some fluff later on and I have been trying to learn how to use GIMP so I can get some better quality pictures. Those of you that know the GofC might have noticed that the robes arent that vibrant red colour you usually see. Thats because I tried out a few things and I think this red/brown colour combines much better with the black and metals of the armour.

Anyways, Comments and Critics are always welcome.

Oh and MANY THANKS TO BROTHER 1000HEATHENS FOR SHARING HIS RECIPE FOR THIS GREAT LOOKING METALS.

Nice to see you went for a lesser known Chapter.

I do have one critique. The base colour. It's too close to the metal of the armour so it gets lost. Otherwise, really good.

Thanks for the critique Forte. Bases are one of the things I always have so much problems with making them look good. Do you have any suggestions on what could look good with the GofCs colour scheme?

The texture looks good but putting grey, even a dark grey, next to silver just causes the model to blend in with it.

The way I look at it is to try and find something that won't distract from the model. My Slaanesh stuff is bright and colourful so the bases are fairly plain and grey. When I do my kill team the Marines are going to be grey so I'm planning a more forest/ jungle floor base style. Brown's and greens. These colours won't be on the models.

For yours I'd likely go for more of a green or sand style with the texture you have.

Give them a couple of coats of thinned paint (your dark colour) with a touch of washing up liquid as it breaks the surface tension and helps it go into the texture better. Then give it a bit of a dry brush like you have. But mind your minis.

Thanks DR! Okay, Ill try some desert/nuclear wasteland on the next mini and see how it looks. Maybe put down some of the extra helmets burried in the sand and paint them as another chapter (but which one, hmmm...).

And I will keep working with GIMP, I would like to eliminate a bit of the glare created by the sun when I take the pictures.

Nice job so far :) I like your chapter choice.

Regarding Gimb; this might be useful to you: "How to edit shots of Miniatures" (Type this in youtube). Sorry, I cannot copy and past with IE on this forum; so no link unfortunately :(

I subscribe to Forte's remark

a quick google showed this base emphasizes the armor

you could even go in more orange tones, crackled soil or whatever

I did not know this chapter. Great pick. Really like the dark grim aspect !

Yeap, I repainted the bases of the 2 minis in that colour scheme. It just looks a little bare so need some dry/dead looking static grass to compliment the "atomic wasteland" feel I want to give it. I also need to add some bits and details, maybe helmets and weapons. Im nearly done with the next marine so there might be an update later.

Nice. And adding a little more story to the model with the extra details you're planning too. Look forward to the update.

As I promised, heres the next brother.

Brother Zaphan, 1st tactical, 3rd company.

Brother Zaphan is one of the oldest and most rewarded members of the squad. Three time he has earned the Sword of Valour for his calm behaviour in front of the uncountable foes. Rumours are that he has been favoured by Captain Raphael of the 3rd Company and will soon pass on to become one of the companies veterans.

EDIT: Woooops, just changed the She. Thanks Barabbas.

I still havent added any details to the base, still working on it. Anyways, as always, comments and critics welcome. smile.png

Ok. Next step.

Take a bit more time over removing mould lines when building your models. And how are you with a hand vice drill? Always looks better when you drill the bolter barrels (slowly and gently).

Yes on occasion I miss some of the mold lines when Im cleaning them up and dont see them till after I have begun painting. The mold line on the arm in particular I removed but it ended up looking like that ermm.gif And I dont have a drill but I definetly need to get one.

EDIT: grammar.

I have to agree with forte. Your painting is very nice, but you should remove those horrible mold lines. I use the ArmyPainter drill. Very satisfied. Its much cheaper than the GW one.  Other than that; really cool stuff. Especially the lenses are looking ace.

Like he said. Don't get the overpriced GW drill. There's lots of others available so look around.

Brother Eran, 1st squad, 3rd company.

No fluff for this guy but I will say Im warming up to the GofC colour scheme, it looks very archaic and dark. I only wish they had a more interesting chapter badge because 2 crossed swords feels so common. Hope you like him, C&C welcome of course :)

Very nice work here, really like the robed one, may i suggest that the cabling on the right foot of Brother Zaphan and the cabling on the helmet, you could leave it black with grey light or do a selective black wash or two on those with a detail brush too break the overal silver, hope that helps. Also really like the new base color. Where are you in spain?
