Sisters of Battle (The Never Ending Plog)

Recommended Posts

So once again it looks like I am headed to Throne of Skulls.

Unlike the prior times this will be 40k and not fantasy so a bit of a learning curve, especially with all the new units to watch out for as well.

Now for my main army I have chosen Sisters of Battle.

I love the models, love the lore and they are far too under used in my eyes.

Unfortunately this is Throne of Skulls and a Little Allied help may be required.

For that reason I will be trying it under 2 Ideas.

Sisters of Battle with an Imperial Knight or Sisters of Battle with an Imperial Knight and a Small Detachment of Blood Angels.

Now I do love my conversions in any force i do, as it stands with sisters models everything is metal so not allot I can do so as i create the force i will be making objective markets, converted HQ's and anything else I can get my hands on so as I have a couple of models that really jump out.

So with any real sisters army we must show the Saint first, she does not even need to be used but every sisters player will have at least one Celestine Model (Often a second as a marker, a dead version or inspiration for a conversion) so in true sisters style the first model I have painted is the Saint herself.

Let me know what you think, any tips, etc.

Now to add some much needed threat to the army I have my Imperial knight.

Problem is everyone looks the same, tried trposing mine moving the let up to be standing on something and that helped a bit but it still does not really make it stand out.

So a hour of trying to remember old science classes in school later and shopping for the parts I have the beginnings of a sinister Imperial Knight.

Repent and Die Heretics!

Very nice! Will you be taking the BA as the close combat specialists for your force? I think with the Knight in it might be unwise to split your points from your Sisters too much.

The Knight looks great, I'm looking forward to seeing him painted. Will you give him a scheme/House that ties in to the Sisterhood? We've already got a Knight that has been given Sister colours and it looks good. Celestine is nice, is that your army's colour scheme? I like the metallic colour, did you give it a wash to pick some of the details out? Her halo looks a little barren so maybe a wash or highlight there so it fits in with the rest of the model a bit more?

With the Blood Angels I am taking purely for Mephiston.

He is my Favourite character from the lore of 40k but he is also a great answer to wraith knights, titans and what have you which is why I am taking him.

Along side him I have a choice of a scout squad to hold the back board edge or some scouts and a drop pod assault melta squad, a 10 man assault melta squad in a drop pod or some scouts with a ball predator.

There is allot of choice there.

As it sits the Knight is going to be done in sisters colours and will have lore written so he stands as a shrine world guardian, he will however be the first of 5/6 Knights I will paint.

I will repaint Celestines Base as truth be told, I am unhappy with it, too dark and I have not yet chosen the colour form my sisters.

Its washed in Agrax, down side to the halo I have tried to shade it but it looks worse, with the flash on though it shows allot brighter than it is so take that with a pinch of salt.

So in regards to colours for the sisters I am torn between traditional Black and Red or to go with white, trouble is, I don't know how to paint that much white. :(

I think Mephiston is an answer to most things

Your Knight plans sound good albeit crazy, I'd be content with one! :P Looking forward to seeing some more Sisterly Knights though. I think Celestine's base is ok, it just needs a bit more done to it so it's less plain. Maybe some dead grass or different coloured rocks?

White is much easier to paint thanks to the not-so-new Ceramite White base paint as it allows you to correct mistakes easier, but have you thought about doing your own scheme?

Well his AP suffered in the last edition but he can instant death wraith knights and they cause allot of problems at my local meta.

Thinking of making her base a more off colour white and adding other details from there.

If I do black armour it would have a much better contrast.

I have considered it but I love trying to make forces correct to the lore.

I have not even got around to making my own chapter yet never mind order. ;)

I see surprisingly small amount of green stuff in those unpainted exos? Pins or fingers crossed that they won't break during transport / random encounters during event?

Knight looks promising =)

So with 7th edition coming up fast and allot of buzz aroudn the subject around summoning daemons i have had a thought.

Sisters would never summon Daemons, never in a million years, however...

If these daemons where not daemons but in fact the spirits of fallen sisters and modeled as such, winged saints decending from the skys, the fallen comrads of the sisters summoned forth in their angry to fight beside their sisters once more, that could work.

Now in my mind they would be ghostly in apperance, whites, etc, pale in all aspects like smoke but with glowing blades of judgement ready to smite down the unbeliever.

Now if you think back in the sisters lore, grey knights lore, other imperial lore and of course the graphic novels there are instances of these things all over the place, the question is though, what do people think of me summoning these avenging angels to the field in the first place?

Now they would be using the rules for blood letters likely along with an inquisitor but how do people think i should model these as well, any thoughts, ideas or opinions on this would be a great help.

A bit like Soul Storm then? I always thought that was a cool concept and it'd be a characterful but I don't like the idea of using Daemon rules even as a counts as. Plus it wouldn't be a Sister unit summoning them but rather an Inquisitor at least.

If you really wanted to do this, perhaps better as part of an unbound force maybe? Summoning Daemons sounds like it's difficult too so it'd be unlikely you could muster the dice to do it effectively without skewing your list such that you need to reassess the point.

The idea is good, but I don't think it'll work very well in practice confused.gif If you want to do it then I'm right behind you... or right behind the modelling aspect at least :P

They are summoning being souls from the warp, not all that different to summoning a daemon in concept.

Besides if its an inquisitor doing it, its not as bad as they are always mucking around with things.

Well an army gets D6 plus the Levels of the casters in dice, I reckon I can make it work.

I will not consider a unbound force though, this is sisters with a little flavour, I'm not the kind of person to take lists like that, if I wanted broken over character I would not play sisters. :P

On the modeling aspect it would look awesome but worst case scenario, I end up with a unit of heavily converted seraphim. ;)

I agree there, but it's the use of Daemon rules to do it that I don't like. We should be purging them in all their forms - counts as or not! :P

Converted Seras would be a good base, and you could really go to town with making them fancy if you wanted.

I was thinking about ways to incorporate something very similar. Reading through the GK codex I came across Grand Master Mordrak & his Ghostly retinue (Which is nothing more than a Terminator unit if I'm reading things right).

Having an extra squad of sisters I want to paint them as though they are from the beyond called forth to fight alongside my S.S. The rules/unit I was thinking of using were the Celestians. But the Daemon lore opens up a new option that is worth exploring at the very least.

So it looks likely that this plog will be allot larger than 1500 so I have edited it taking that into account but for now just got my Avenger Strike Fighter undercoated as per my pledge and about to start on this bad boy:

Still need a name for my order though, sticking to blacks and reds but I am hoping to make them my own minor order, suggestions?

Wish me luck.

Well looks like I never got around to finishing my vow.

Unfortunately I lost a member of my immediate family  towards the end of the month which stopped all my painting in its tracks. :(

So now I am working towards getting 2 sisters of battle armies done, mainly so I can switch between the 2 for shooting and combat, I will post it up a little later but I just want to hear what people think of both forces and are they viable before I start painting and buy the remaining models.

They are not cheap. ;)

These things Happen, nothing to be done about it but thanks mate.

Anyway on less depressing subjects my two armies I am thinking of buying, painting and running at 1850 points are as follows.

Troops: 755 Points

Now this list leaves me with 15 points to play with so I am considering a combi plasma for the 10 strong sister unit and a melta bomb for the seraphim.

The combat army however is allot more complex.

In this force I will have to take some allies, this is due to needing an assault vehicle but I am trying to keep it fairly minimal.

Over 100 points remaining here, not sure if I should get another unit or just spread it around in upgrades.

Combat Army: 1753

Ok, so time to crack back on with this as I have been lax of late.

Got a big tournament coming up and I need to decide between taking Sisters of Battle or Iron Hands.

Both forces need allot of work to finish paint wise but I like to plan what I need ahead of time.

As it stands my sisters list is sitting fairly solid with the addition of 2 more Repressors bringing to total 3 which is a nice cunky number and I'm getting the Marauder Destroyer after Christmas when my finances are a bit more acceptable.

My main concern however is the basic HQ choice with no upgrades, makes me feel a little naked.

On the plus side the list does have 8 scoring choices with objective secured if I include transports, 9 tanks total and a flyer.

The force is a highly mobile wall of fire and armour with enough Melta to drive through the imperial palace of terra itself but the quest is, will it work?

I have tried to build it for Horde Control, Anti Armour and Air Domination  but I think I really, REALLY fall down in combat and in the numbers game, also a big concern is those rock hard characters of death.

Either Way give the list a look over and tell me your thoughts:
