Alpha Legion Colour Schemes?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried using iridescent paints for the alpha legion scheme? Is that even possible? because having a  paint that changes colors depending on which angle you look at it from would be very fitting for the Alpha Legion. Although it'd have to focus more on the Blue/Green side of things.

Funny story, it looks like Tamiya made an iridescent blue/green but it is for polycarbonate R/C Car bodies so no telling how it would work on plastic or resin.

Here. I tried taking this picture inside both inside & outside and this is the closest I can get to how it actually looks. I swear he's greener than that. Might try some coelia greenshade between the teal & clear blue or just thinned clear green or something. I swear half the fun with PH Alphas is trying to figure out how best to do the colors.

i really like yours, I'm thinking about doing a more blue like i did with my sergeant for all the vets and officers. yours looks great

Thanks. I'm still trying to make mine more green. Testor's Chezoom Teal is a slightly greener version of their Teal, and there's always Tamiya Green but I'm that guy with pipettes and I'd never be able to duplicate my mix. It would drive me crazy.

i did a quick search for it on models, and found some pics of it on car models. pretty sure those are plastic, so it might work. gonna have to order a can and test it on something i dont care about.

placed an order for a can of the tamiya iridescent blue/green. when it gets here, i'll test it on one of my spare models i have laying around.

the general plan is to prime it as usual, spray it with the tamiya spray, then matte varnish it so its not so shiny. after that, paint the stuff thats not supposed to be the shifting color, such as bolters.

My experience with Tamiya spray paints is limited to 1:350 scale model warships. But here is my advice:

(1) When you use a new can, get rid of the first 10% or so of paint. Even when you shake well, the first and last 10% of the can will always be the least consistent.

(2) Multiple thin layers is better than one thick layer. Spray one layer, let dry completely, and repeat the process until satisfactory.

(3) Use the Tamiya primer beforehand.

Good luck.

its up to you : some marines had bonding studs on both shoulders, some left and some right. Prime example being the studded goodness that is MK V Heresy

What's the consensus of using MK VI do you just put the shoulder pad on backwards on the right or switch the studded pad to the right

I put it on the left shoulder on my MK VI because the minis I bought 1990 (RB 01) had them there. Putting it on the right shoulder would to me look odd.

so i got that tamiya brand iridescent blue/green spray. tried it out on a model that was primed black. it didnt really work. could be possible i did it wrong, im going to keep experimenting until the can is gone, or i get it right.

thats one option im looking at trying. also looking for a different brand that might work better/have more pigment.

it almost works when i tested it on a model that was primed black, then painted dark blue.

this is what ive gotten so far. still toying with it. got it a little darker and more towards the blue end by putting a few coats of tamiya clear blue over it (no pics of it).
