Recently I began wondering whether there were any more Warhammer novels featuring Slaaneshi characters besides the ones I have already read. I have used the search function to look for similar topics but the search came up empty. If however such a topic already exists please feel free to point me towards it! I'm looking forward to your responses and maybe someone else might find something of interest here, too! I'd like to post some feedback here and discuss whether you thought the same about these stories. Warning: Spoilers! Lucius - The Eternal Blade It was nice to hear about what happened to Lucius after Angel Exterminatus but overall not a very strong story. I felt like I was supposed to remember the two 1k Sons characters from their books but it has been such a long time since I read them (and I generally have problems recognizing names in audio books) that I ended up not remembering who they were. Besides giving us an update on Lucius, a (kind of) predictable fight scene and an outlook on what might possibly happen next, there isn't too much in this story. On the other hand it's "only" a (very short) short story so one shouldn't expect a lot of content. Overall: 5/10 Atrophy Another very short short story but this time with a very strong premise! I really liked the twist at the end and would like to hear more about this. The one thing I didn't like about it was that this story reads like a Crimson Saber/Slaughter advertisment, still a worthwhile read. Overall: 8/10 Perfection Finally a short story which goes on for more than a few pages (or minutes)! Again, a very interesting premise as you don't often see this kind of who's-done-it-detective kind of story in 40k, especially not with Space Marines in it. The only thing I didn't like about really comes down to the fact that I listened to it rather than read it. As I've said before I have trouble keeping names apart in audio books, so in the end I didn't really know who the culprit was. If I can find this as a written text I will definitely reread it though! Overall: 8/10 Wrath of Iron This novel was FAR better than I had anticipated! The grim-darkishness of the setting is transported really well as we get to see just how hopeless the situation of the ordinary people of the Empire really is. The Iron Hands come across as at least as terrible as the forces of Chaos (hell, they make the Mechanicum look nice) and the end of the novel one again strengthened my belief that Chaos isn't any worse the Empire. The Slaaneshi aspect of it all was generally well done, although it made me wonder whether Daemonettes can fly. Also, if I had read the word purple one more time I might have screamed. Kaeseron being the Daemon Prince at the end made me really happy, as I loved the character in the HH books. Of course, I would have liked it better if he had had more than 3-4 lines, besides just screaming "Perfect, Astounding, Magnificent!". I too wonder about the flying daemonettes, and I guess it would have been better of Chris Wraight simply used another Slaaneshi daemon, or simply invented one. I went and read this right away because it brings two of my favourite things in 40k, Red Corsairs and Slaanesh, together. However, I must say that I was a bit disappointed. Although the Corsairs' barbarism was brought across convincingly and Huron was his old terrifying self, almost everything else felt a bit lackluster. I liked Volosus, the main character, well enough but most of the time he felt less like a real character and more like the generic idea of an EC marine. His competitors barely had any traits at all .The Shift, while a nice idea in principle, was not fleshed out enough, its potential for otherworldy horrors not used to its fullest. It also felt like Volosus didn't really have any agency in the story, most of the time he seems to stumble clueless and powerless through the labyrinth. His descent into madness at the end felt rushed and half-hearted. Of course some of this might again be attributed to the fact that there isn't as much space for character development in a short story but maybe the author could have done more with the space she was given. Still worth a read though if you want to find out what happened to the Corsairs after Gilder Rift. 7/10 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The Violators definately deserved better. Not really Slaanesh-focused at all but still worth the read: The two short stories Extinction & Abaddon: Chosen of Chaos by ADB are both excellent and make my mouth water while I'm waiting for the real deal.
