R_P_R WiP [now playing] Police Truck - Dead Kennedys

WELCOME!!

This is where I have decided to try and keep a slow but productive collection of my progress painting.

So I guess this will be the spot that I post this years ETL stuff.

For my first vow, I am painting my Canis Wolfborn kitbash and a single Fenrisian wolf for his wargear. I also added ten (10) Fenrisian Wolves to the vow as I usually run that little blob of dorks together in games.

Here is the 'big man on campus' himself, Canis!!

http://i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/Khyron666/40K001-15.jpg

And in this picture, eleven of the primed white wolves will be completed.

So more to come as I make some progress.

Going to mass wash the fur and block some spots off on Canis's armor now. Expect more soon!!

So I just moved. To another state. I am still unpacking and settling in, but I managed to get out the wolves and the paints!! I also found that I now live roughly 20 minutes away from a GW shop!! And after an exhausting search for shops that play 40K and finding most of them play warmachine and/or infinity I was getting really disappointed...

Anyways, here's the updated pieces from a Vow that at the time was relevant. Now I don't even need Canis to play either forms of my army, I like my model though. I'll keep him!!

Canis:

Fangir and his little wolf buddy:

http://i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/Khyron666/40k001.jpg

10 Fenrisian Wolves:

http://i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/Khyron666/40k004.jpg

Everything is still WIP obviously. I am going to tackle the fen wolves heads next and basically finish them up before beginning the work on the Thunderwolf and lastly Canis himself. Thanks for looking!!

Thanks Baulder!! After seeing these photos up close I can see how rushed and sloppy some of the eyes look so I will be going back over them. Has anyone done touch up work over a thin matte finish?? How's it work and look once done??

Moar updates...

I wanted to edit here to say that the Fen wolf above is all done with shades. Kind of fun and super easy!!

Fangir is done, but my :censored: ability to take a good photo has thwarted me again. I'll take a few more tomorrow.

The Fen Wolf is going to be one of the two Fen wolves I will take with Canis if he retains the ability to do so in the new codex. It is needing details picked out.

And Canis is getting a make over. Decided to give the more traditional blue / grey a go. So far I hate painting it, it's not as forgiving of a color and it shows my poor painting skills better!!

Those Wolves look damn good! Love all the colour variations on their fur.

Haven't painted the 'traditional' blue Spaw Wolf scheme before so I can't give much advice, but I will say if you paint something like Nuln Oil or Agrax Earthshade into the recesses of Canis' armour it'll look much more defined. :)

Exactly what I am planning on doing Mikey. :)

I am basically going to follow the process detailed in this last White Dwarf, with a few personal touches added of course!! I just layed down the wash and it will look pretty good once I go back over the wash.

some people and their paint..... I wish I could go that crazy, but would just get sick of painting.

I'll take that as a compliment!! I get sick of painting real quick as well. So the fact that I have managed to keep motivation for longer than 2 weeks if pretty good for me!!

So that ended my ETL vow and now that I have the painting bug, I am going to use this thread for posting my musings and work in progress.

I have been painting Fenrisian Wolves along side my Thunderwolf Cavalry, as they are my next projects. I have so many terminators to paint I figured I can break the monotony of fur with some heavy armor as well!! So here's a few more wips.

I have been trying a different method for painting my fur. Using several intentionally placed coats of wash I wanted to make some very distinct looking wolves to balance the rest of the similar looking ones.

These are my red wolves-

Three Thunderwolf riders-

http://i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/Khyron666/wip1008.jpg

This is a VERY daunting task, indeed!!

Praying to Russ himself they all stay legal as far as wargear goes!!

Thanks for stopping by!!

So many wolfs.

I've always hated that head, but sculpting a beard on it makes it so much better. Nicely done. It looks like a proper space wolf head now, and you've got yourself a unique looking character.

Thanks Kvlt Ghost!! I thought the same thing. That head is actually one of my favorites... I know, I am in a minority on that. With the addition of the beard it really makes him more 'wolfy' and yes, unique.

I am picking up my codex today and will immediately pour over the TDAWG section to insure that my terminators are still legal. And also to pay for the Grimnar model so I can own it next Friday!! EXCITING!!

So this new direction that GW has sent the Sons of Russ plays right into my army's ascetics as they where before this release, and even more so afterwards!! The vision I have is one of scores of terminators crashing like waves upon my enemies. Accompanied by giant wolves rushing into the fray. And now with Logan atop a chariot pulled by Thunderwolves and donning his TDA, this army and my vision have come full circle.

I have 3 packs of long fangs and then the TWC riders, other than that, I don't play power armor. Not with my wolves. There is a little bit about my army in general.

Why are they deep blue??!! Long ago a good friend offered to paint a model for me. The metal Rune Priest had just been released and I love that model so I asked him to paint that one up for me. He asked if I had any specifics I wanted, and I declined. Needless to say, he painted him with deep blue armor and really the rest is history. He calls them 'Night Wolves', but I cannot come up with sufficient fluff to back that up so this is my reasoning. Once you are bestowed the honor of joining Logan Grimnars great company, you don not only the wolf in the stars, but the deep blue armor signifying the joining of his ranks. The rest of the companies are a standard armor color (what ever you want that to be...).

A little more progress!!

http://i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/Khyron666/40k004-2.jpg

http://i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/Khyron666/40k002-1.jpg

http://i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/Khyron666/40k003-2.jpg

Laid down some base color for the metal \m/ after base coating, washing and then going over the armor plates. I opted to paint 4 marines at once, and while I can do it, I prefer 3. Next time, 3. I need to sand the now dried putty on the thunderwolves themselves, and if it drys up later today, I will prime them too. If not, there is always tomorrow!!

I am going to try and stick with regular updates, but I have not had the best of luck in the past... I told myself (by 'myself', I mean my wife) I would finish painting the models I have before buying any more (what she doesn't know, can't hurt her?? O.O ) and that is a tactic that seems to be working for me currently!! Although I will be picking up Bjorn and Logan in the next couple of days!! SO there goes that...

I really like your fenrisian wolves. Personally, I am not a fan of the model and think they're really hard to make look good! Your wolves benefit GREATLY from the 2/3 tone scheme... I especially like the black/grey and dark brown ones.

ZOOZ:

Fen wolves where primed white then I hit them with blood for the blood god. I then layered several (2 or 3) coats of Sepia onto them and then finished them fur off with a dry brush of Ochre and then a brighter orange. I also experimented with using agrax earthshade on top of the BftBG, and it looks quite nice as well.

Skeletoro:

Thank you!! Mostly it is just a base color covered with washed and a little dry brushing!! Very simple process. Imma do a Tutorial next!!

Thank you both for the words of encouragement!!

I mentioned the base wash being Blood for the Blood God, it's not. It's the Bloodletter glaze. Which makes a lot more sense!! HAHA

Wraithwing: I paint my Wolves in that deep blue (Necron Abyss) and do minimal highlighting from there. This is what a finished model looks like:

So... it is so on. I have caught the painting bug finally!! I have decided to really start pushing harder to paint and it is paying off. I feel my chops coming back a bit and all that jazz.

Here is my new Wolf Lord!! I've yet to name him, but he will indeed carve a path through many enemy's!!

WIP:

And I got the first primer/basecoat down on the termis. I am magnetized the missing arms so I can ensure that I will indeed have a legal force!!

I am not the best photographer and do not have a light box... Expect me to bother you more with random pics again soon!!
