Tetnis pattern Brass Scorpion

Recommended Posts

Ever since I first saw the Brass Scorpion build in an old White Dwarf, Ive wanted to build one for my army

The Sons of Rust

Hailing from the daemon world of Tetnis, the dark mechanicus forges onworld churn out a near uncountable procession of daemon engines (as well as other nasty endeavors).

The warped minds at the forge have convinced me to share their hard work with you, in the hopes that more of these monstrosities stalk the galaxy and bring death and destruction to all.

Step 1:

buy/borrow/steal 2 defiler kits

Step 2:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307141549.jpg

assemble both hulls

Step 3:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307141550.jpg

assemble 8 of the legs, do not put the armor plates on them

Step 4:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307141550a.jpg

assemble 2 of the claw arms, put the armor on them

Step 5:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307141551.jpg

assemble a battle cannon, the black line shows where this needs to be cut

Step 6:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307141551a.jpg

the black line shows where 1 of the hull sections needs to be cut

Step 7:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307141552.jpg

the black section here needs to be cut/filed flat on both hulls (I used a large file with great results)

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307141700.jpg

like so

Step 8:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307141700a.jpg

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307141701.jpg

check out all the cool plastic your cutting up

Step 9:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307141741.jpg

The 2 hull pieces are glued back to back (the areas you filed flat) and the cut down cannon is put on the front

Step 10:

Wow, been working hard, get a drink

Step 11:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307141837.jpg

one of the extra claw armor is glued onto the back over the cut section

Step 12:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307141838.jpg

The 2 engine pieces are glued into the valley that is on the back

Step 13:

One drink is never enough

Step 14:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307141939.jpg

From the front section that was removed from the hull, cut off one of the female socket pieces

Step 15:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307141940.jpg

glue said piece onto the armor plate on the rear

Step 16:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307142001.jpg

these are the pieces you need to start building the tail, it is one claw arm piece nearly completely assembled and part of the second one

to get these to fit together you will need to trim some of the inside of the mostly complete arm

Step 17:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307142211.jpg

trim down the mount for the reaper

Step 18:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307142213.jpg

the now trimmed reaper mount is fitted into the shorter arm section, glued together, then inserted into the larger piece

Step 19:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307142228.jpg

cut the ammo belts of the 4 reapers, and the bayonets off of 2 of them

Step 20:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0307142320.jpg

assemble both of the heavy flamers (can be gargoyled for cool factor) trim the nubs off the mounts

Step 21:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0308141609.jpg

mount them to the bottom of the hull

Step 22 (optional):

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0308141610.jpg

cut some lengths of old bass strings, and go to town with a drill on the hull.

the idea is the string goes inbetween pairs of holes

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0308141655.jpg

like so

Step 23:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0314141508.jpg

Using a claw armor and 3 of the leg armor build the front armor, a pair of leg armor makes the rear

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0314141509.jpg

to get the front armor to fit right you will need to trim the front leg plate

Step 24:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0317141432.jpg

magnets are mounted in the ball of the tail, and corresponding magnet set in socket

Step 25:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0317141432a.jpg

greenstuff to fix some of the gaps

Step 26:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0317141433.jpg

hooks added to armored carapace to help cover the slots

Step 27:

 http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0317141434.jpg

add additional details, skulls,  chains, whatever gets you off

Step 28:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0317142046.jpg

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0317142047.jpg

assemble and prime

Step 29:

Have another well deserved drink and admire the bad-axe black beasty in front of you

Next stop...............

the Hall of Fame

see you there

Looking at this model a second time, I can't help but think that the tail needs some bulking up to give it girth; it looks weedy.

Then again, I'm comparing it to a real life scorpion- where the claw to tail size determines the deadliness of the venom (thicker the tail (more venomous), the smaller the claw and vice versa)

Interesting, I never knew about the relationship of tail/claw size and the potency of the poison

I guess for a Brass Scorpion it makes sense as the claws are str 10 and the tail gun is only str 6

I think the angle of the pictures and the all black doesnt due it justice

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh13/RevSteel/0510141652.jpg

although not finished I think this pic shows the size better
