Templar1's Blood Angels

Templar1

Greetings all!

I'm primarily an Imperial Fist/Black Templar guy, but my original army when I started playing in 3rd edition was Blood Angels. The army is long since gone, so I decided with all the new stuff coming out to go back to my roots, as it were, and collect a Blood Angels army. Of course this happened while this painting competition is going on so...it all works out, eh? Here are the "before" picture for my painting vow. Finished pictures soon!

I have yet to assemble the Stormraven Gunship, but everything else is ready to go. I think I'm going to add a few etched brass inquisition symbols to the librarian dread and the Stormraven before I build them, to reflect Deathwatch stuff. The Vanguard Vets have already been "suped up" with the GW deathwatch kit (I love the inquisition and Deathwatch, so adding in a kill team to my BA force is mandatory, right? ;) ). Finished pics to come soon!

Welcome aboard, Brother. Your Angels are coming along rather nicely!

The DC kit is so nice for kitbashing, isn't it? smile.png

Good lord, the BA plastic kits are amazing for spare parts and other goodies. Also the positions and pieces make for some very nice and dynamic poses. I -LOVE- these kits. They've come a long way from the old metal Death Company, eh?

I like the way you pose your minis, you have a good sense for natural movement.

Thanks! They're super fun to assemble. In truth a lot of the poses come from me seeing an example citadel model and going, "Ooh that's a col pose. Let me try to find these pieces on the sprue and build that."

Update: The Stormraven got Deathwatchified. Since it's going to transport the Vanguard Vets/deathwatch, I figured why not, eh? (And also I can use them with my other space marine armies too...shhhhhhh.) Pics of it soon, just got off work and need time to recuperate!

Okay, the Stormraven is finished. By the way, the etched brass inquisition plates are awesome, though you can't see the writing on them in the picture.

I also had to give the pilot the appropriate Deathwatch shoulderpad and full treatment. ;).

TRAITOR!!!

Now that we have that out of the way...

Not bad, over all, but the painting is a bit too minimal for my taste.  A lot of gubs are just left red (or gold, on the Sanguinary Guard).  The one that pops out at me the most is the Jump Pack straps across the chest.  I think they'd pop a lot more with a quick metal paintjob.

Other things are kind of inconsistent: Jump Pack vents are black on the general marines, but just left red on the Priests.

Not a huge fan of the black eyes, either.

My nit picking aside, it's still a perfectly good tabletop standard!  :)

Duly noted. I actually have the eyes as dark angel's green but it's really hard to tell. I didn't see the inconsistency in the jump packs before, I'll go back and fix it when I have the time. Thanks for the input!
