You're truly the queen of hobby around these parts. The butterfly queen, but still

Awww thank ya Auggi :blush.:

Just want to share the base I started for my Warlord - nothing big, something quite simple and the first time I used special sand glue!

MVEm9ho.jpg

GW also shared the official sprues today so I can add my two cents regarding them:

Legs are highly poseable (which could actually become a problem for less experienced hobbyists!), all four weapons have magnet holes (5x1 mm). The head also has a hole for a magnet on one side, you just need to fill the empty space of the head with a ball of greenstuff and another magnet to make that one customizable too. Kit includes two different eye-parts and two variants for the head armour (one with less trim). You can airbrush all the armour parts on the sprue too!

For building - the model went together awesomely well, besides a little part on the torso (basically the undersite connecting with the bigger glued part) that pinched a bit. Don't remember the last time I worked with such a standard (angrily looking at you Stormcast Eternals "Easy" to Build Kits :dry.:).

Base is cool. What is this special sand glue? I don't think I can use the mechanicum bases from GW when I get some of these pretties so I'll be going back to making bases using some sand glued down. However, after some time my glue just seems to peel from the bases and takes the sand with it so I am open to new products to avoid that headache.

I need them to open this up to preorder so I can see your work on your legion!

Neat

Yaw :smile.:

"Butterfly Queen"

Now you have to work that into a paint scheme

Oh, I totally have to. Just need to think about something, lol.

I got the following glue - it's from a german company but you can get it on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Scenery-Adhesive-Applicator-Pipette-125ml/dp/B000KG5U86/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1533832425&sr=8-1&keywords=Busch+7593

And yeah, not so long to go! Currently still working on the trim, so I guess I should reach the transfer sheets/weathering stage 'till Saturday. Also managed to order some 32mm sheets from Forgeworld for Legio Gryphonicus, Legio Fureans and Houses Malinax and Vyronii. Should find some useful decals for the AT scale on them too, especially for Warlord and Imperator Titans

Thanks for the link. I will probably have to check it out! I went cross-eyed for a second thinking it was 17ml bottle for $33. 125ml is like a small baby bottle so that's not bad. I has to be that high-tech, German-engineered goodness! Probably better idea than me super gluing sand to the base too.

And the wait is killing me inside. I think I will bite the bullet and get the starter if it doesn't sell out in the blink of an eye with preorders. I would like to go with Legio Mortis since I'm just a tad bit more familiar with them due to the Dies Irae but I do not think I will be able to use a bunch of their FW transfers. I may stick a few smaller SoH brass etch though to show off their allegiances, if that's something they do. I actually need to read up on titan legions and knights to be honest. I just know them as the god machines with all the firepower. And bet your bottom dollar I cannot wait to see your titans painted up!

Never was a fan of the classic "super glue technique" and this worked wonderfully for me - can only recommend it!

Yeah, the Legio Mortis transfers look a bit too big for the Warlord, but may be the right size for the Dies Irae . Better get them now before they went to Last Chance to Buy :dry.:.

Speaking about the Death's Heads - they will be my primary traitor Legio! Just not sure what red to use, the artworks in the rulebook show both darker Word Bearer red and a lighter tone:

If you can wait a little bit longer with weathering - Forgeworld is gonna release full coloured AT scale transfers down the line, ...

... while the Warlord kit has black and white decals in the box! You can actually see them in the new White Dwarf already:

Yeah, super glue method was out of desperation. I would apply Elmer's glue to the base and use an old brush to get it in all the nooks and crannies before a dip in a sand pot. After time the glue just came off the bases and it was terrible. Even more so since all my minis had been done this way. So I am definitely going to have to pick up a bottle of that glue sand so I can do bases properly for these beasties. I may have to ebay hunt for some old epic vehicles for ruins on their bases too :whistling:

And I'm kind of on the fence with a FW purchase. It's mostly stuff I want more that I actually need it. The LCTB updates have whittled it away considerably. I may wait now though if FW will do AT transfer sheets since I *will* need those :) Thanks for sharing that! Andspeaking of how the current titan transfer could work on the Dies Irae... well, I'd lose my mind if they did an Imperator...

As for colors I have no clue where to start. I read back a few posts about you looking for ways folks painted Red Scorpions. I remember their used to be a grey base(?) color that was perfect for RS after a few highlights and a black wash but that was 1 or 2 paint line revisions ago. The pictures you posted of two Death Head titans look like they have a blu-ish hue though if my eyes aren't deceiving me. I wonder if I can sneak some incubi darkness in there with some grey? And for red, I personally like the darker tone.

Yep, structure paints are another cool alternative, but pricey, so if you want to work with sand (which also is more fine than the GW structure technicals) the glue is the way to go, imo!

The game needs to sell first, but an AT Imperator wouldn't be bigger than the 32mm scale Warlord, I guess!

Corvus Black from the FW airbrush range is basically exactly that colour - sadly it's no longer available :wallbash:. Think I got two or three pots for my Raven Guard back than, but not sure if that's enough for my planned Maniple.

Glue and sand is the way I'll be going. I think I have had that pot of sand for the last 10 years and I am barely 1/2 through it despite all the stuff I've built. Need to put it to use

I really hope this game does sell well and they can keep it interesting. I am very happy that specialist games are back. All I need now is BFG and I am set. If I can really dream give me Mordheim! For AT I wonder what they can do to add besides some variant chassis, weapons, and stuff like an imperator. If they did an Imperator at this scale it would still be a big puppy but it would be cool to check out.

And the LCTB for their paints has claimed another victim!

Howdy Guys and Girls :smile.:

Tick tock, clock is up. I'm finally allowed to share my work with you - and of course I documented the journey so far!

U4eJahK.jpg

The glorious sprues - freshly out of the box! Thanks to talk with the Specialist Games Team I knew that the plates can be painted on the sprue, while the weapons have magnet holes in it already (5x1mm!). Chris Drew designed the kit aswell as the Warhound and Reaver - almost two years of work if I remember it correctly. He choose to made them as expandable as possible - skeletton on one, main plates on another and head plus weapons on the third. Reason is to allow for upgrade sprues and special character Titans in the future!

Testing the pose of the legs!

Fun with magnets - the full picture :biggrin.:

giC79yw.jpg

Grey plates and metallic parts were primed black, Yellow plates white. Here's the original colour tester I did for the yellow - White Primer -> Ushabti Bone -> Ushabti Bone/White mix -> pure White -> layers of Lamanters Yellow. As with the FW clear technique, you need a few layers of yellow to make it work.

PjRAsYl.jpg

zTyfJZi.jpg

I originally also experimented with orange toning but decided against it as it were too much "Legio Fureans".

Kb4vd3P.jpg

The grey was done with a primer of Chaos Black -> Mechanicus Standard Grey -> Dawnstone.

Working with masking tapes to get the iconic stripes on the legs :smile.:

Looking nice! If you'd like, I could write an expansion for my 10mm skirmish system T.A.C.T.I.C.A.L system for 40k. Half the work is already done for me since the options are defined, I just have to translate profiles and assign points.

Looking good

Glad you like her :)

I commend your painting skills. The Iron Regent looks great.

Thank ya Bjorn!

Yeeeaassss! Praise the Omnissiah indeed!

Paint job is looking awesome! Going to stare at your progress and anxiously await updates!

Nothing big, but I finished the rust streaking. Now I can add all the plates to the model! You can also nicely see that I decided to use magnets for all four weapons and the head (which is a little bit more work as you need to add a greenstuff-ball to the head itself, but nothing major!).

Cool! What I actually really really need are rules for Eldar Titans. Today's my Birthday and I got two Grand Masters Editions for pre-order aswell as a teaser picture of something cute on the way to me:

Thank you everyone :smile.:

Iron Regent is pretty much done so far - she will get another update once full coloured transfer sheets are out, so weapon shields, shoulderpads and heraldic shields are still WIP! Hope you like her :smile.:

Legio Gryphonicus, Warlord Battle Titan, Mars-Alpha pattern

The Belicosa pattern Volcano cannon is one of the most potent energy weapons produced by the forges of the Mechanicum, short of the continent-razing guns mounted on the warships of the Imperialis Armada. It is a weapon so fearsome that only the plasma reactor of a mighty Warlord Titan can feed its ravenous appetite for power and make possible the destruction of the most terrible foes of Mankind.

Owing its origins to the ancient days of the Age of Strife and the Mechanicum's domination of the Red Planet, the Mars-Alpha was perhaps the oldest and most widespread pattern of Battle Titan deployed during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy. The secrets of this terrifyingly powerful war machine's construction were held on numerous major Forge Worlds such as Gryphone IV, Metalica and Anvillus as well as great Mars itself, and it formed the backbone of the Legio Titanicus.
