Voxxel Posted June 1, 2014 Share Posted June 1, 2014 Greetings all! Recently I continued to paint my Blood Angels army after a 'short break' of 3 years. This is basicly my first real army, but I did own some warhammer before when I was still in elementary school 15+ years ago. Painting is my main love for the hobby, but I never completed much models. And to quote myself from the introduction forum: "Luckily a few weeks ago through a friend of mine I met Augustus b'Raas, who is active here, and this rekindled my interest for the hobby again! Now with a few friends to share my enthusiasm I plan on continuing my Blood Angels army and make them as awesome as posible!" To keep myself even more motivated I also made a vow in this years ETL: I Voxxel answer the call of E TENEBRAE LUX and vow to complete: 1x Captain w/ power sword & plasma pistol (130 pts.) 1x Dreadnought (105 pts.) From Blood Angel Codex of total value 235 on or before August 1st. Success will bring eternal glory to the Sanguinius and the Blood Angels and failure will doom me to bear the Badge of Shame until the year-end. Whoops, I reorganised my photobucket albums, that messed up the links. They are up again! Those Tactical Marines look pretty damn good. Better even than the other squads, in my mind. I think we can all agree that the Blood Angels are just emulating the Word Bearers and your pseudo Word Bearers look good. A comment on your own self-criticism - I do feel like the terminators could benefit from a bright spot colour. They're mostly red and black now... Augustus b'Raass Posted June 2, 2014 Share Posted June 2, 2014 Blue contrasts beautifully with red, so maybe the leather tabards a dark blue? But BA devastators have blue helmets, so perhaps you should make something more white -as in veteran white. The last picture was made in the evening, so the light is a bit off. The only thing left now are the bases. Voxxel Posted June 3, 2014 Author Share Posted June 3, 2014 My terminators are finally finished and with them all the models I started 3 years ago! All the chapter/company/squad markers will be done after I finish the captain and dreadnought. To be honest I still haven't decided which company they should belong to. (see first post) Your feedback is highly appreciated! So with these finally finised, it's time for something new! I'll start working on the Captain I slightly converted from the AoBR set. I changed his head, sword and pistol with bits from the death company kit to make him look more like a Blood Angel. Judging by your painting skills; you could easily produce better looking bases. Just personal taste, no offence meant. You could put some decals on your marines. Actually after finishing the terminators, the bases also felt a bit bland to me. But the bases of these 3 squads are the first I ever did and I'm unsure how to make them better. I want to keep them level with the plastic base, so no cork or anything underneath their feet. That is only for the special guys Any thoughts? Also I need your advice brothers! I'm working on the captain right now, but I'm still trying to figure out the colors, mainly on his helmet, shoulderpads and trim. I want to make him stand out from the rest, but within the prescribed lore of the Blood Angels. The problem is however, there is nothing in the codex which states what captains should look like. Here is a WIP shot, with numbers of the area's I'm still figuring out. batu Posted June 6, 2014 Share Posted June 6, 2014 For the bases I would recommend tufts. Just leave them as they are; just put some tufts on there. Maybe 1-3 different colors. A pigment wash could add some variation. Either just a splatter here and there, or different pigment colors mixed up a bit. I like your choices regarding the captain. You could throw your company color in there. Maybe the cloak? Or the helmet, although cold is a very solid choise for BAs I think. I think the company colors for BA are: Yellow: 2nd, 6th White: 1st, 3rd , 7th Green: 4th, 8th Black: 5th, 9th I hope I could help a little.
