Clone Posted June 3, 2014 Share Posted June 3, 2014 Hello fellow Lords, Sorcerers, Champions and Daemonic beings of all kinds. With the advent of 7th edition and the changing of the allies matrix I have taken it upon myself to create a Chaos Knight. I was going to start a Traitor Guard force so I could ally in one of these beasts but now I don't have to go that route (they're both Come the Apocalypse and its cheaper buying a Knight than a whole IG force). I have ordered a ton of bits and a leviathan mauler claw from dreamforge gaming. My basic plan is to make a Knight Errant with a Power Claw and bedecked with chains, skulls, 8 pointed stars and spikes (its not chaos till its got spikes on it ). I haven't settled on a colour scheme yet but I have been flirting with the idea of a Mechanicum Knight that joined Legio Mortis and so followed the Legio when they sided with Horus during the Heresy. This would mean I am looking at predominantly red and black but with some white thrown in too. There is a large skull on the transfer sheet that comes with the Knight which would fit in with the Legio Mortis theme. The 15mm scale leviathan looked a little too small to match up weapons with a knight (it's close to dread knight scale) so I opted for the 28mm scale claw. I'll see how it goes but I always think that a power fist should be oversized, looks more menacing. I'll try a fit in a squashed marine or two. Maybe have one hanging out the wreckage. Nice. I can't wait to see how this goes!!! :D Been considering getting one of these and doing the same, even had similar ideas for the base but could not convince myself as there is not much precedent for it and it's a big investment. Like I would hate to get it wrong, it's such a massive modelling opportunity I would want to do it justice. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this goes though. Clone Posted June 3, 2014 Author Share Posted June 3, 2014 Well, I got carried away. I was supposed to take it slow and post step by step photos of how I made this but I couldn't help myself. Once I got in the zone, I had to keep going. Still needs some work, filing down areas, added chaos bits, etc, but this is what he looks like so far: http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a521/ralphgeddes/f06997b0-12f0-49a1-8455-acba12cfd5fb_zps32853bc1.jpg I filied down the mask completely so it looks like an actual skull, even cut away the mouth grill to give it some spikey teeth. I think the claw matches up pretty well and fits what I had in my mind, I think the 15mm scale claw would've looked too small so I'm pretty happy. I will add some more pipes and pistons to where the claw meets with the shoulder joint to give the look of added strength. The thermal and battle cannons are also magentised so I can interchange them between battles. Just need to wait my bits to arrive so I can get painting! Just need to give the guy a name! Shifte Posted June 3, 2014 Share Posted June 3, 2014 Looks awesome. I built three Chaos Knights myself - but mine are basically regular Knights with the eagles etc replaced with some spikes. Clone Posted June 4, 2014 Author Share Posted June 4, 2014 I will be painting this beast but I'm still waiting for my bits order to arrive so I won't start painting just yet. I'm considering glueing the arms in place. They are posable at the moment but they tend to flop about when I move the knight, especially the claw as it's quite heavy. What do you guys think? A little more weight and lean of the body section onto its left leg (the one crushing the rhino)....I don't know I think that may just work? Other than that its cracking! LOVING THE CLAW! Good job, I always find (this sounds embarrassing now! ) that if you try out the pose you are trying achieve yourself, you get a greater idea if its viable.
