"Captain, we are closing in on the defense platform, we're roughly 200 KM out." Voxed the thunderhawk pilot

"Excellent, maintain heading". Biddale looked towards his retinue, "Prepare yourselves for breach and clear. We will blast through the exterior wall and clear any enemies within the area. We must proceed with much haste. You see that damned huge armada out there?" Biddale pointed out towards the Sentinels' ships "We need them to get closer so they can open a God-Emperor damn hole in the enemy defences so we can insert our armour and assault teams on the ground; and they're not moving until we remove these bastards from the defense platforms." Biddale explained

"Understood, Captain. It shall be done." Replied Seargent Brooks.

"Progress report, pilot." Biddale shouted over the roar of the vessel's engines.

"30 Kilometres and closing, sir!" The pilot yelled back.

"Take us upto to ramming speed! We're going to rip a hole through this damned place and leave no pirate scum standing!" Biddale ordered.

The ship accelerated and crashed through the wall of the defense platform's facility. Debris flew everywhere, crushing men. As the air rushed out into void many men died from suffocation.

The ramp opened up on the thunderhawk and Biddale and squad Brooks stormed from the vessel into the facility.

They stormed down the corridor and had encountered little resistance on the way to the control room.

"Captain, permission to speak freely." Said Sergeant Brooks

"Granted" Biddale replied.

"It is strange that we have encountered little in the way of resistance to this control room. This is an important objective in taking the planet." Said Brooks

"Indeed, Sergeant. But that is not my concern, we must shut down the defense so the Sentinels may advance. Perhaps the Emperor smiles upon us and has granted us the fortune of an easy victory." said Biddale.

"Understood, sir".

Biddale strode into the control room upto the weapons interface. He accessed the interface and deactivated the weapons.

"Sergeant, bring me the vox caster." Biddale ordered "Captain Grant, status report"

There was no response.

"Repeat, Captain Grant, status report."

The line was dead

What ill fate had befallen Captain Grant?

"The captain is not responding prepare for assau-" Biddale had been interrupted by a peculiar sound.

He turned around and noticed the interface he just used was flashing red.

"Oh :cuss , it's a trap! The platform was only a decoy, it's a bomb! Withdraw to the thunderhawk we need to leave now!" Biddale commanded

Biddale and his men ran as quick as the could to the thunderhawk. However, they were not quick enough and were caught in the explosion.

Aboard the Philadelphia the was massive shock.

Veteran-sergeant Gavros had been expediently placed in command of the Eagles forces.

"Open a comms link with the Sentinels, we must tell them it was a trap and that the guns are still online!"

I think most of those in the explosion should survive it. But be unable to help until they are rescued and healed up, (no man left behind and all that), if for no other reason than we keep losing a lot here in the cluster. Good stuff though.

Indeed we keep losing a lot of forces but if a station is rigged to self destruct, I'd be surprised (outside of a little cleverness by the author) if marines would survive that.

It could have been shaped charges, the same devasting force but only directed towards the target. I could see the Lions pulling an Iron Cage on attackers, drawing them in to the centre of the facility then springing a trap once they're inside with no way out but through the revealed Lions.

They'd probably have set up a fake command centre for the ambush or have secondary command centre elsewhere as well.

I just got the impression several rooms were rigged with explosives, not the entire station. I agree that an entire station exploding would probably kill the marines.

So, with things slowing down somewhat since the surge of the first month, I'd like to ask if more collaboration between us is planned (vis a vis the IA articles). If so then I'll hold fire on my Conflagrators but if not, I'm of a mind to expand on their article.

Alright, how about we kick in a little voluntary content creation while we wait for some of our fraters to catch up or prepare for later? Maybe... some expansion of what has been written already, such as adding history to a particular world or fleshing out an off-hand comment. Anyone down for that?

I think you should start exporting some of that over to here when thing's go quite. Content is always appreciated. ;)

(It'll also give me an opportunity to read it piecemeal instead of trying to have at it all in one go... :P )

I was going to, but I didn't want to intrude too much on the Eighteen Worlds Campaign stuff (which has been super enjoyable to read). Saying that, one of the stories in there is set during the Campaign, so yeah, I could have probably just done that...

Thanks for all the positive feedback!

The body of Chapter Master Kaunaz was shot into the void, along with twenty other purpose constructed funerary torpedos. The chaplaincy of the Doomsayers spoke the rites of guiding and wished the souls of the dead a swift journey to Guilliman.

1st Captain Nauthiz, now acting chapter master, addressed the remaining Doomsayers across a fleet wide vox.

"Doom is upon us. We have suffered at the hands of our enemies and now it is their turn to suffer in kind. We shall not sit idle, my brothers, for today we take the fight to the Den of the Lion. Vengeance will be ours. Vengeance for Kaunaz, Vengeance for the fallen! Tge last words to ring in the ears of the Lions of Seraki, brothers, We Bring Your Doom!"

A tear in the warp opened, and the engine flares of 40 vessels made all haste

My Lord Inqusitor-General Jaegund Varaqut of the Ordo Malleus, hallowed and storied are you in the God-Emperor’s service. In response to your request, in light of the incident known as the Vainbliss Anomaly [REF//8X45833.1e.1/4468945.M37], a report has been compiled of the force currently known as the Prowl’s last known sighting within the Liber Cluster Sector, Segmentum Solar. Within you will find that many firsthand accounts were meticulously well kept, suffering only 41% degradation. Multiple addendums have been attached, incorporating all known knowledge about the groups involved. Be advised, Addendums 3417.4c and 5572.2k cost me the lives of two of my savants, and continued data recollection was only able to continue after extensive re-consecration, warding and wasted months of my time.

In the process of compiling the report, an index/timeline of sorts was created. I provide that to you as well, to aid you in seeing the greater whole. I regret that I am unable to dedicate further time providing more aids, as I am sure you will no doubt require. The next time you wish me locked away on a single task for a year, I expect your four best savants in replacement.

[NOTE: THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXERPT FROM 4TH ADMIRAL HAISID EL WINNT’S PERSONAL ACCOUNTING OF THE SECOND BATTLE FOR EVIN PRIME]

The 14th Cluster Reclamation Assault Fleet exited the Immaterium two days travel sublight from Evin Prime, near Evin Nonus. Auguries revealed engine signatures matching in number and class those reported by the Chapter of the Lords Inviolate twenty days prior, ship-time. Inspection of local star charts revealed that the fleet arrived four years off-schedule, likely due to heavy turbulence reported by our Navigator. Auguries failed to locate Imperial ships left in-system, though many husks in orbit match specifications. At least a tenth of the former 89th Cluster Reclamation Assault Fleet remains unaccounted for, including entire Sons of Calderon fleet. Initial reconnaissance fleets revealed no ongoing signs of battle. Reports received from ground forces following the second war elaborated on uncovered ruins on former sites of battle. Abandoned dead, Imperial or otherwise, found in large numbers, equipment and armor heavily scavenged. Analysis shows that conflicts ended potentially one year prior to our arrival. No sign of the Sons of Calderon, dead or living, was found. Warp signatures bearing close resemblance to the ships of the Sons of Calderon was sensed around Evin Prime, however the signatures were too old and weak to reveal direction or potential destination. It is to my understanding that the 27th Cluster Reclamation Recon Fleet has been retasked with seeking the Sons of Calderon, if any yet remain. Excise that last part from the recording, First Officer.

[inquisitor Varaqut, I must wonder. It has been two and a half millennia since the last sighting of the former Adeptus Astartes Chapter, the Sons of Calderon. What evidence did you uncover following the Vainbliss Anomaly that leads you to believe they have returned? What reports I have seen show the renegade Space Marines to be a far departure from their former identity, if true. DM-K]

That's a helluva lot of casualties. Good write-up, Cormac. So, now we've lost the Sons of Calderon, eh? The Conflagrators are not going to take the news of three fellow chapters succumbing in this crusade (or supposedly succumbing) very well at all. They've still got 80% of the chapter still to deploy, theoretically.
