tips for removing liquid mask?

Recommended Posts

Hey there.

I've been playing around with masking fluid (the Vallejo one) and I'm having a blast with it. There's certainly a learning curve but it seems to have so much potential.

Anyway, I am trying to speed up the application/removal process and minimizing the fuss, as well as the potential damage to the underlying layers, that can be involved in trying the get the mask off. It tends to get stuck in heavily textured parts of a model, in particular, gaps behind belt pouches, grenades etc. Blue tack is pretty good for removing it, but it's still quite time consuming.

Any tips?

I'm considering trying to use white spirits to remove it. Will this work? Obviously I will need to thoroughly varnish under the masking fluid. But I am already doing that to protect the paint underneath and because I plan on using oil washes.
