Either I feel like it's too much to be bothered to paint or too much detail to detract from the mini. Well after 5 minutes of submitting my last post here I already CAVED IN and ordered more paints and supplies. I did remove all the xenos and terrain pieces from my cart so that should make the wife happy when she sees the bill. ( I try to for-warn her of any big hobby purchases - I learned my lesson when I bought Space Hulk off ebay for an extortionate amount a few years ago. ) Anyways my new goal is no new minis until DV set + the DA Dread are finished and I post at least ONE Battle report here even if it's a small one. GW website is crack....especially for a recently former smoker like myself...other day I had like $900 worth of stuff in the cart that ill never order :( and deleted them one by one as I realized im married...and broke...and have kids..and poor...haha Im working on another tac squad, an AoBR Venerable Dread conversion(complete with scratchbuilt autocannon/time sink), a belial conversion...an assault squad...and the more I work on..the more ideas I have and try to get started! Asmodai...devastators....an interrogator chaplain...balthazar conversion... two more DV termie squads...piecing together deathwing knights from eBay... and I already have a bunch of stuff thats only primed! and I've still never had a battle to batrep yet :( stupid kid soccer ruining my saturdays >.> Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I had $200 worth of paint in the cart I had to knock down to 50. My wife told me it would be cheaper if I had a drinking problem instead. There is always a glimmer of hope. I managed to get her to play 2 games last night. Not counting lots of Space Hulk - it's my first 40k game since the mid 90s! To be fair I wouldn't even call it Kill Teams as it was so small. We just played 5 tac marines vs. 12 cultists on a small desk. ( i let her play marines ) Still it was good enough to show her ( and remind me ) how the mechanics of the game work. Maybe I can taunt her into a rematch this weekend. Got to remember baby steps though! Other than that not much to report paint wise. I have a tac squad, ravenwing squad and 2 characters primed and ready to go. More ravenwing are on the way. I guess going points per amount of effort I should start with the Chapter Master & Chaplain, then the Tacs and then Bikes since bikes take forever. Really happy with the way this turned out. Been thinning my paints to wash consistency and couldn't be happier with the results. Used Warpstone green for the lenses. It's hard to tell in the pic. I was thinking about making more of a glowing effect but at this point I'm really happy with how he looks. Check out my jersey barrier background. I'm not a huge fan of the massive winged helmets. Robes yes, ridiculously tall helmets no. I keep thinking of these guys running around a Space Hulk smacking their heads on every bulkhead door. Got some green out today and also started black lining the tac marines. Also got some robes painted. Looking back at my previous post I just realized I forgot to paint the plasma gunners arm. Also f'd up the power sword because i took the masking tape off too soon. Shaded the rest of the squad and then got out the Khorne Red and U. Bone. I went back and painted the stuff I missed. Seems like I'm always missing something - painting a arm or a mold-line I missed. So I'm finishing up my 5th company markings and highlights when I came across the new White Dwarf... Yeah it's all airbrushed I am slowly switching over to vallejo paints but for the greens it's all GW. 1) base of Caliban Green, 2) 45 deg. zenithal highlight using Caliban Green / Loren Forest 50-50 mix. 3) Top highlight of Loren Forest. 4) Wash with Nuln Oil 5) edge highlighted with Elysian Green. I'm not a fan of the neon moot green edge highlights. For these last guys I've gone back and darkening up some areas after edge highlighting. Not sure about the lighting in the photo but I did this for the Sgt. above. For this I made a glaze with Caliban Green, glaze medium and a drop of nuln oil mainly because I don't have a store nearby. I've been experimenting with Vallejo Heavy Black Green and I plan on swapping that for Caliban as soon as I finish off what I have. I'm really digging Vallejo paints - to me they are a bit more consistent and almost half the price. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

VMA Midouri green is a little too yellow-green, so I need to see if I can find a proper Vallejo equivalent for Caliban. I love the caliban colour, I just hate working with it through an airbrush. Once you thin it it works great, but it's hard to dose out of those stupid GW paint pots. I'll add Heavy black green to my shopping list and try that out, other than that I've heard Olive green can be similar to Caliban over a black basecoat.
