That is.... Art!

An entire army like that and i'd happily take -1 to all my Ld Tests!

Haha, thank you. :happy.:

Bob you continue to knock it out of the park. I have to say thanks for the guides and inspiration. It's allowed me to start building my own LED marines, and got me into both casting and electronics.

Keep up the good work, gives us all something to aim for!

Wow, thank you binary, I'm flattered by this glowing praise (no pun intended). :happy.:  I'm really pleased my tutorials have been useful to someone! :) I'd love to see your LED Marines; do you have a log that you could post a link to here, or could you DM me some pics please? :happy.:

Well Bob I am afraid you are going to have to retire now, that one is going to be hard to beat for sure. Sheer insanity.

Heh, thank you. :) I'm not done yet though, still more to come from Team Fisto, plus 40K Primaris Marines and 30K Sons of Horus...

Primaris 'Lt. Example' meets Team Fisto

http://i.imgur.com/l5fJKo3.jpg

Is it me, or are the Primaris Marines a bit...small?

Haha, joking aside, it was interesting to finally compare a Primaris Marine to a member of Team Fisto over the weekend. If I'm honest, the Primaris Marine is probably better proportioned. But the Primaris are definitely slighter than my Marines, with thinner legs, narrower torso and smaller shoulder pads. The latter is not surprising as the Primaris shoulder pads are apparently designed to be compatible with existing shoulder pads, while Fisto pads are made from modified Terminator shoulder pads. The only things that were bigger on the Primaris were the backpack and bolter!

Still, it's not a size contest. I was just a little surprised, after all the hype, I was expecting them to be equal or slightly taller than existing true scale stuff. Anyway, I've now begun work on my Crimson Fist Primaris Team Fisto side project. It's very refreshing to assemble model (mostly) as intended from a sprue with instructions for a change!

Thank you for that! This is what I've been waiting to see. A lot of my projects are on hold while I wait to see how the Primaris Marines scale.

This picture I took before showing our methods side-by-side allows me to put things into perspective:

I'm sort of surprised how tall they are, but as you say they're very narrow in the chest compared to my Marines. Thin legs too!

I want to have a look at the Gravis armour to see how that measures up.

Here's my first finished Primaris Space Marine. :smile.: I've decided to paint the models from the Dark Imperium box as Crimson Fists. I've always liked Crimson Fists, and it allows them to be part of Team Fisto without stepping on the toes of the Heresy-era Imperial Fists. :smile.: As you can see I've given it my normal eye lens and muzzle flare treatment.

On a different subject, I'm slowly repairing all the broken images caused by the change in Photobucket's terms of service, so please bear with me while I slowly go through this thread and edit all my old posts...

The Fist is looking well, glad they can go and play with the rest of the models.

Fair play for replacing all the images and all.

One of your best I think, Bob! Very cool indeed. The darker shots are very atmospheric!

Very much a fan!

Oooooooh yes.

Really love the idea of using a CF for your primaris.

Thanks very much everyone! Yes the low-light photo at the end is one of my favourites so far too. :smile.: I had a comment on Instagram that the eye lenses might be a little bit too large, which on reflection is possibly true. :smile.: I'm fairly sure I followed the physical outline of the lenses closely on the actual model, but will take a closer look at this with the next one and see if I can determine whether it was sloppy painting or just a bit of diffraction.

Excellent work on the Crimson Fist. Will you include Templars as well, and recreate the Imperial Fists Legion as part of a revised Last Wall?

Interesting idea! :happy.: To be honest, probably not. I have enough "fragments" of different armies as it is. Having said that, I think the Excoriators are awesome so I may throw a squad of them into the mix somewhere at some point...

That is amazing! Do you have any WIP pics? I'd love to see how all the electronics are hidden so well on the model!

Thank you! :happy.: As Thousand Eye's kindly pointed out, there's a WIP guide back on the first page of the log. My general 'design philosophy' for these models is to make the wires as well hidden as possible. That way it's almost like a magic trick; people look at them and say "wow, how did you do that, where are the wires?". It all adds to the illusion.

The CF looks great, with the lights it's very moody.

Thanks very much. :smile.:

Wonderful as usual bob. Glad to see you back at it, and as usual so full of atmosphere and character.

And while I may have beaten you to it on the jump packs and auspex, I'm really looking forward to what you do with a power weapon

Quick question if I may. The motorised assault cannon you built for the contemptor. Was it difficult to build? Want to add a pair with flashing LED to my upcoming land raider crusader and thought I'd ask the masters advice!

Thanks for those kind words, binary. :) Yes, the power weapon is proving one of the most fiddly things yet, but I hope to show it sometime next week.

I'm always happy to answer questions. ;) The assault cannon was pretty tricky, but that was mainly because I was using the resin FW assault cannon. It would probably be a lot easier with a plastic version. With the resin one, I ended up 3D printing a base for the resin barrels to sit on and attach to the shaft of the motor. I had to do this because the resin barrels were not flat at the end I was attaching to the motor. 3D printing the adaptor also meant that I could be sure the hole for the shaft to interface with was exactly central. But, as I say, this may not be necessary when using plastic assault cannon barrels. Also you are going to have an easier time hiding the motor in the hull of a Land Raider than I did in the arm of a Dreadnought. :)

My main tips for motorising assault cannons would be as follows:

1. Make sure your certain that you attached the motor shaft as dead centre as possible to the back of the assault cannon barrels.

2. Put the motor on an entirely different circuit from any of the LEDs.

3. Consider what sort of switch you want on the motor circuit - do you want a toggle on/off switch or a push button switch that only operates while you hold it down? I.e. do you want the barrels spinning all the time, or do you just want them spinning when you actually press the button, so you can press it when you shoot at something? :) (I put both options in the Contemptor)

Regarding flashing LEDs, I'd suggest not using flashing ones, simply because it's hard to find ones that flash fast enough and it will look weird if you have ones that flash at a slower rate than the gun barrels are spinning. ;) Still, that's a matter of personal taste really rather than a technical issue, so if you think you can pull if off then go for it! :biggrin.:

Another Legion Tactical Marine done. One more to go!

A lovely proud son of Dorn in the last update, Bob! :smile.:

Cheers dude. :happy.:
