Sorry for the delay in a reply Warriorfish. Here is the close up of the flight crew still with the original camo, I am more inclined to change them to the same scheme as the ground troops though.

And here is another wip update of the Valk. Its camo pattern is now set, after the hard learned lesson that I really don't like hard line camo, next vehicle will just be free hand with no masking off of areas, I had to spend an additional 3hr's just trying to blend the cam together.

Going to spend most of the day today getting the detail work finished as well as the cockpit. I am really trying to finish this project in time.

Flight Engineer with the wing removed. I couldn't think of a different pattern for them so they stayed as is. But now that I look at this guys face in the picture, I need to darken it up some more.

On a side note, I have never work with transfers before, but quite enjoyed the way they turned out, just need to get some decal fix to remove the glare. Sadly my poor crafted stencils didn't turn out the way I would have liked, but now I am just nit picking myself to death. Over all I am happy with the way this turned out.

Any C&C from the Masters of the AM would be greatly appreciated.

Loving it :)

The weathering is nice, the little details like the crew safety lines are great and the base... thumbsup.gif

For decals, I use a decal softener to allow the decals to bend around curves and a matt varnish to take off the gloss afterwards.

Brave attempt at the DIY stencils but unfortunately I don't think it worked out quite as well as you hoped but on the other hand it makes it look like they are crew applied :)

Very nice work.

I'll throw in my own decal technique: GW gloss varnish (a couple of coats) on the area where the decal will go. Apply the decal. Then a couple of coats of Lamian Medium to remove the gloss.

If you can get MicroSol and MicroSet(?) I hear those are better.

Revell make a version of MicroSol called Decal Softener and that is what I use. No idea if it is cheaper but it was easier to get hold of. ;)

Is this a UK thing? I hear many legends of microsol etc but I've never been able to find a good source! I gather it's almost essential if you want to go to greater transfer lengths (such as printing your own...).

The nose designation numbers were done with a stencil gone wrong and air brush. In the end my cutting and line work were far off the mark. Mind you it is lessons learned for when I get around to painting up the vulture.

@WarriorFish: picked the Revell decal Softener up in a model store in Germany but as they are a big name in plastic kits it should be available in the UK too.

Side note. I used to just slap the decal on the paint but I tried a layer of gloss varnish as a base last night and it works far better. Thanks to kierdale for the tip ;)

Happy Birthday to me, A buddy of mine ended up cleaning out his hobby space and sold me a bunch of his still in boxes Valkyries at a wonderful price that I simply could not refuse.

2 will be Vendetta's the rest Valkyries with 2 Vultures.

Now I swear hand on heart to the Emperor of mankind that this project log will be the sole project that I dedicate most of my free time to, and here is hoping that nothing comes up so that I will be able to finish all the aircraft and troops I have in time for the next ETL; as I would love to participate with the vast Divisions of the Imperial Guard in next years competition.

You could just play it as aesthetic, or pay 10pts which is the standard Heavy Bolter price. It's not tournament-legal, but who cares about that? Rule of Cool, man! :P

Also a belated happy birthday to you, HLVW! That's a whole lotta air support right there! :D

Thankyou all for the birthday wishes.

@CoffeeGrunt - I am looking forward to getting all these planes put together and seeing them all on a table top, personally I think it will look awesome. Question for you Coffee, if I were to get the Tauros campaign book from FW, would I be able to use it as one of the more up to date "codexs" for the the Elysians?

@Shamansky - It would be awesome if having a tail gunner were legal, but that model was really only made as a display piece.

I have managed to get some work done on my Valkyrie air wing, not as much as I would have liked but enough to be content. The painted one was already built but I took off a bunch of things so that it and one other will be permanent Vendettas, the third has been magnitized to allow for the different payloads.

I still need to go out and pick up some simple green, or purple (since I think it works faster) to strip the one Vendetta and Vulture. Other than that once these are good to go, I think I will work on a Sentinel or Taurus just to break up the uniformity of the planes.
