Elysian 121st Dark Star Regement +++ Phase 2 Complete +++

Greetings fellow brothers of the Imperium. I felt that it has been far to long since I have worked on my first true love that brought me to this glorious hobby. The Elysian Drop Troops in my humble opinion are by far some of the coolest looking guards men I have seen, mind you that might be because they seem to resemble the present days troops, who knows.

I know this might not be the greatest time to start a new project log, what with the ETL being on it's home stretch, but I have currently run out of Templar to paint and my order is taking forever. So instead of sitting idle, I figured it was time to get back to work on these glorious air mobile infantrymen. This has always been my long term project seeing as how every troop will be converted to the way I like. Even as cool as they are stock, they just didn't seem to fit the fluff of being dropped behind enemy lines for days and carrying everything required in order to carry out there mission effectively with the gear issued to them. So enter the changes, each troop thus far has been filed down and been issued the new jump ready plate carrier, leg rigs, upgraded optics and other things I haven't yet thought of. But enough of my bantering, here are some pictures of what has been completed so far.

1x Company command squad
1x Sniper squad
1x Heavy bolter squad
3x Taurus assault vehicles

2x Vendetta conversion kits and
a lot of helmets with respirators and jump packs.

This was my end tour gift to me.

Hope you like, comments and criticism is always appreciated.

Seems to be a lot of us Templars with AM armies. biggrin.png

It's a wonderful start, the paint job on them looks great. I especially like the highlights on the visors and the camo, makes them look rather like special forces. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for the comments.

@kierdale - this was the first time I had actually ever painted visors before. The darker areas were based in black and then white for the brighter areas. After that evil suns scarlet is the red used.

I am currently in the process of sculpting the chest rigs for another drop squad as well as the heavy bolter teams and am cleaning up the vulture. I hit a delay in hobby time as work asked me to make some display boards for them. Sadly that ate up most of my holiday time. I do hope to have more pictures up soon. Thanks for the comments

Slowly starting to get things rolling again. Managed to get the first squad filed down and the base layers of green stuff on for the vests, along with some molly rigging and some pouches for one guy.

As much as I want to get these guys done I want to get my one flyer that I have done as well, so on the side I just about have the vulture ready for assembly.

C&C more than welcome.

I've been mulling that question over for quite some time now. I'm sure whether I want my aircraft to be the same colour as my land vehicles or have them different. Right now the leading idea is a grey for the main body and a green maybe death world forest to wrap around the body for the cam pattern. The other choice is a green base coat with browns in a stripe pattern with a agrax wash to darken things up. Still not to sure at the minute though.

Im loving your army, im doing something similar with elysians to try and create a modern british army style force (with a couple of attached squads of Halo ODST style scions, this is the future after all :p ), but can never get the chest pieces right, would love to know a bit more about how you are doing yours, they look great with the extra pouches and stuff. Also do you make the packs yourself, or buy them? They look really god, but I always struggle to find decent packs

All the bags are home made with green stuff. I just added extra pouches along the sides and drilled in holes for the antennas. The plan once I get to the veterans/storm troopers is to have them really resemble the halo guys so I have helmets sculpted up for them just to differentiate them from the regular grunts. I can post up pics if you would like to see the step by step for the sculpts.

Here is my first squad/ test subjects for the green stuffing. A few of my friends asked me if I had cried while scraping off all the resin before sculpting.

I tried to make each of the back packs with different pouches for whatever configuration or weapon the troops were using, just to make it a little different.

Here is the ODST helmet for the veterans/storm troopers.

Green Stuff is something I'd love to learn some day. You've really nailed getting a more present day military look on these guys with the ammo pouches and what-not, really liking this force as a whole.

IMO, a camo scheme wouldn't be amiss on the Valkyries, etc as I've never personally envisioned them as soaring above the clouds all that often, more I can imagine one covering some Guardsmen moving through a forest, blasting on targets called out for it.
