The Forgotten XIth

Recommended Posts

I'd say that's the best thing to do as most of the legions have one main colour throughout (like the Ultramarines and Iron Hands), a few with one main colour and a secondary contrasting colour in places (like the Death Guard and Salamanders) and one or two have extra added detail (like the Night Lords).

I'd reccomend keeping it simple with regard to paint colours. You've already cracked the mould with choosing turquiose, maybe pick out some armour parts or identify certain special units with some black parts but if you're choosing an aztec theme then you'll be able to put plenty of trophies, jewelry and themed accessories on them to make them really pop.

Look forward to seeing what you've got mate and Im sure we're in for a treat :)

I recently had an idea to create a group within the Divine Reavers legion called the Rainbow Warriors. I wanted to do this to pay homage to the actual Rainbow Warriors and to prove to the galaxy they're not really ultrasmurfs. I was thinking it could be an entire chapter, composed entirely of Aztlani Astartes who retain their planets dress; taking to the field of battle in many different coloured adornments and accessories. I'm thinking lot's of feathers and jewelry ( but not in a Mr.T way sadly).

Why not, I've been toying with the idea of XI legionaires being secretly put into the Ultramarines legion and seeing as the Rainbow Warriors are Ultra successors then in time that particular group might go on to create the full M41 Rainbow Warriors chapter down the line.

A quick note about characterisation for your special units: Have you heard of a game called "Smite"? It's a game where gods from all sorts of cultures face off in combat. The reason I say is because there are some very colourful and characterful characters (some of them Aztec), which may or may not help you with some themed armour, weapons and accessories. Worth a look dude.

I think the Despoilers I have en route to me are going to be the start of the Rainbow Warriors within the legion. I'm going to have them painted up differently than the rest of the legion aswell. I'm thinking about them having black armour with little in the ways of extra bling and a single red stripe on the marines armour wherever he wants it. As a Rainbow Warriors rank increases he earns more stripes. When he obtains the full spectrum he has an eligible for captaincy or rntrance into the ranks of the Eagle or Jaguar Warriors, which will function kind of like the Deathwing and Ravenwing.

My despoiler squad came in today, expect some Rainbow Warriors soon! I apologise in advance for the poor picture quality, they be photographed with my 2mp phone :l.

Here's a bit I was working on during all my lunch breaks this week and last.

The Battle for Iridia

A chainsword was roaring, blood and gore flew in all directions. Chipiltin had just brutally murdered an enemy officer in front of his men, spreading terror and confusion amongst their ranks. The now leaderless squad struggling to put forth a cohesive assault on their assailant.

Chipiltin looked to the men who were now charging at him with their lasguns and bayonets and laughed, what fools. The men were dead in an instant, with little effort on Chipiltin's part.

Iridia was one of many worlds awaiting unification under the glorious banner of the Imperium of Man. The Divine Reavers had been sent to bring the world into compliance, whatever means necessary. Their legendary primarch, Cuauhtémoc, had sent the Rainbow Warriors to do the deed; he desired to spread shock and terror on the planet and ravage it's cities to the ground.

Chipiltin looked up, he had noticed something out of the corner of his eye. A shooting star flew past him in the sky, he knew what it really was though.

The drop pod screamed across the cityscape and slammed into a tower, passing through it and landing in the adjacent plaza. The Astartes disembarked from their pod and looked to their captain, Huitzotl, for direction. The tower they just passed through began to collapse in on itself behind the captain.

"We shall make our way towards the city center, about 3 kilometres east. Our objective is to secure the northern sector and await reenforcements."

The men nodded in understand and headed east towards their objective. About half a kilometre away they begun to see fortifications.

"Hold position! We must discern which of the men will be our target, we must remove their leader as to create confusion among their ranks."

They scanned the fortifications and saw their targe; a tall muscular man, with his chest adorned in all manners of war medals. Huitzotl then begun to decide what manner of attack would cause the most drama. The enemy general appeared to be making his way to a quickly thrown together stage, he must about to give a speech. This was perfect.

"Lay low until their general finishes his speech, as he gives the rallying final words we will strike."

And so the squad waited, the general had been a wonderful sight to see on stage. So much charisma and movement, pity he was the enemy. Huitzotl could tell the speech was on it's final lines, excitement was growing amongst the amalgamation of mortal soldiers.

"Here it is. I'll make first contact and take out the general as he finishes. After I take care of him jump into the center of the crowd and wreak havoc."

The crowd roared and cheered as the general delivered his final words. At that moment Huitzotl's jump pack roared to life, he propelled himself at the general. He landed with a loud thud behind the general. The man turned around, Huitzotl could see the fear in his eyes.

"Your blood shall be the first of many offerings to the Sun Lord and the Old Gods!" Huitzotl yelled in his native Aztlani. His chainsword impaled the man straight through his chest and made a bloody mess of it. Huitzotl could see the crowd scrambling to take up arms against him. In the next instant his men descended upon the crowd, making quick work of them and securing the zone for the Rainbow Warriors.

Moments later the reenforcements arrived and a temporary base camp had been set up. Enemy reenforcements had attacked every short while, with no success. The Rainbow Warriors took care to not kill every man, as they desired to offer them up on the sacrificial altars on Aztlan. When the legion's armour finally arrived, the force set out to assault the palace where a man claiming to be the Emperor resided.

The palace's defenses were no match for the Rainbow Warriors' armour. It's walls fell within minutes, and it's praetorians offered little in the way of resistance. As commander of the forces, Huitzotl made his way to the throne room. Open reaching it he could see the false emperor weeping in despair at the foot of his throne.

"O glorious Emperor, do not weep. We have come to deliver you to a higher existance." The irony in his words lost on the man; Huitzotl's men laughed as they knew what he really meant with the cruel joke. Huitzotl had grabbed the man and slung him over his shoulder, kicking and shouting.

"Now now, don't over exert yourself. You have yet to meet our lord."

The Rainbow Warriors made their way back to their base camp and Huitzotl had chained the man to a light post.

"Contact the primarch, the planet is secured. And our mighty emperor here is ready to meet him."

"Right away captain." replied Brother Xoptl.

About an hour later the primarchs personal Thunderhawk touched down in the base camp. As they hatch opened up his honour guard disembarked from the vessel. Huitzotl admired these warriors. They were the Sun's Wrath, men who had mastered their roles as Eagle and Jaguar warriors and were hand picked by the primarch to serve as his personal guard. They were clad in golden armour. Huitzotl even recognised one of them, Brother Macatil still bore the Rainbow Warriors signature spectrum on his left greave.

The primarch was the next to disembark. He was a tall man, larger than the already giant Astartes. He bore glorious black armour, adorned with suns and eagles made of gold; his helmet was encased in a hood made to resemble an eagle's head. From the helmet's crown flowed a beautiful crest. It was made up of feathers and animal hairs in vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. It was almost like a crown of flames.

Huitzotl dropped to his hands and knees as the primarch approached him.

"Stand, my son. There is yet blood to be spilled! Where is the man who claims false-emperorship?" Huitzotl rose to his feet, still diverting his gaze "We have him chained to a lightpost over by the armour, my lord. If you would follow me, I can take you to him." "Excellent." Cuauhtémoc smiled "Take me to him."

Huitzotl escorted the primarch to the man. He was a frail and pitiful creature. The Rainbow Warriors had given him a crown by putting nails in his skulls and binding it with barbed wire.

"So, this is the glorious 'Emperor'?" scoffed Cuauhtémoc "You look more like a mongrel mutt, I must say."

The primarch kneed the man in the jaw.

"I will make you suffer for taking my father's name in vain. I will tear the lids from your eyes and force you to watch as I burn your precious empire." Cuauhtémoc picked the man up by the throat "After I burn your world, you will see every last man, woman, and child offered up to my father and the Old Gods on my altar. It will be a glorious spilling of blood!" He threw the man to the ground and placed his armoured foot on the man's chest. Cuauhtémoc bent over and ripped off the man's eyelids. "Now, let us not delay: we have a parade to attend." He then grabbed the man by his legs and dragged him screaming to the nearest Rhino.

My, quite a bit of dust has collected here. I took a bit of a break from this project to focus on other projects and ideas as well as grinding out some looong hours to earn my forthcoming promotion. I also didn't have much inspiration or anything I felt would be worth adding to this thread.

But I've been knocking around a few ideas in my head and decided to get crackin' on how the XI fits into the fold of the Legiones Astartes. I'll be setting about figuring out who is best buds with Cuauhtémoc and who hates him, along with some editing. I also want to take this in a bit of a different direction.

I want to add Arab (or be more general and go Middle Eastern) flavor to the chapter. I'll be changing the homeworld and altering a few things here and there to follow suit. So in essence, the legion will have Middle Eastern influences on much of their aspects with Aztec beliefs thrown into the mix. I'm really excited about the idea, even moreso then when I first started this project, and I can't wait to get something solid to share with you all.

So on the agenda for change:

Homeworld

Meeting the Emprah

Identity of the Rainbow Warriors

Colours

Primarch name and appearance

Legion culture and traditions

Legion name (tentative change)

and much more!

Things I plan to add soon:

Relationship with other legions

Legion specific wargear

Legion specific units

and for this last bit I'd like some help from those of you familiar with the Legion rules, I'm not sure how to go about creating some rules for the XI legion to help them fit in on the tabletop.

I got a lot on my plate at the moment for this project, and I'm simply overjoyed with my newfound inspiration. So, I'll get crackin' and I'll have more to add within the next couple of days.

Okay, this is the final time I will change my mind on the sources from which I will draw inspiration for my legion, I promise.

I've decided to stick with cultures and groups I'm familiar with rather than pick those I know very little about. That being said, sources I intend to draw from will be 'Merica (but like a 99 percent water version of the Eagles of Glory), and this: http://m.youtube.com/?reload=2&rdm=163lvt59n#/watch?v=2Crq31hm0m8

I had absolutely no inspiration or desire for my previous idea after the initial couple of days, nor the time for it. But now as my schedule opens up a bit I'll have time to put work into this project. So, enough with the talking, I'm going to start writing some fluff up!
