My Astirial Guatarum

T0MMY

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I've been lurking a bit, but I haven't posted any pics of my Astra Militarum yet, soo...

Tiny history - most recent (6th edition) army were heresy era world eaters, but then the COOL AM models came out and I thought I'd get a small allied force for my marines. Now it looks more like the WE will be the allies! Because I wanted them to fit with the early-post heresy era I've tried to get rid of Aquilas where I can.

I love tanks. The camouflage pattern is based on the urban "Berlin" pattern used on Chieftains (Google it). Its basically squares to break up the lines.

I know there's a few mould lines on these bad boys, but I get bored of removing them, so just try to see them as hastily repaired battle damage, ok? msn-wink.gif l'm not done with weathering yet, but the min painting is pretty much done. Doing some troops too, but here's the start: tanks!

So this is a Pask. The brilliant way they've made the model means I can run him as punisher, vanquisher or demolisher...

...and I've painted all the sponson loadouts too, so I can run various combos yay!

His buddy is going to be an exterminator (or maybe a vanquisher if I run a Pask-Punisher). I'm going to swap the turret of this bad boy, and put it on a non-sponson base as a vanquisher.

So that's pretty much it so far, I hope to update with sentinels and troops shortly.

The cadian defence force is on it's way smile.png

Sounding good, and the camo looks nice too.

I too started out as a small allie force but it has now developed into being as big as my original marine force.

Keep it up and update us.

The march of the Guard is relentless, one day all will have an IG army ;) Welcome aboard, good to see another treadhead too :tu: Your tanks look good, a refreshing camouflage scheme to see and it works well (stealing inspiration from real life always goes well), I'm eager to see more! What's your trooper colour scheme going to look like?

Thanks for the nice comments guys - glad you like the camo scheme.

Here's a couple of sentinels that I've mostly finished (still need weathering maybe sometime...)

Hope you like.

As for guardsmen - I'm not 100% sure on colour scheme yet. I've got some veterans which I've started painting based on the militarum tempestus models (I've just cut the shoulder light off). The colours are very similar to those used by GW (although not the quality of painting) as they match the tank colours pretty well. I'll post pics of where I am shortly.

I need some advice on the basic guard though. I was planning just a basic urban grey ("the fang") as a base - which is the same as the tanks. Not sure if I should try a camo scheme though or leave them fairly plain. Any thoughts / people I can copy?!

I'm waiting for the Cadian defence force to arrive (should be today) so I can start putting them together, although there's every possibility that I'll do the LR (Exterminator) and Chimera first anyway!!

Thanks for looking.

A camouflage scheme isn't necessary, you can paint their fatigues a colour and give it a wash and that's enough. A lot quicker to do too :P Usually the armour is done a complementary colour (such as a darker grey) as it's an easy distinction to make and gives the models a bit more variety.

Nice work. I am waiting for my armour and then I can do like you have done with the multiple weapons options. I am planning on having the sponsons removable too.

I can't tell on my phone display but your pask looks like the standard tank commander. How are you going to identify him or is he going to be the only one sticking out of the hatch?

Haha, oh yes, the sun always shines on the Guard! biggrin.png

Thanks (again) for the encouragement - glad you like the scheme!

@Elmo, yes that's the 'standard' tank commander from the box, although there's a few options for torsos and heads, etc. I'm only giving him a peaky hat, so that will mark him out as Pask when he needs to be Pask! I may make the other TCs (if I run others) shorter in the hatch too, with less impressive head gear! msn-wink.gif

I'll post more when I have it.

Cheers
