Gritty paint with citadel primers

Recommended Posts

So I've used Citadel primers before in the past without this problem but the latest model I just sprayed the other night has layered the model with a gritty texture along with the black paint. Was this because of environmental conditions or because of distance? Anyone have some experience with this?

Typically, it's both environmental conditions and distance, the grit is caused by the paint partially drying in the air before it gets to the model (that's how it was explained to me at least). So try to avoid spraying in direct sunlight and over and the peak of the day. Morning and afternoon shade was what was recommended to me here in sunny Brisbane.

Cheers,

Jono

I've always preferred spraying closer then recommended, but moving much faster to compensate. Something I've picked up from having to prime in less than optimal conditions. (Winter sucks) It usually helps the spray get in to some of the tighter spots as well, but you need to take care to keep your layers very light.
