Hello,

I am taking my first, tentative steps into choosing a legion to model all the wonderful resin I have purchased, but is sitting languidly in various places on my desk and bookshelf. The Smurfs have never been my favorite chapter, but their portrayel in the BL series has really captured my attention more so than any other legion (though I'll probably concurrently add a BA force as well. Call me crazy, but I liked Fear to Tread...). To that end, I have purchased this model I found on eBay (it has yet to arrive). Firstly, what do y'all think (sorry if it's way oversized)? Please note: he looks more Calgar than Roboute, but it is true scale, and, with some converting, I think it might serve.

Secondly, what should I do to make him more ...primarch-y? I realize I'll have to scrape off the Crux Terminatus on his left shoulder, and I was thinking of adding the Horus head but with added GS for hair, maybe scraping off the skul on his chest, but what else? This is the Battle King of Macragge! The Primarch of the XIII'th! The future Lord Commander of the Imperium! As much as I like the model as it stands, it lacks the bling a primarch needs. At least, this primarch. This will be, of course, a simple stop-gap until such time as the XIIIth gets their due, but I want him to be commanding in a, at least as closely as possible, similar fashion to the currently released FW Primarchs.

Any suggestions?

I would add some more purity seals, maybe a leather waist tabbard, and a gladius at his hip, and maybe some more detail to the top of the Terminator hunchback like wings or another ultramarine symbol

Some fodder for inspiration:

Going by those, I would say the fists need some belt buckles, those leather strips attached to the waist, and lots of gold artwork, especially the chest, legs and trim.

Thanks, guys! Yeah, I've been looking at those two covers a lot lately. Also, been flipping through Visions and the various wiki to get inspiration. I wish this wasn't modeled as a terminator. All the artwork makes it look like he's wearing Artificer Armor. I was thinking about GS'ing the leg structural braces to make it a flat plain. I think I'll have more area for bling that way. I also thought about removing the Aquila on his chest and the crests on his shin armor. That way I can try to get a more cohesive look to the decorations. The peturges will definitely be added (the leather straps) as well as an iron halo. I ordered some metal haloes from someone in the UK who casts them himself, and they are appropriately primarch sized. Thanks for the input!

Looks mighty fine as is.

One bit of constructive criticism: is the model big enough to be a Primarch?

If you need him to stand taller (as in taller than even his own Terminator bodyguards), the easiest fix would be a taller base. A little green stuff to lengthen the legs would also do wonders.

See, the listing stated it was true scale for a terminator, and that it could be used as a proxy for either Calgar or Papa Smurf. I know true scale terminators tower over regular marines, but I don't know where they stand in regard to Primarchs. I have Horus and Ferrus here, so when he arrives I'll take a comparison shot for the BnC. If y'all want...

Yep! If you don't want the terminator style, you could dremel it off and with a little greenstuff work you could very nicely convert it by adding a backpack and whatnot

The issue with dremeling the terminator hump off is that the arms are connected to the torso. I can make it work, but it might be more effort than it's worth. Still, though, I think it's a great model. There are just a lot of unknown variables. Thanks!

No problem on the backpack. Our Spiritual Liege is mentioned to own many different weapons and different sets of armor. Who is to say that he does not have a suit of prototype Terminator armor lying around somewhere?
