[HH1.0] Iron Warriors Tactics

Why run pride when you can just take Golg! Or chosen duty with a delegatus.

Funny enough, I often don't use a ROW with my IWs. This is entirely opposite my experience with Iron Hands, where I would always use HotG.

Same here.

I just don't need one. Don't know why but it is what it is.

The Ironfire is one of the best RoW in the game though. But I want to keep my friends. ;)

So with Tyrant Siege terminators being released soon, my love for the Iron IVth has rekindled of late. Unfortunately I had to sell most of my previous collection, but now that gives me a chance to start fresh.

The plan is go traitor (as a counter to my legion Wolves project).

What do you think of this as a guideline for (re-)starting out?

Ironfire (3000 points)

Siege-breaker (terminator armour, goes with one unit of tyrants)

Master of Signals (goes with quad mortars)

Master of Signals (goes with quad mortars)

(2x) 20 dude tac squads with nuncio vox's and power weapon sergeant.

(3x) frag/shatter/phosphex quad mortars

(3x) frag/shatter/phosphex quad mortars

(2x) legion dreadnought (shrapnel rounds heavy bolter, dreadnought drop pod)

(2x) tyrant siege terminator squads (stock)

medusa

Perturabo (goes with a tyrant squad)

This I call a friendship killer.

Brutal list.

Hm, I only have prior experience with Hammer of Olympia, so I don't really have a feel for Iron-fire's power level.

How would you tame it? I could strip the phosphex and the MoS's and take some fliers instead?

I would remove one of the 3-man phosphex mortar units just to be polite, as one 3-man is more than enough to shred an infantry heavy army on their own. This list will struggle to kill a Spartan though and has no counter for a deathstar, so I don't think it's too bad. Those Masters of Signal feel like wasted points to me, I'd drop both and reinvest in something more useful.

You can't take allies in The Ironfire.

  • 4 weeks later...

How has everyone been getting on against Custodes? It's been awhile since it was last discussed in this thread, so hopefully people will have gotten some games in.

I haven't fought them yet, but I have a 10 strong Plasma gun support unit on the painting table and a very large Heavy Volkite squad which I'm hoping could do some damage with 40 str6 shots.

Only SM cannot be taken if I'm not mistaken.

That is correct, only Legion allied detachments are forbidden.

Oh.

That's nice.

So you could take some Imperial Militia Racoons as foreward deployed dudes.

Haven't played a lot against Custodes myself I can say that Plasma works well same with Volkite.

The latter is like using lots of Bolter shots against Terminators.

Tyrants don't work at all, sadly. But Havocs with Lascannons on the other hand work just fine.

I wrote FW about the Tyrants and got a strange answere:

Hi im,

Thanks for the email, the tyrant siege guard are the unit choice option meaning the force org slot that is listed on the actual unit page, heavy support.

Thanks again

Is this even english? ;)

By the way, my name is not "im". :D

I like the idea of Lascannon Havocs but can't justify the points cost. I'm going to have to challenge the local Custode player, he has a few transports, light skimmers and dreads, so plenty for my big guns to shoot at.

Iron Circle vs Custodes? yay or nay?

I know bananas have scary, shooty toys but...

If you can keep them away from their unkillable 3++ rerolling Tribune, powerfists and Lascannon Jetbikes I believe they should be tricky to take down

But adrathic stuff wounds ICircle on 5+ best (this heavy variant). As for heliosomething "T test, die when failed" I think that forge lord with cyber familiar could act as a front tanker. T7 with characteristic rerolls should keep 'em save. Although biomancy librarian would be mayby better.

I'm thinking bout ICircle because:

1) Their hammers ID custodes

2) charge vs ICircle is disorderd thanks to carcerii shields

3) 4++ invul

4) high T

5) striking before solarites

I think iron circle would do fairly well against custodes for all the reasons you mentioned, however that doesn't change the problem that they are still fairly expensive and can't be put into any transport so they are stuck with footslogging. Worth trying though I suppose.

So there are few issues here.

The first being understanding how the jetbikes cost and work. So the first thing to notice is that the min 3 Las-pulsar jetbikes are only a few points less than 4 adrathic jetbikes. The las-pulsars average about 5 lascannon shots. Which as you nicely put aren't likely to kill a whole 4 wound model. The adrathic do 8 shots, and 2, 5+ wound rolls to remove a whole model. They are significantly more efficient at killing than the las-pulsar variant which is more vulnerable to the vagaries of dice.

But outside of that they like most MC are pretty good against custodies.

Painting pertabo up as I want to paint some Iron as a counterbalance to all or the yellow and red I've been doing:)

My idea so far is thus-iron circus playing to the idea of Perty and friends DSing while tac 1 moves forward with the vindicators(I love the idea of lots of arty and mobile pie plates seem to fit the narrative nicely), tac 2 walks/runs and is an objective sitter/ backfield lover, the thudd guns are there because my VIIth boys have become fully mobile and stationary arty doesn't fit their idea anymore;), javelins fly around and work on some rear armor shots while Perty and the termis do their biz up close and personal- the volkites are there because 30k- PM is attached here to keep the horde alive while Perty and the IC boys wreak havoc with the siege breaker being nasty

Also running this as list idea as all I need is 1 more vindicator, 2 IC and the javelins... and a IW head/torso set

Pertabo

2 iron circle

Cataphractii primarius medicae

Cataphractii siege breaker with thunder hammer and nasty nades

8x Cataphractii termis with volkites

3x thudd guns (phosphex cause I'm nasty)

Apothecary-aa/aug (with footslogging tac)

10x tac- aa, mb, combimelta, PF, extra cc, vex-rhino-MM/dozer

15x tac- aa, mb, extra cc, vex, vox

2x javelin lascannon (AT)

2x vindicators (Light AT/TEQ)

Iron Warriors don't need Vexilas unless you want a unit for cc. ;)

How many points should that list be?
