[HH1.0] Tactica Chainaxe: World Eaters

Ya destroyers are fairly subpar. It's a fairly expensive unit if all you want is 2 small ap3 blasts, and rad phange rarely comes in handy since you usually target one wound model. Phosphex bombs are nice, but against it's an expensive unit to be escorting just one model carrying a good weapon, while everyone else just has bolt pistols. Plus given how short range phosphex bombs are, you need to get well into enemy assault range, yet even with counter attack destroyers are pretty bad in assault, they are just tacticals with ccws basically.

Sooooo....

Ive decided world eaters are going to be my next army. With the next box due out soon for that mini armour goodness.

Unlike my alpha legion who I built as a jack of all trades, I do want to specialise with the world eaters, and I've been considering the jump pack rites of war...

Either looks fairly viable to me, I think both synergise well with eaters, long charge ranges, hit and run for double-buff (though thinking about it what would last three turns of combat anyway?)

And assault squads are really Really good troops for the worldies now. So far as I can tell...

Budget is somewhat of a concern (doing a masters this year) but I'm no stranger to sculpting and conversions.

How would people go about making a jump pack core, into a well rounded list at 3k points?

Edit:

Here is one of my first drafts;

Thing is, the world eater's berzerker assault RoW is so freakin powerful that you want to run it 100% of the time if you are using WE.   Run that same list using BA and you won't regret it.

side bar - you guys that have tacked on chainaxes to the bolter marines from B@C, how did you model that?  Just stick them on their legs or backpacks like they are maglocked?

Do they really suck like you say?

And additional would you play Cataphractii as Devourers or should i leave this idea too?

Let me point that out like this:

In my last game against Alpha Legion my opponent had a unit of ten Destroyers with Jump Packs in his army. 340 points. They where crushed in one Assault Phase by my Inductii + my chaplain. 240 points.

One.

Assault Phase.

My plan is to use anvil industries chain axes, and remodel the arms.

A couple of well placed incisions with a hobby knife and you end up with a completely different angle.

I was thinking the same thing, just haven't tried before. If you do it, would you mind tossing up a tutorial?

Its mostly because the Crimson Path only comes into effect in your opponents Deployment Zone. Not the largest of spaces for a whole game to occur.

And, due to that, it means that you're not really making the most out of the benefits you get from running the RoW.

Between, Bikes, Dreadclaws, and assault marines and few real limitations I've seen some solid results and fearsome lists.

But if youre up against an army that can quickly move out of their deployment zone, you having to go to them (you want to be in CC) means that you'd have to leave the deployment zone or get shot at.

And if youre unlucky, the deployment zones are pretty small. If you are lucky, then theyre huge and its not much of an issue.

I used the B@C marines but have so many spare chainsword, grenade etc. wielding arms that I just snip the weapon and hand off and replaced with a FW chainaxe. My despoilers now all hold pistols, combat knives, or knuckle dusters in addition to their axe.

I did originally think about just sticking an axe to the backpack or leg but it looked weird and didn't seem right. Much better to be actually holding them.

I agree, my only worry is that my inexperience in altering arms could damage an otherwise good model. Especially with the way the bolter arms are.
