The Helion Legion - Empurata's WIP - ETL V vows completed!

Recommended Posts

Hello Fellow Hobbyists,

Today I will be starting a new forum post to document my latest project. A space marine chapter called "The Helion Legion". This is a project I have always wanted to do for the last 3 years when I decided that I would do one more space marine army after working on Blood Angels, Black Templars, Chaos Space Marines (Night Lords and Crimson Slaughter) and more recently Dark Angels.

The Helion Legion is DIY chapter created by games workshop staff member Steve Cuminskey. This chapter was featured in an extensive article about his chapter's history and how he used the then newly released space marine kit to update his collection. This article from the very first White Dwarf magazine I owned. (issue 297, released on September 2004) I have enjoyed that article for the last decade and now I want to create at least one entire company of this chapter and expand its fluff with my own little additions as homage and to mark a 10 year milestone of clipping, painting and playing Warhammer 40,000.

I have already begun this project with the creation of a Liber Astartes page for those interested and a few models I am currently working on modelling and painting to get this project fully under way.

For this army I intend to follow all the original fluff provided for this army. This will include:

- Keeping all original iconography and colour schemes the same

- Sticking to only Ultramarine characters and aesthetic (i.e. Roman)

- Building my company around a specific organisation chart that can only consist of the following:

HQ:

0-1 Captain, 0-1 Librarian, 0-1 Chaplain and a single command squad

ELITE:

0-1 Terminator squad, 0-1 Dreadnought, 0-2 Veteran Squads

TROOPS:

0-3 Tactical Squads, 1+ Scout Squads

FAST ATTACK:

0-2 Assault squads (one squad must be without jump packs), 0-2 Scout Bike Squads, 0-3 Land Speeders, 0-1 Land Speeder Tornado or Typhoon

HEAVY SUPPORT:

0-1 Devastator squad, 0-2 Predators, 0-1 Land Raider, 0-1 Whirlwind

Now with all the boring bits done, i present to you THE HELION LEGION

med_gallery_80929_9904_204070.png

To start off my blog , My Captain of the Helion Legion "Liege Centuro Crastinus." This model was the first model I have ever converted and painted for my new project. Conversion was easy enough with swapping the arms of the captain with that of the sternguard kit. The only difficult part was to remove the combi-grav from the front torso piece without damaging said torso. Luckily, a few small cuts with my hobby pliers and some light pressure to snap the piece off left only little filing to be done to remove the unwanted weapon and use a sheathed power sword instead from the sternguard kit.

Tabletop rules wise he to be either my Captain with a Plasma Pistol, Power Sword and Artificer Armour or to be a proxy for Captain Sicarius should I ever want to use his rules in a game.

med_gallery_80929_9904_154306.pngmed_gallery_80929_9904_315571.png

Next the the first 2 models of my 10 man veteran squad. A Veteran Sergeant and Heavy Flamer. Neither of these are conversions sadly, they are just built straight out the box. Colour scheme wise I am trying to keep the same basic uniform my chapter has however I have painted some armour panels exactly as if I was to paint Ultramarines.

The reasoning behind this is according to a very old, GW web article by Steve Cuminskey (Archive Link: http://web.archive.org/web/20051102131052/http://oz.games-workshop.com/games/40k/spacemarines/painting/helion-terminators/default.htm ) , Terminators of the chapter will have at least one armour panel left unpainted to show the original colours as a way to say that the armour is a rare and ancient relic from days long before this chapter's founding. The Helion Legion being a Ultramarines Successor the colour is naturally blue. Upon re-reading this old article I had the idea that I would also pass this trait on to Veteran Power Armour as a way to honour their genetic forefathers and for me to paint a more visually dynamic squad.

That's all for now. I Appreciate any comments and I hope you enjoy reading my future updates as I will making them.

"Praise the sun. For it is the Emperor's Light"

UPDATE!: Just to let potential followers know, I am not working with a deadline to publish new content on this forum as I do have to balance Work, Family and hobby times accordingly. New content will come along as I go on about this project. For now Please enjoy what I have to offer.

With that out the way, MORE VETERANS! Adding these 3 bolter marines brings up my squad up to 5 veterans total out of the 10 man squad I intend to make (20 veterans for the Company). At this time painting is not yet complete with the scopes, scrolls and other details still in need of work but the over all scheme and building is done. When it came to modelling I have made the bolter's removable in case I wish to use either special weapons or combi-bolter's in future games and to better show that detail when I take photo's of them.

Also one might see in the photo's below they finally have bases (yay!). At the moment my veterans are blue-tacked onto the bases as I will be modelling and painting them separately from the models themselves.

Anyway onto the pictures for larger views, see my slowly growing Gallery on the B&C forum.

Please enjoy and comment.

Today I bring you my completed Captain and the first half of my Sternguard veteran squad. Just completed the bases today and added some battle damage to the armour and i drilled out the bolters and other weapons. Overall I'm very proud on how they managed to turn out. There might be some further touch ups down the road as i do tend to miss some very tiny details that was left unpainted

med_gallery_80929_9904_196811.png

med_gallery_80929_9904_1242221.png

On the mention of bases I have taken a quick photo of what the sternguard bases look like before I pinned and glued the models onto them. They are the new Imperialis Basing kit released by Games workshop a couple of Months back. Painting wise I did most of the paint the same way GW paint their game board but I replaced the bronze with brass to make it really pop out from the stonework. One thing I might add onto them in future will be to add some more corrosion and verdigris onto the metals.

med_gallery_80929_9904_784641.png

Finally onto the last subject on today's post. My WIP Dreadnought. This is just a standard Assault on Black Reach dreadnought I had laying about in my other collection that I decided to give to my Helion Legion. He still needs a fresh coat of paint and I am redoing his base from the standard sand and grass style to be more like my current basing.

Today I have completed painting the dreadnought I have started last week, Giving him much more colour and some fine battle weathering to give him that ancient well worn look. One thing I wish I could have added to this dreadnought is the option to use a assault cannon rather than a Multi-Melta but unfortunately I have none to spare and this is the AoBR dreadnought so unless I do some work on the pegs where the arm's socket together it will have to stay with the MM.

To further add to this weeks update. 3 new models. the first and second are my 2 next WIP's of the company's first Land Speeder and my Sniper Scouts

During Sunday evening I have now begun the planning and constructing of my 10 man tactical squad and their bases.

med_gallery_80929_9904_1048027.png

As of typing this post I have now built and painted the Sergeant. A Beakie Marine and the Missile Launcher Marine. Pretty much I have built them straight out the box with little to no conversions on them.

What I want overall from this squad is a "what you see is what you get" unit to use for both fluff and table top. To do in this I have modelled each marine so far with grenades, ammo pouches and other items along with modelling the sergeant and eventually one marine to have swappable bolters/combi-weapons. This is so I never have to worry about doing the one pet peeve I have with Warhammer 40k. Using models with incorrect weapons to proxy as another weapon (e.g. Space Marine with Flamer proxying as a Marine with Gravity Gun). Its just annoying to me, Especially when your in a Team Game or Apocalypse and you lose tabs on which squad had what weapon and/or the face palm you plant when your enemies flamer marine just immobilised your Dreadnought with a well placed "Meltagun Shot". While I know the big rule books says that models must modelled with the correct weapon type to use it's statistics. I still find the odd game with this happening.

To finish this post off, I want you let you know my thoughts on the new tactical squad kit as this my first time using this kit on any project. Its a improvement over a already great kit. With it's new bits to create more marines that vary a lot more in appearance than their predecessor. It just gives each marine I build character and with so many options combined with the left over bits from the sternguard kit, I can easily create a very elite looking army if I so wish. If I have to have one complaint, it would be one some of the arms used for the accessories like the reloading arms and the ones that hold the swords/knives. I don't know about you guys but I feel like the arms are out of proportion on my space marines when I dry fit them together. Maybe it will look all right once I put the shoulder pads on but with out them they look just off.

That's all from me for now. Enjoy the rest of the week folks.

After nearly a month of on and off hobby. My first tactical squad and my sniper scout squad (with Sgt. Telion) has now been painted and based to table top standard. First up my tactical marines,

med_gallery_80929_9904_1024142.png

med_gallery_80929_9904_495666.png

All the models are built straight out the box with a with only 2 cosmetic changes

1.) The squad sergeant sports a head crest to signify his status along with the back banner. A theme i hope to apply to all my Sergeants in the future, Failing that they will go on with out one.

2.) The Sergeant and the Weapons Specialist have swappable weapons so I may swap the team load out to any liking given the army list I want to build. Refer to me last post explaining why.

Now on to my scouts,

med_gallery_80929_9904_1040703.png

These scouts were once Blood Angels until I decided my space vampires should be more of a jump pack army instead of a mixed lot with everything. After some careful removal off bases onto new ones and a fairly easy Telion conversion I now created my rearguard of Snipers.

While I did want Telion in my initial army list, I was not intending to use him/buy him yet until I made a basic squad then just add him on as a sixth member. But then creative impulses struck and I hacked up and reassembled the Sergeant's Sniper Rifle with a spare Bolter and a head swap with a spare Sternguard head that is a dead ringer for Telion. After all that was done and a bit of paint HEY PRESTO! Sgt. Telion has joined my ranks.

NEXT TIME: Vanguard Veterans/Predator/More of the same stuff but just with added chapter markings.

Hello Ladies, Gentlemen and Xenos,

It's been a while hasn't it? Sorry it's been a long time since my last post, I had been sadly caught up with a lot of other projects and idead that my mind keeps telling me to do now because I can be impulsive like that.

At any rate it time for a BIG update!!

I apologise in advance for the smaller that normal images, I'm trying to use a new method of cropping and resizing my photos and I have not yet got the sizes right. that and I have a lot to showcase today.

gallery_80929_9904_130693.png

First up, My Leige Centuro (Captain/Sicarius), Unhappy I was leaving his cape and banner so bare I decided to give my captain some more character by adding a Greek key pattern to the cape and to finally add the chapter symbol via custom waterside transfers onto the banner. Let me tell you painting that cape design as precise and possible is a real pain the the wrist.

gallery_80929_9904_113670.pngmed_gallery_80929_9904_351551.png

Currently Sitting on my work desk now is the new Predator Annihilator I recently purchased to finally complete my 1000 point list of Helion Legion. As you can see there is little to behold at this moment in terms of squad markings and colour. Eventually I will get to painting that and completing this centrepiece to my army. So far only the base colours have been done as well as my Techmarine spotter who has been painted to above standard and is used to represent the storm bolter it comes with as wargear or as a Sgt.Chronus stand in as I am trying to avoid using special character models from the Ultramarines to help personalise my army.

gallery_80929_9904_179338.pngDRIVE ME CLOSER! I WANT TO BLAM! THEM TWICE WITH MY GUN!

Next up, I had finally added some transfers to my space marines to finally make them offically Helion Legion, which in hindishight I should have taken a picture of rather than a group shot of my tactical marines to show case. I have yet to do the tactical markings which I may just hand paint as trying to make them as transfers was a real annoyance to create.

med_gallery_80929_9904_48714.png

As as of today this is Helion legion company so far as a playable Battleforce:

gallery_80929_9904_234514.png

In closing of today's update, I have something completely different. You know how I said earlier I was working on other projects? Well gaze into the face of fear and BEHOLD!

med_gallery_80929_10270_684006.png

That's right folks, Night Lords are coming your way.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday's to all and to all a good life.

Lets see the up close on the Decal . Did you print your own?

I'll do so and yes I did print my own transfers, the symbol is what you see in my profile picture and I have yet to do one for the Sergeants and vehicles as the black cross was suppose to be white and white does not print at all on clear transfer paper, Tried printing them in grey but the colour just washed out after soaking.

UPDATE: Ask and ye shall receive. All transfers are custom made and printed on clear decal paper and applied using Micro Sol, Micro Set and Matt Varnish. I tried to keep each transfer as centre as possible and I think I did do a good job, Just the perfectionist in me keeps saying no adjust it/ do it over.

Praise the Sun for I have returned once more to deliver you some more WIP.

http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--5XI-bzjW--/zwgvcj51x2ah4omutcov.jpg

Over the last couple of months I have been mostly flip/flopping over from one army project to another. Blood Angels/Chaos Marines/Vostroyans/Helion Legion in random fashion. Today however I have finally managed to make some progress with the Helion Legion. by working more into my HQ and Elite sections of my force organisation chart.

First off Terminators.

med_gallery_80929_9904_764833.png
At this time I have just finished basing and base-coating the first half of my one terminator squad, Eventually I will get to paint in the finer details and battle damage and work on the next half of the squad which will have the squads special weapons I'm thinking Assault Cannon, Cyclone Missile Launcher and a Chainfist since I never fielded such a unit before (critique/opinions welcome.) As far as conversions go, this is just the standard AoBR squad with a new leather tabard and iron halo on my sergeant.

Next up my company command squad

med_gallery_80929_9904_970343.png

One of the many and most useful of resources I have to my project would be a traditional game store located in my city. Not only do they sell D&D/RPG books, Miniatures from other games (Infinity, Warmachine, DUST warfare, etc) and boardgames but they also sell second hand warhammer models from both Fantasy and 40k. This squad here is the fruit of my labour from visiting them regularly to see if I could find some OOP model or just a single model to fill in the gap. So here is a quick rundown of my squad...

sml_gallery_80929_9904_493259.png

First up the squads Apothecary. This one came from my city's GW way back in 2004 when they use to sell pewter blister packs before finecast ruined it for me. This model has some history serving for the most part as a blood angel's sanguinary priest, then he served as a Black Templar apothecary before I decided a command squad was not needed in that force. Now that his paint has been stripped and rebuilt with a new knife he now stands proud amongst my legionnaires as the one medic in an entire army.

sml_gallery_80929_9904_1181344.png

The company champion. The only thing to come from my local hobby store is the Bretonian shield I use as a combat shield. The rest of this guy is a Frankenstein of parts pilfered from my bits box. ranging from an old SM sergeant, the new plastic captains sword arm (with a shortened blade to make it more like a gladius) and the a bretonian man at arms' +Dwarf quarreller shield.

sml_gallery_80929_9904_639300.png

The First Veteran of my squad, A OOP space marine sergeant\veteran from the old command squad box. The moment I saw this model, it was bought. So worth $6 (AUD) invested into it.

sml_gallery_80929_9904_736704.png

The Second Veteran, What started out as a $3 (AUD) regular marine has now become a sternguard veteran which may either be part of my command squad or to join my current sternguard squad replacing a heavy flamer.

sml_gallery_80929_9904_756390.png

Finally, My company standard bearer. Again for $3 at my hobby shop, this one was practically built out of the command squad kit (albiet poorly) when I bought it. The only adjustments I made were to readjust the banner arm, replace the head with that of a sternguard veteran, add some accessories and to replace the outstretched bolt pistol arm with the Plastic marine captains combi-grav which I had kept from my Company Captain/Sicarius conversion.

Well, this is all I have for today so in closing I would like to leave you all with a quick snapshot of one of the next WIP projects I'll be working on along side painting my new squads. Until next time fellow hobbyists.

Hello again fellow hobbyists. For today's post I will be changing things up a bit as I've been taking a little break from my beloved Helion Legion to work on and upload other armies I have been working on over the last couple of months.

Today's army spotlight is on: Codex: Angels of Death

With the recent BA 'Dex was released I decided I would strip down and rebuild my Blood Angels army, Which was the first space marine army I ever collected and painted. It was painful for me to destroy what I had works so hard to build as I feared all the fears when it came to stripping down paint off plastic models. Thankfully this was not the case and I have begun anew by first building the first half of a new tactical squad.

gallery_80929_10659_53580.jpg

med_gallery_80929_10659_96887.jpgmed_gallery_80929_10659_118883.jpg

When I first found out that Blood Angels were going to have tactical squads with heavy flamers I pretty much decided that when I was going to rebuild my Blood Angels force anew I would remake my one and only tactical squad to have all flamer based weapons. So that means 1 Heavy Flamer, 1 Flamer and 1 Hand Flamer. :furious:BURN TYRANIDS BURN!:furious:

This squad took me a week to paint due to the limited downtime I have but in the end I am so happy that I finally painted blood angels the way I wanted them to be that I consider that time well spent.

NEXT: We have the Dark Angels. The Dark Angels were a army I was not expecting to collect as I originally bought the Dark Vengeance box set for the Chaos Space Marines only and was at the time willing to trade them away for the chaos sprue with someone else who didn't want them. Funny enough everyone else at the GW store at that day had the exact same idea (mainly for the cultists.) and so no one traded and was content with leaving GW with 2 armies instead of one mega-army.

Nowadays I am quite happy that I didn't trade/sell away these little green army men as they have quite grown on me. From my city based games store (see last post) I had bought an extra five tactical marines and three more Ravenwing bikers to make a sizeable squad The end goal with this is I would make a 1000 point army using the DV kit as a base and then stop. Once 1000p worth of models were built and painted I would expand this army no longer even if the list isn't competitive it was to be a fun/fluffy army that would spam plasma fire at the enemy's face.

Right history time is over, First off the WIP image of what I have been working on as of this morning.

med_gallery_80929_10659_12177.jpg

As of this forum's posting the "Greenwing" combat squad has already been completed and I still I have the Ravenwing to do and sadly these are my least favourite things to paint out of the whole Dark Vengeance set. I don't know why exactly its just when I attempt to paint them I get easily put off by them but because its Dark Angels I needs to have a mix of Green/Death/Ravenwing in their army.

med_gallery_80929_10659_29404.jpg

Above is the nearly completed combat squad. They still need basing to do and they do need a transfer or 2 on each marine to be fully complete but overall they are 3-colours up and tabletop ready.

As for anything else DA/BA related I have uploaded a couple of other images into my gallery under the "Angels of Death" album for your viewing pleasure. As for posting about the rest of these armies I will not be posting any more of these in this thread as I originally wanted it to be for the Helion Legion WIP only. So in future I will be posting completed DA/BA miniatures to the + HALL OF HONOUR + thread.

My next post should be about my complete Command squad and starting work on the Vanguard Veterans , Until next time Ladies, Gentlemen and Xenos.

Hello again fellow hobbyists.

It's been a while but I have finally got some significant progress done with the Helion Legion that I can finally post content up onto B&C.

Starting off with my current PIP the Company Command Squad,

med_gallery_80929_9904_2484.jpg

As you can see most of the progress has come along nicely having base coloured 4/5 models in the whole set. At this time I am unsure about what I want to do with my company champion. With the release of the Ultramarine upgrade kit from GW I really want to give my Champion the crested duellists helm from that set and the gladius style power sword to hammer in more of that Ancient Roman/Greek theme I am trying to maintain in my chapter's leadership. Thoughts?

And just because I'm a generous man here are the close ups of the models I have painted Or in my banner bearer's case a better look at the banner I'm painting which I'm not sure if I want to keep it like this to keep it simple or to add something more to it like literally every chapter banner design I see in WH40K.

med_gallery_80929_9904_100198.jpgmed_gallery_80929_9904_151344.jpg

gallery_80929_9904_62871.jpgmed_gallery_80929_9904_62763.jpg

To wrap this small post up I've also started and nearly completed the construction of my Vanguard Veteran Squad.

med_gallery_80929_9904_76737.jpg

Sorry it's not the best picture I have but once I get to painting this squad I'll post some better ones then. I have still to make one more veteran who's going to just have a BP & CCW but as one can see my final loadout is as follows:

- 10 man Vanguard Veteran Squad

- 2 Veterans with Chainswords and Storm Shields

- 2 Veterans with Twin-Lightning Claws

- Veteran Sergeant with Thunder hammer and Storm Shield.

A boring copy/paste loadout I know but one I always wanted to have in an army as I never really fielded models with hammers, claws or storm shields before. The only real kit-bashing I have done here was the obvious adding of plastic veteran parts to the once unarmed metal models and the repositioning of one of the lighting claw arms to give the front veteran in the picture above a more open stance. Again once I start painting this squad better pictures will be posted then.

Until then my fellow Hobbyists, Good Morning, Good Afternoon and Goodnight.

Time for a new update!

At this time I have been busy with home life so painting my Helion Legion has been hindered somewhat but I aim to continue to make progress to reach my goal of 1 company.

Today I have managed to finish painting my Predator Annihilator in all it's tri-las cannon glory I was really worried about making a mess with the battle damage and weathering as I know too much weather ruins a lot of tanks but I think it turned out well in the end. As for the decals unfortunately I cannot print white/light grey transfers yet so I had to make due with painting my own. Thankfully I do have a very steady hand from my other hobby of drawing and in the end i think it turned out pretty well.

med_gallery_80929_9904_111874.jpg

med_gallery_80929_9904_138726.jpgmed_gallery_80929_9904_99174.jpg

med_gallery_80929_9904_51221.jpg

Sorry about the shadowy images as I have also been busy trying out new ways to photograph+photo-edit my miniatures for better viewing. So far I have not got there just yet. I think another lamp and better back drops are in order.....but I can at least show you the best images from my series of tests. Let me know what you think. Also below you will finally see my completed Company Champion which now completes my command squad from my last post.

Since my last post I did buy the Ultramarine upgrade kit and man does it help the chapter's overall look. The parts i used for the kitbash were:

- The UM upgrade kit's duellist's helmet and power sword (GW call it a "Gladius" but honestly it is far too long to be one)

- SM Captain Power Sword arm with the hand and sword clipped off for the new blade.

- A Sternguard backpack

- New tactical squad Sergeant shoulder pad which is obstructed by the shield but it's the one with the iron halo on it, painted red of course.

- MKVIII breastplate + MKVI legs + holstered Pistol from the old tactical squad box

- Terminator Chaplain's Iron Halo

- Bretonnian Man at Arms shield + Dwarf Quarreller /Thunderer shield

- Assorted purity seals and tabard from the multi-part SM commander kit.

med_gallery_80929_9904_330150.pngmed_gallery_80929_9904_1056462.pngmed_gallery_80929_9904_24183.png

With the tank and command squad out of the way my next PiP SHOULD at finally long last be the Vanguard Veteran squad. Now that I have built up my 10 man squad they are set for priming and painting, I just wish the weather would improve so it stopped raining. Oh well Australian Winters (Its not always scorching hot down here you know?).

'Til next time folks.

Great WIP thus far, I really like the color choices and chapter icons!  I feel your pain on priming time being interrupted by weather, though on my end it's typically due to cold weather rather than wet.  I recommend picking up some Vallejo bottled primer for this; you can use it indoors (it has a pleasant menthol scent) and brush it on for when the weather doesn't cooperate, or even run it through an airbrush if you have one available.  It's cheaper than canned primer, too!

Hello everyone, Its been a while has it not? I have now moved house, settled in and now I'm ready to carry on with this WIP, Ever since I have moved house I no longer have my hobby shed to work in, Instead am working in a bedroom with a little less sunlight, I am working on the lighting problem but so far I have not gotten around to implementing a proper solution.

While a fair bit has been going on over the last few months I have not been idle this whole time. Over the last few months I have begun the long and painful process of downsizing/cannibalizing my other space marine armies to help build up my Helion Legion as this chapter will be my main Warhammer 40k army at the end of it all. The reason for this is in response to the current state of my hobby. As it is here in Australia the price of plastic models lately is getting too much for me to keep buying from GW directly. Outside of eBAY and flea market sales Australia has little way to support my hobby needs as things just cost far too much for what they actually are. The recent release of models to go with the Damocles Crusade supplement was pretty much what broke the camel's back.

For example the re-released plastic assassins from the "Execution Force" board game cost us AU$53 each. To compare to the board game it originally came from which costs AU$210 you essentially get the following (with their cost if bought on their own):

- All four Assassins, costing a total of $212 all together

- One Terminator Chaos Lord, $37

- One box of three push-fit Chaos marines, $14

- Three boxes of 5 cultists, $42 (Each box is $14)

As you can see while I still say the $210 price tag is still too damn high (no I'm not doing the meme) it is a far better bargain than ever buying the 4 Assassins individually. Hell I'm just mad over the fact that the BA Jump pack Chaplain costs $56 when the finecast version is $28 (The same goes for the BA Terminator Captain.)

ANYWAY, now that I got that out of my system, time to talk about what I came here for, my WIP.

Over the last couple of weeks I had decided that I would rebase my power armoured members of the Helion Legion with 32mm bases. Mainly because the newer kits do not fit too well on the 25mm bases as their feet often tend to stick out over the edges of them. Plus i fear that this 32mm basing of power armour marines is going to stay for a while so might as well convert for this one arm to hopefully future proof them.

Wanting to keep the urban/industrial theme to my army I decided to invest in Secret Weapon Miniatures again and bought 2 sets of 10 urban rubble bases to rebase my tactical marines and sternguard marines with. To keep the 40k vibe to them I place some pieces from the Warhammer basing kit to a few of the bases to avoid having marines with similar bases.

Pretty much the day after I bought them I the proceeded to prepare, prime, paint and use my new bases to satisfactory results. To paint them I just followed the video tutorial "Realm of Battle: Sector Imperialis - How to paint your board." from the Warhammer TV channel on Youtube ( Obligatory link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrueWHvf7QM ). As for the old bases, luckily none of them were damaged when I removed the marines from their bases which is good for I intend to make casts of them to use in future basing projects.

It was after this I began the process of the previously mentioned cannibalizing of armies. So far I managed to salvage a Landspeeder Typhoon from my Black Templars army and a 5 man squad of jump-pack assault marines from my Blood Angels. I will be painting those guys up in the Helion colours after I finish the Vanguard Veterans which I have finally started painting. As with the tactical squad I have also re-based my Vanguards with 32mm bases to better balance them plus I think these guys needed a more scenic bases than the ones they were provided before.

Stay tuned for next time when I show off my PiP of the Vanguard Veterans and get this unit done at long last. I have completely forgotten when I even started these guys *looks at first post with squad depicted* 6 months ago, Wow still not as bad as my Tyranid army that has been sitting there for almost a decade.

Until next time folks.

So a quick follow up from my earlier post, I have managed to paint 2 more of my Vanguard veterans with the basic 3 colours up and also did some work on the once Black Templar Typhoon. Obviously there is still a lot more work to be done on them but for now I'll leave you all with this.
