Outflanking Iron Hands 1500 (Need tips against artillery)

Trying to build up a highly mobile army. Recently artillery has been my bane (stupid Iron Warriors...) so I'm trying out the IH rite of war. The plan would be to start the Proteus on the board (Techamarine and Praetor on board) behind cover and keep everything else in reserve to either outflank or just come from my board edge. This way I don't get alpha struck by 5 large blasts on the first freaking turn... Any other tips on dealing with artillery would be appreciated.

Praetor: Cataphractii Armor, chainfist, Rite of War: Head of the Gorgon= 150

Legion Tactical Squad: combi melta sarge, Rhino: combi melta= 210

Legion Tactical Squad: combi melta sarge, Rhino: combi melta= 210

Techmarine Convenant: 1 Techmarine, Landraider Proteus: explorator augury web= 300

Legion Javelin Attack Speeders: 2 speeders= 150

Legion Predator: Executioner cannon, pintle mounted combi melta, machine spirit= 150

Legion Predator: Executioner cannon, pintle mounted combi melta, machine spirit= 150

Legion Sicaran: Lascannon sponsons= 180

Btw, the reason I'm taking machine spirit on the Predators is so that I can move 12 and fire the main cannon. I just like the idea of fast tanks and that's the best way to simulate it. The pintle mounted combi melta is mainly there so that a weapon destroyed result doesn't gurantee the main cannon's destruction. It just so happens to synergise well with being able to outflank and target enemy vehicles with melta. I gave the tacticals and their rhinos meltas to syngerise better with the predators.

So I've been looking over the list recently, and I realized I don't have adequate anti air. I'm think of squadroning the preds and swapping out the speeders for two whirlwind hyperios as they are both equal in points. I know I can get more bang for my buck with tarantula platforms, but I want to maintain the theme of a highly mobile force. Besides what the whirlwinds lack in firepower per point compared to tarantulas, they make up for in flexibility and ease of use.

Opinions?

A rather cost effective alternative to Anti-tank anti-air would be a TLLC Contemptor-Mortis...maybe even two if you could fit them in. They're also front armor AV13 and rather mobile though they don't have fleet like their standard counterpart.

BTW, do you know if the Iron Warrior is/can take Armored Ceramite on his shiny vehicles? If he can/does, then those meltas are going to be rather useless...

To that end, have you though of taking a 20man tac blob and stuffing them into a Spartan? REAAAALLLYY hefty points wise, but 4 TLLC shots and a night indestructible Land raider with 20 angry marines inside is something everyone should be afraid of barring titans and primarchs and other LoWs.

Also, look into the Sicarian Venator, might provide you with more dedicated anti-armor that your looking for, though the standard Sicarian could provide anti-air if needed (ignoring jink saved \o/ )

Nobody is running armored ceramite yet (thankfully) mainly due to the small point level. In fact, armor is not that big of a deal. Aside from a basilisk, vindicator and the occasional medusa, there aren't many vehicles, and they are all easy to get rid of once I get close enough. Like I said, the combi meltas started out as insurance for my executioner cannons, then I figured I might as well synergize with my rhino squads.

As for the Mortis contemptor, his problem is that he will be shelled like no other turn one, with no benefit from av13 as barrage hits side armor. Secondly, I don't see him keeping up with the rest of the force. Thirdly, he doesn't fit the theme very well. In the end I might test him out, but it will probably mean losing one of the tanks :(

Aye, he isnt on tracks, but he does fit Iron Hands more than well and is technically a 1 man astartes vehicle :P

But yeah, losing one of the other tanks might just ruin the theme just enough...

A Whirlwind with Hyperios instead of Vengeance/Castellan could provide more anti-air.

And a Vindicator with Laser Destroyer Array will have increased range to hit enemy armour.

Yes, when I mentioned taking whirlwind I meant the hyperios, sorry if I wasn't clear.

The main problem with artillery I'm having is that they hide at extreme range behind cover. In 40k, I'd send a couple of pods their way and be done with them, but I can't to that in 30k. If I take artillery of my own, then it turns into a game of who gets first turn. This is why I have resorted to outflanking. Can't shoot what isn't there!

Yes, outflanking does seem to be the best alternative option.

Have you considered attack bikes with multi meltas or autocannons for the outflank duty?

I assume your enemy is using 1 Legion Artillery Tank Squadron, but what tanks is he using in the squadron?
