Invisibility and Auto-hit attacks

Recommended Posts

Invisibility forces units to Snap-shoot when the invisible unit is targeted by a shooting attack.  (It also has effects in combat, which aren't relevant to this discussion.)

1 - Vector Strike is not a Shooting Attack, it is unaffected by invisibility and works as normal.

2 - A Nova automatically targets and hits all enemy units within range.  It is a shooting attack that does not roll to hit.  The snap shot rules state that such an attack cannot be fired as a snap-shot.  However, a Nova over-rides the "Hard to Hit" rule and being in Locked in Combat, which would usually result in the Psyker either having to fire snap-shots or simple being unable to target the unit.  The logical assumption is that the Nova will hit an Invisible unit and affect them as it would any other enemy unit.

"Hard To Hit" has nothing to do with Invisibility, and MAY affect a Nova's ability to hit the model depending on if it is a Flying Monstrous Creature or Vehicle (Flyer). FMCs will be hit, while the Flyer cannot be.

But otherwise, you are correct, as Invisibility has no affect on auto-hit attacks that do not target the unit.

Novas both automatically target and hit all units within range.  Key words here are 'automatically target'.  So key, in fact, GW printed them in bold.  Invisibility limits units to only firing Snap Shots at the blessed unit.  Snap Shots rule prevent any attack that does not use the BS of the firer from being fired.  Ergo, not only does Invisibilty protect the blessed unit, it prevents an enemy unit from casting a Nova power if the blessed unit would be in range.

However, the rules state: "A nova power automatically targets and hits all enemy units (including Flyers and Flying Monstrous Creatures) within the psychic power’s maximum range, regardless of line of sight, being locked in combat, intervening models/terrain and so on."

Saying they hit Flyers and FMCs and adding the "and so on" at the end would seem to indicate that an Invisible unit, since it causes Snap Shots just like a Zooming Fyler or Swooping Monstrous Creature, would still be hit.

RAI I agree, though I think RAI would actually disallow vector striking though RAW allows it (how the heck would you vector strike something you can't even see?).   I think it just comes down to a HIWPI situation you have to agree on with your local group.
