It was my first ever painted vehicle. I can't imagine how many times I tried to get that sort of bone texture on my troops. However I can quite easily recall the number of times it worked: 0. The basing is well done, too. That's always an easy part to overlook. What are you using to make those surfaces? My one sticking point is the limited palette. A limited palette is a very good thing, and keeps the process smooth, while the models don't end up looking very cluttered. But with exception to the one green cloth, everything is either bone or red. A dash of metallic somewhere could be good, and would be relatively neutral so as to not send the color wheel spinning out of control (ugh, lousy metaphor). It could be especially useful somewhere on their backs, because the Bolters already kind of do that up front. Also, blank purity seals. I appreciate your acceptance For my basing I usualy use some pieces of plasticards, sand, small rocks and bits from old SM pod. I paint them with several greys and apply two or three pigments. - nothing special but it's nice to read that somebody finds them intresting. I've started to paint this army when I got back to hobby in 2009 after reading that topic http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149164-my-doublewing-dw-squad-finished/ and I wanted to stick to the paint scheme I really liked then. Now I also think that I've missed something in that color scheme on those SMs. I will try to something with that when I be finishing another tactical squad. Thank you for your observations. Not to mention the discontinuation of Flesh Wash and Gryph Sepia (a true loss, that one, right up there with Badab Black). Can't argue with the results much, though. Is yours identical, or are you using replacement tricks and new techniques? You obviously got yourself into the weathering powders, after all. That method is very slow and boring if someone is planning to paint more miniatures but i like the warm color of finished miniatures and I couldn't achive similar effect using white primer. Rhino is painted differently - I used airbrush and color modulation technique as shown here https://app.box.com/s/q27ghfoaxnxi3p2n3m1g . I don't quite understand the logic behind the panel lighting, and I think it looks rather weird really, even if it is much easier to do. Zenithal is, in my opinion, best left to infantry models. Even though the colors are a tad different, the Rhino and the Marines still look proper beside one another. There's just a touch more yellow tint on the Rhino. That could tie them to the base better and tie the army in very nicely. When I was initialy painting those models I;ve never thought that they will become a single army cause I wasn't a WH40K gamer. I've been painting them separately only for fun looking for proper color scheme. Now i think that with some more work I can make them a cohesive group and I will try to keep new models similar to those already presented. However I think I overdo the weathering of the Rhino:DI manage to finish some more SMs so the entire Tactical Squad is ready. Enjoy the photos. The "2 colors" scheme is really beautiful and efficient, and I like the concept of using an existing concept and pushing it at the border of a DiY chapter. That effect isn't present anywhere else, and there's not much reason that the only place it would show up is beneath a skull decoration on a backpack. :lol: Aside from that, it seems that things are proceeding swimmingly. Personally, I don't think the marines need to be as weathered as the vehicle- makes sense to me that the transport would be more weathered than the troops inside it... I' m totally not sure either but I suck in painting flat surfaces and I needed to invent something. Could you take some close up pictures of the rhino? I will take some photos when I finally arrive at my place. Staty tuned. Love the bases! Any chance if a quick tutorial? I think that these are nothing special. As usual you take some sand, small rocks, several old bits and glue them together to the base. Then paint it in dark brown and drybrush several layers of greys.; final drybrush shoul be white or ivory. Rust metal is painted with mix od browns and reds.
