Crimson Slaughter Sorcerer (final)

So I just wanted to tweak this sorc a bit and get some opinions because I think this is the -final- red I would use on the army as a whole. It's a bit of a process but then again as a new fig to the army, he's probably going to take the longest to nail down.

I do like this red though. I know the fig is not anyone's favorite, but I think I might go with this look if I can replicate it.

Do you guys think I should redo the tabard?

The Crimson Slaughter are easily my favorite non Legion from Chaos (everything else was there from the beginning). As IP said to me though I could see them working as allies quite nicely.

I find the Crimson Slaughter codex is beautiful. Well written and I find the gallery section very eye catching. The wargear / artifacts are just unique enough to make them feel a little bit different on the battlefield.

Quite honestly I couldn't be bothered reading their background. It is miles of improvement when they wrote their introduction before sixth, which sounded like poorly written teen fiction. Still, while they're a departure from the standard Chaos warband, I hardly care for them.

Still better than Raukaan though.

Wouldn't change the tabard at all. Only bit really is the bone on the top of the skull. Looks like the bone is only on the front. Other than that...bring on the next thing ;)

This is awesome. Haven't seen this mini done in red before (and I'm doing mine in black legion colours like most people...) It suits him, and it's great to see more Crimson Slaughter as well - I've developed a real fondness for them, an you've done a very good job capturing their look here imo. Without the gold detailing and trim, the parchment on the tabard would make him look like a Word Bearer, but you've distinguished him sufficientlu I think. Also, I love the way you've done the sword.

What's your process on the red armour?

I still think you should try out a ally force with both BL & CS.  Just from seen both models you've posted last while, it would give you the best of both worlds army wise & in the future mean you can have them as single armies.

Just as said both have been cool.  They would not look out of place, still coherency? & a pretty strong force look wise.

Wow guys. You blew me away with the compliments. Sincerely.

I was about to put this project away.....

I spent probably about 20ish hours on Draznicht as my first of the Crimson Slaughter chosen. I continued to read the fiction for fuel (finding it wherever I can... as I'm running out.) I was just fleshing out reds and golds with my process and just thought... 'ugh' and kind of put it aside.

Those chosen are incredibly attractive to me and I personally see fielding Draznicht and friends purely for their ornate craziness, but I lost my mojo in the labour of it all and thought I was done..... then I see this. lol

Actually with Balestar in most games, I don't actually use it. But I guess he could always have a little buddy....  I mean Huron is crazy and has a little buddy... this guy is always hearing stuff in his head so I could do a familiar and call it 'Figment'.

Like I said above, but it warrants repeating, you guys have totally lit a flame under my chaotic buttocks.

Seriously. I was really, really having trouble getting motivated, and I finally redid that Sorc to my liking, and after a while I have judging my own stuff, and just like any other 'art' you really are your own worst critic.

But the praise that model as received thanks to you guys, has completely revitalized me.

The only hesitation is it feels like the Crimson Slaughter, as a chapter, is dead? Or is it? I dunno. I've been catching up on all the fiction and it started out so good, and it's really faded. I understand Krannon is actually retconned to be still alive???? I confirmed this by finishing Dark Vengeance. (now listening to Ascension of Balthasar and reading Crimson Sabres)

Anyway, back to the point, you guys have really motivated me. Since I was shocked to see the likes on the fig, I've since decided to tackle Draznicht. He's turning out really good.... I'm happy at least.

As far as the reds, when I get home I'll make sure I get the recipe right before posting it.

Thanks.

No need to worry about the Chapter dying out. There's a small piece of flavor text in the Codex Supplement that shows Draznicht watching the latest influx of cultists for suitable aspirants. Krannon also struck a deal with Fabius, which while not a successful or reliable as he would have hoped gave them the infrastructure to raise new aspirants. Unfortunately they also seem to go mad after a while.

There are also two factions. One is attempting to find redemption in the bones of the Crimson Sabres old homeworld while the other, much larger faction follow Krannon.

Can't wait to see how Draznicht is coming along!

Actually, there's a third. Remember the blurb about one of the ships that broke off and went its own way.

And the Crimson Slaughter is surprisingly well-organized. While in realspace, they only turned Traitor a decade ago or so, the Chapter has spent about one thousand years in the Eye just rebuilding itself. By the time the 13th rolls around, it is almost to launch multiple warbands from the space hulk it uses as a home base, with the most notable being led by Krannon. A testament to the versatility and power a well-organized warband can bring to the found and it puts into perspective what the Black Legion and organizations like the Dark Council of Sicarus are able to muster when they have been around even longer and have done more. Not to mention the number differentials.

Thanks guys, this stuff definitely inspired me to start a blog thread as I go forward.

This is an awesome post. I'm going to add it to my thread as it expands and answers a lot of my 'future of the chapter' concerns.
